Kbinaz, We had our surgery about the same time and have lost about the same amt of weight. I haven't seen the scale move for 2 weeks. I'm trying not to get discouraged.

She was in the wrong...absolutely. If only moms with autistic kids used it it wouldn;t get much use. I think she has some mental problems herself,

I got a partial on the top that replaces some back teeth. I got it while I was on mushies and at the time thought that I wouldn't have needed the LB if I had known how I would hate aeting with the partial. I did get used toit eventually but I wish I would have spent more and got the implants. I ddidn't because my dental insurance won't pay for implants and does pay for dentures and partials (half)

Anyone with a band and a Kidney transplant?
sfeiner replied to jills_adopting's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I don't have a kidney transplant but I do take a lot of meds. I just break them up and take one every 15 min or so. At night it's easier because I'm not restricted much at night. -
question about pain meds

Liquid roxicet in hosp. They sent me home with about a pint...which I never took. -
Well at least they aren't trying to sabatoge your efforts by giving you cookies and candy.

Hi Chicago, Welcome to our group. First off, I think your brother needs a fill. He shouldn't be able to eat so much. He isn't using his band like it's intended to be used. . The you do enough reading here you will learn that this is a slow process....slow and steady if the fills are kept up. The bypass is much faster and if you need to loose a lot fast, that might be your best option. I think a couple years down the road it all evens out but the lapband takes a lot of committment and work. Good luck with what ever you do. And talk to that brother of yours about getting a fill.

my story of frustration, restriction, and confusion
sfeiner replied to Jenne's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
There are some real good answers to this question. I will try to find one and copy it for you since I wondered about the same thing. OK I found it. Here goes: This is from Kat "This is my understanding---we are encouraged to chew our food to mush so that it can pass through the stoma slowly---when we fail to chew well enough, then we get things stuck. Other times you can chew, and it is just the nature of the food to ball up, as in breads or foods with a high gluten content---they dough back up as they break down---so can turn into a giant ball of dough, which is difficult to pass through. If we chew our small bites to a slurry texture, then it is heavy enough to move slowly, and allow our pouches to feel full---and yet it is able to move through---without becoming stuck. When you chew it properly, and drink too soon, it simply liquifies everything and allows it to move through to quickly to feel full. I don't know if you have ever used a cake decorating bag or not, but I kind of see it the same way. The frosting is soft, and easily moves out of the bag, but it must be squeezed, it does not just flow through if it is the right consitency. But when you squeeze it down to the tip, it goes through. When we put food into our stomachs--or the pouch, it automatically begins digesting---kneading and moving the food around to break it down for digestion---much like we would squeeze the bag of icing. Now if we toss something in the frosting, that does not easily fit through the tip---it stops up everything. They tapered shape does not allow it to roll back up out of the way, it is simply stuck, until it either breaks down, or is removed---or in the case of our stomachs, it is stuck until is either breaks down, or is PB'd. Sorry for the lack of technical explanation---this is just the best way I can visualize what I want to do with my band, and the food going into it. You are almost half way -- good job!!! Kat" -
I pretty much stayed the same after the first week. It's taken 3 fills to get a little restriction. In the morning I am really tight and it takes forever to get my meds down. By dinner time I think I could eat a whole pizza.

Newbie want to say hi and document my journey
sfeiner replied to Luu2008's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Welcome Luuu.I have found lots of health professionals who know nothing about Lapband. My dentist was very interested and asked millions of questions. My PCP had heard a little about it and knew it wasn't the same as lapband but not much about fills, diets etc. -
Good going Phyll. That's a grreat loss. We are almost up to 100" of snow now and I can't get out to come to Florida.

I think there are two different issues. You don't have to respect anyone who doesn't earn your respect. BUT you can still treat everyone with respect. As a nurse I have had all sorts of experience with filthy (and filthy mouths-minds) people and I certainly didn't respect them but I tried hard to treat them with respect.

I t isn't so much if the Dr will accept medicare as it is, does medicare approve of the Dr. The clinic has to be certified as a "Center of Excellence" in bariatric surgery for medicare to pay. They work hard to get the certification so if they tell you they don't accept medicare, they are just not admitting that they aren't good enough for medicare to pay. Please join us on the sixties thread.

Say "I'm doing just what my Dr wants me to" and smile sweetly. After about 100 times she should take the hint (maybe)

Scales (at home)...are any very accurate?
sfeiner replied to ebonie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I like mine. It's a Weight Watchers and I got it at Walgreens. -
Happy Bday Kygie, I'm sure the kids will love the cake and next year you will love your new body.

Happy Bday Wheetsin. I loved the idea of wrapping it up and giving it to him for his Bday. It's clear he wants it. Actually he sounds like a dear man. My ex celebrated all the birthdays in the family...in fact in the state of Wi, sitting in the local bar getting sloshed.
-
Had to wait 6 weeks for the 1st, then 4 weeks, then 4 weeks again. Now if I need another it will be 4 weeks. Our clinic wants to see us every 4 weeks regardless. I think that's an excellent idea.

In search of words of encouragement.... or just a little truth (whatever works).
sfeiner replied to 010308's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I guess what none of us realize when we get banded is that the surgery it's self isn't what makes us thin. There is nothing there untill after we get enough fills to give good restriction. For some, that's just 1. For others it's several. Just hang in there and be patient and follow the rulses and your day will come! HAPPY VALENTINES DAY! -
Wow, Tina You look great and so do they. How lucky for you to get to meet them.

help any thoughts would be appreciated

You don't say if you live close to the border and can drive to Mexico or if you have to fly. I would think it would be just as expensive to be flying back and forth as it would be to get a Dr closer to you. -
Yikes.....I better not tell you what I think!

I think if I could've done the raw diet I wouldn't have needed the band. It's such a good way to lose weight but who can stick to it?
