A place for bandsters in their 60's
sfeiner replied to Oregondaisy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks Denise -
Do you think there is discrimination against obese people?
sfeiner replied to milton5a's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
If I have been I'm too preoccupied to notice. Being a nurse I've never applied for a job that I didn't get. Nurses are in such short supply around they have to hire anyone with a license! I'm 67 and trying to retire and I still get several flyers or letters each week with job offers. Even fron the Army! Now as far as fat clothes. They are ugly! Who would wear bright pink stretch pants? And that's so true, they think fat people automatically get taller too. I'm 5'3" and if I don't get petites the crotch hangs down between my knees. Or I can pull the waist up to my boobs. LOL -
I think I was pretty tender for about 6 weeks. My incisions are all above my waist...midriff section actually. My bras were more of a problem, And yes I was bloated or swollen too. It gets better. It might help to massage those iincisions gently with some nice lotion (if there are no open areas)

2 weeks without Protein
sfeiner replied to CynthiaMcC's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you sure you can't have protien? I think you should re-check with your Dr. If you do have to stay on clear liq, you should diffinetly get some clear isopure. -
Well we had a balmy day of 40 today. Some of the snow melted but more on the way tomorrow. I'm going to get to Madison for my third fill tomorrow even if I have to go on a snow mobile!

4 days post-op and feel sick
sfeiner replied to illion's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh, that hydrocodone is bad. Quit taking it, get some nourishment into you and another days rest. Re-evaluate tomorrow. -
Of course you can eats carbs! Just not the bad ones. It's a pretty general rule to not eat anything white like flour, sugar, potatoes, rice, and pasta. (that of course includes anything with those things in the ingrediants. If you have the proper amt of fill and restriction and aren't hungry, that should be fairly easy. The whole point of the band is so we can be satisfied with less food. When you are restricted and eat your protien and then your veggie you probably won't want any more food, but if you do some good carbs (like fruit) will be fine

How many of you felt you might fail at first?
sfeiner replied to SueSue's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
SueSue, flour, sugar, white rice and potatoes are your poison. Don't eat anything that contains any of them. They all contribuite to your cravings. Hang in there. -
To band, or not to band
sfeiner replied to Tar Heel Don's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
it's all different Depending on where you go, but it does seem like they all require a seminar first so I would find one of those first. You will get your questions answered there. As far as doing it on your own without the band.....wouldn't you have done that already if you could? -
Mine said I could eat.
-
I've tried to find the answer so please be patient with me if it's in here somewhere and I missed it. I'm wondering just where food gets stuck. As I understand it, when we have restriction the food will stay in the upper small pouch longer. When we chew well enough and eat slowly we don't get stuck. So does that mean the food is passing easily into the lower part of the stomach and not getting stuck in the passage way? It's not susposed to go into the lower part for awhile. So what happens when it's stuck and the person has a PB? I've had surgery, 1 fill and no restriction. I just got thinking about this and can't figure out the answer.

How nice of you to make a list. There are a bunch more on another thread so I hope we all get listeed. Our own club!

Are you dissappointed in your weight loss since banding?
sfeiner replied to wishin4's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm dissapointed on my lack of restriction so far. But I do have another fill tue so hopefully that will change things. -
:youcandothis:Wow, 74. I wonder what the oldest age is. Maybe she set a record. Well all I can say is GOOD FOR HER!

Medicare will pay but only at a place the had recieved the certification of being a "Center Of Excellence". If a hosp. says they don't accept medicare it is just because they don't have the certification yet.

Poll: Insurance pay or you?
sfeiner replied to Chuckles's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Medicare paid for 80% and supplemental ins paid the rest. The whole thing including all care and fill is $1200 at UW Hosp in Madison , Wi -
I think you should give your tummy a rest for awhile. Start on your clear liquid for a few daysand slowly intrduce protien drinks, baby food, apple sause etc. I would try this first. You could have same major irratation going that doesn't show up on xray. You could also take maalox to reduce irritation. Good luck.

Post-op: So depressed... so lost
sfeiner replied to adorkbl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
L.A. You do need to get back on that antidepressant asap. Do you have a family Dr or someone you know well. See him/her and get a new prescription. I was a psychiatric nurse for many years and have seen the havoc depression can cause in people, relationships and families. If you need it, there is no reason you can't take it with the band. I bet 75% of overweight people are also depressed. Same with other addictions. People try to self medicate with food, alcohol, drugs etc. Please take care of yourself. -
There are a bunch of places on the web to track calories. A lot of people use "fitday". I use "daily plate". I can't think of other names right now but if you google calorie counteror calorie some should come up (if you are interested in keeping track.) I got some pork chop stuck at lunch and now I can't eat anything for awhile. Serves me right.

With just the little bit of weight I have lost, I'm MUCH less short of breath. I have asthma too but I think it's the extra weight now that causes the breathing problems, not the asthma. I still get SOB but it'smuch better than it was and I anticipate it will continue to improve. Does he have internet access? Hook him up with us if he does.

Nosy family members + my dating life = mortification
sfeiner replied to secretstolen's topic in Singles Forum
I'm so happy for you. I wish you both the best. -
Good morning sixties. It's still soooo cold here. Well below zero. Getting tired of staying in the house. Can't get the dogs to go out.I might show up on your doorstep any day now Phyll. Thanks for the offer. I don't eat much :rolleyes2:but I do take up quite a bit of space.

Good morning Kathy, I pretty well blew it last eve. We ordered delivery pizzza and I had 2 big pieces and 3 cinnamon sticks. I'm afraid to go to "the daily plate" and add it up. I just started to keep track and it does make me think before things go in my mouth. Sometimes they get in there anyway.
