There is something called orthostatic hypotension. Your BP drops suddenly when you stand . If you have somone around that can check it sitting and standing have it checked. Meanwhile drink a lot more fluid. If you are on BP meds you probably need an adjustment. Also sit for awhile when you go from lying down to standing. Be sure you have something sturdy to hold onto when you get up. Good luck

I also want to wish all my bandster friends a Very Merry Blessed Christmas and a slim New Year!

Would you do it again or choose another option?
sfeiner replied to BPM's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was banded 10/28, had a fill a couple weeks ago and have no restriction. I've still not regained anything which I'm happy about because I always gained at Christmas time. I would do again in a heartbeat because I know it will work for me. I'll see that it does. -
Well, none of the rest of us died.:rose: Seriously, everyone has flashes of "what if" before surgery. Just don't dwell on it. Millions of people have done it and are fine. You'll be fine too. Sharon

In july of 2005 I was vacationing at a remote northern wi Lake with some of my grown kids and my sister and some of her grown kids. My sister weighs over 450. We shared a cabin and one morning she just stopped breathing as we sat at the table talking. I felt for a pulse and there was none. I yelled to the other cabins and said call 911,,,cone and help me! We had a terrible time getting her on the floor but we did and started cpr ( I was the only that knew it but they learned fast) It took 20 min for the first responders to come and they had a defibulater and got her heart started. We had to ventilate her for another 29 mun before an ambulance could get there. It took about 8 guys to get her on the gurney and her fat was just hanging over the sides. In spite of my fear for her, I was shocked. She went to one hosp and then was med flighted to a larger one. During all this she arrested 5 more times but did survive it. After her discharge, I talked to her about WLS and she said "I will if you do" (She sees us as about the same size even though she weighs a couple hundred pounds more ) I said I would and started researching. I had never heard of LB at that point but when I researched it I knew that was for me. I drove her too all the meetings and appointments and did the insurance research etc and then when she was all approved she backed out. She lives to eat. if she can't eat she would just as soon die. I wanted the surgery from the minute I heard of it. I don't ever want to have 8 men have trouble loading me on a gurney! I don't want my fat draping over the sides! I know witho9ut a doubt that that's where I would get at the rate I was going. Every diet I ever went on netted me a gain of 2x what I lost. I'm also a nurse and have my own memories of trying to turn, clean up and do procedures on the really huge patients...NOT good memories. I don't want to be some other nurses nightmare patient!

You hit the nail on the head. Your muscles turn into mush when you lay around. It's not unusual to get sweaty and maybe nauesated too. Another thing to watch for with those symptoms is low blood sugar...but I bet it's just the post surgery weakness.......which will go away as you move more.

Ahhh, thanks. Happy birthday and Merry Christmas to you!

I totally understand where those of you who are not believers are coming from. I have found it impossible to explain faith to non-believers. It's like trying to explain "blue" to a blind person/ Even people of faith are amazed that they were chosen to believe. It's more of something just happening to you than something you learn. It's an overwhelming feeling of love, peace and humility that just happens. When it happened to me I just kept crying with such a feeling of being unworthy to recieve this wonderful gift. Christians just want to share it because it's such a great thing to have and it's hard to immagine someone not wanting it. By the way, I was 52 when the miracle happened to me and my life has changed completely. I'm not the same person now. My faith is unshakable. My God loves me and is always there for me.

Kagoscuba, I believe all that "crap" too. I wouldn't vote for anyone just because of their religious beliefs but i believe I would vote against an atheist.

WOW! It pays to never give up! I'm so happy for you.

I can't even feel mine. I didn't know where it was until Dr showed me. He had no problem finding it to do the fill.

Childre, children...stop your bickering or Santa will fly right over your house without stopping! -
Elena and Travel girl, Your letters broke my heart. I could just feel your pain. I pray that both of you will be healed someday. Sharon

I've had that problem since I started on the pre surg diet. I believe it's the artificial sweetners in the shakes, crystal light, sf jello etc. I would advise trying not to have ant sweetners for a couple days and see what happens.

Port Site Infection & Surery to Remove Port!!
sfeiner replied to Summer87's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Oh, I feel so bad for you. Do you still have the band? I don't understand how they could take one without the other. If you get a new port, will they attach it to the band you have? (if you have it) Told you I'm confused! Anyway, I'm sorry you had to go through all that. -
Well you know you lost. Just assume she made a mistake. Even us nurses make a few now and then:cry. You are the one who knows how your clothes fit and how you feel. Put the whole conversation out of your mind and start fresh tomorrow. You are doing great. Sharon

Hi and welcome, there is a post by Wendal called "How the band works " that I think will answer most of your questions. I would assume that when people get to goal they wouldn't have to watch what they eat as carefully maintaining..maybe ice cream instead of ff yogurt once in awhile. Food choices are as important as amounts. Or they could have an unfill. I have never read of too much weight lost being a problem.

Well maybe it's a "What NOT to Do" book.<p>Well It's a "What NOT to Do" book. <img src="http://www.LapBandTalk.com/images/smilies/confused.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Confused" smilieid="11" class="inlineimg" /></p>

The scales are going UP again!! *cries*

I don't think you are getting enough calories. You need at least 60gms protien. Drink (sip) water all the time. Are you getting in 2 qts? I think you should add in 2 cans of a high protien low carb shake (like slimfast low carb) per day. -
How do you deal with OTHER people's expectations ??
sfeiner replied to Mrs SmartyPants's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
How about saying "I'm only going to weigh myself once a month". "This is susposed to be the time for healing, not losing. I'll let you know when I can start losing".
