    New 60+ Thread

Hi there everyone. I've been so slack at writing. Maybe because I'm losing so slow and really don't care. I feel good and never gain. I'm in Fanwood, New Jersey with my daughter for awhil, maybe all winter. Her MIL lived with them and babysat and she broke her hip, so need to recover. It's good getting to spend time with my eastern grandchildren!

    Is God real?

Patty Green, God bless you for your willingness to share your knowledge with others. Today was the first time I read your posts because I'm not here very often. I don't believe anyone who has not had the experience of being born again in Christ can understand the change in out hearts that takes place. It's hopeless to try to explain if their hearts are hardened for Jesus. We are so lucky to have recieved the gift of Grace and faith. I think we should pray for everyone that hasn't recieved what we have been so blessed with.
  3. Marge, I love your user name! I'm 68 and have been banded for about 18 mos. Have only lost about 53# but to tell the truth, I haven't really tried. It just slowly comes off. If I could stay away from ice cream it would be faster. I was just reminded last night that this isn't a race. I think I got discouraged from using this site because my loss seemed so slow and I didn't really care so I was feeling guilty. But hey, it isn't a race and I'm feeling so much better and if I'm happy with my loss why should I feel guilty! So I;m going to check in more often and continue with my slow loss. Also one other benefit this way...I don't outgrow my clothes so fast:) Good luck on your journey.

    New 60+ Thread

Hi Phyll, I had both of mine done at the same time because they were equally bad and equally painful. If you're a tough old bird like me, do it that way. They have you up and walking the next day either way. A friend of mine did that about 4 mos earlier and he did fine so I asked my Dr if he would do them both and he agreed, I was his first double and now he does a lot of them.

    New 60+ Thread

Hi there you losers! Remember me? It's been a long time. I just quit a job that left me no time for anything except work and sleep. It was home nursing. I would drive about 200 miles per day and see 4-6 patients. That was the good part of the job. The bad part was the stacks and stacks of paper work that I just couldn't keep up with. That is the bad part of nursing these days. Now I'm going to go back to private duty and no more than 3 days a week. So now I should have time to open my computer again. As far as the weight loss.....I had been drinking slim fast on the road and pigging out at night and as you all know it's pretty hard to pig out on healthy meat and veggies. I consumed lots of ice cream and candy. In spite of that, once I got enough fills, which took a whole year, I have been slowly losing and feel a lot better. It's so maddening how easy cookies and crackers and ice cream and candy just slide down while good vegtables and meat healthy foods get stuck so easy unless you have lots of time to eat. Anyway I love my band. I don't always use it correctly but I love it.

    Newbie to the Sixties Group

Hi Leelee, My puppie is half bischon and half maltese. She is 18 mos old. weighs 8 pounds and is a sweetheart but was hard to potty train and still has accidents. I saw a bischon boy puppy a few weeks ago and wanted to scoop him up and take him home. He was so cute! Got any pictures?

    Madison area bandsters

Hi Harvest. I'm from Baraboo and had surgery at UW hosp. They do have a support group but I don't like it. Too big! Where do you live?
  9. Hi Wisconsonites. I live in Baraboo. We did survive the floods but my son from Spring Green has probably lost his house. It's still too flooded for FEMA to inspect. A lot of local roads are still being repaired. How about the rest of you?

    New 60+ Thread

I'm alive and well but so busy. I went from working 1 day a week to 2 days. Have physical therapy 2 times a week and spending a lot of time at the camp grounds. We now have a permanent site at our favorite campgrounds and have been doing some landscaping there. One of my sons lost his home in the recent floods so have been helping them sort, throw out and wash up what they salvaged. It's so sad. Did any of you see the houses fall into the lake and wash into the river in Lake Deltan? That's about 4 miles from us. Still several roads in the area washed out. I got on a sugar frenzy and can't seeem o get off the carbs. I gained 2 pounds over the weekend. Blame it on s'mores! I just can't seem to get motivated again. I guess I need to come here more often! Hope you are all doing well and getting skinny!

    New 60+ Thread

Hi all, I'm still around but haven't been able to sit long enough to post. I've been having some very dreadful back pain. Almost back to normal now. I'm starting PT next week. I hope you are all well and enjoying your summer.

    Any happy transcriptionists?

I'm not but my daughter is. She loves it. She works 20 hours a week. I believe the co. is Ampheion or something like that. She works at home. They supplied all equipment. Everything is done on line.
  13. Let him drive you. If you are taking pain meds you shouldn't drive.

    New 60+ Thread

Welcome John, There is so much real good info on this site about how the band works. I hope you read it all. Fills are tiny amounts of fluid that is inserted through the port into the band to make it tighter. The tighter it is, the more restriction you will have. There's a very fine line between too tight and too loose, so for most people they have to have many fills and some removals to get it just right. They call that their "sweet spot". I haven't gotten to mine yet! Just keep reading through these posts and you will learn all there is to know and more.

    Calling All NURSES!!

Hi, I have been a nurse for more years than I can count. Lets see, since 1963 I guess. I started in Med surg, worked in ER for a few years, then psych for about 10 yrs, did a couple years of per dieum for an agency and then went to independent home nursing which I am doing now. I would love to retire but the case I'm on now (for the past 11 years) needs an RN case manager once day a week so that's me. I like it but my patient has gotten too big for me to handle with my bad back. The legal nurse consulting sounds interesting. I would love to do something from home. I was an EMT untill I recieved my first knee injury a couple years ago. I'm a mom of 6, grandma of 13 and great grandma of 1 cute little baby girl. I got banded last Oct and still don't have decent restriction. I think there are about 100 nurses on this site! It would be nice to have our own thread forum.

Hey, Wildercrews, Which of of us gir;ls are you talking to?
  22. Well if she wants it, just be as supportive as you can. Don't even hint at pushing. Tell her you love her just as she is and will support anything she wants to do. Then drop it. There is nothing worse for the obese thAN being reminded that they aren't ok the way they are. I would be running for comfort if I thought my loved ones didn't love me fat or thin. Would love to have her post.

    Have a question!

I'm embarassed to admit that I don't know what kind of band I have. All I know is that it's 10mm long and holds 4cc.

    Have a question!

Here is his answer. In a former post he had said something about the danger of systemic effects. That's why I asked about that. Subject by: munch2much Posted on: 4/10/2008 10:53:51 AM Would you please exp;ain just what e "systemic effects" are from NSAIDs? There seems to be a lot of disagreement between Dr.s about taking them with a band. I was under the impression that they would sit in the band and cause tissue damage but I see you said that wasn't the case in a former post. My quality of life is much better when I can take them. It's very hard to exercise when in pain and hard to sleep the night after. If they don't damage the pouch I would like to take them again. Not on a reg basis but prn. RepliesReply by: DrGarren_Moderator Posted on: 4/10/2008 8:09:38 PM NSAIDs can diminish the normal protective lining of the stomach. If the question is, "Will I have trouble if I take ibuprofen for the occasional headache?" The answer is PROBABLY not. Taking the NSAIDS on a regular basis, in my opinion, puts one at risk of ulcer and complications therein

    Have a question!

There seems to be a lot of dissagreement about NSAIDs . My Dr said no but when I tried to pin him down for a good reason why not, he got wishy washy about it. Actually, I'll try to find his answer on his board and post it for you.
