You are doing great!!!! Taking it slow and easy is a great way to produce permanent results. After my first fill of 2 cc, I could eat hamburgers still. No restriction at all. But just 1 little ole .5 cc...I was restricted to where more than 3 bites of anything would just come back up. Restriction is a fickle things. Enjoy the journey of weightloss!

HOME! Guys, I'm retired military and have moved over a dozen times in my adult life, thus over a dozen wards. Some were okay, while others were...well....I showed up... {I go for the Lord...not for people} Anyways, this past Sunday I went to a new ward, yeah, just moved again. It was like HOME....one I've never been to.... I felt so good there. The members were from all walks of live, very diverse. When the Relief Society roll and sign up sheets went around...a sigh of relief to know they have so many activites but only one, yes ONE- scrapbooking day a month! Finally! Members who think like me! Don't get me wrong...scrapbooking is a wonderful thing. But I don't own a glue gun and hopefully never will.

I totally messed up my liquid diet...
VegasGrace replied to ladyinred66's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hahaha, when you tell your doc...expect a lecture. But know this- doctors know people can't diet, or even stick to a special diet....thus the lapband...right? So, it will come as no surprise to him. But do what the others said...just get your digestive system cleared prior to surgery. I cheated on my pre-op. I think I had 3 days of liquids...but day 1 I cracked...big time. But day 2 and 3 were fine. -
Hang in there! Sometimes reaching/maintaining goal is just as tricky as the procedure to get banded. Keep us posted!

I totally messed up my liquid diet...
VegasGrace replied to ladyinred66's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No, you are fine. Just mention it the next time you see your doc. Don't eat anymore solids! We don't want you to check in for surgery and then your doc says to reschedule because you have solids in your digestive system. But many docs only prescribe a liquid diet for a day, even two and three days. So, it's not time to panic...just don't eat...drink! -
Tell me the reason you picked your brand of band
VegasGrace replied to Rivieramaya05's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Inamed....original. That's all I ever heard of, all I knew. Tried and true. It worked: -
Have i already screwed myself??
VegasGrace replied to Ebeth0013's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
She should eat if she's hungry. She's healing now and should not be dieting. If she's on mushies...she should eat mushies. If her doc has her on liquids..she should do the liquids. But she shouldn't be dieting when she's trying to heal. Sorry what I said was misunderstood....didn't say she should have a steak. -
If you are having doubts, then don't have the surgery! You should have been informed by now about the risks....and you must answer: If my doc said my band could slip....would I still have the surgery? If I ....your words......... PBing, sliming, vomiting, slippage, weight gain, slow process, have to be committed, severe incision pain, gas killing me, starving, hungry, port problems, taking forever to hit the sweet spont, nauseous, etc Do I still want the band? If you answer NO...then don't have the surgery. Risks are an unkown...may happen or may not happen. But if you absolutely cannot handle anything you said..then don't do it.

VegasGrace replied to Ebeth0013's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No. Hungry? Eat! Don't worry about weightloss...unless you want to diet. When you get restriction after 1 or 2 fills hopefully...that's when you will start loosing weight. Don't fight the band. Let it do what you paid for it to do. And stop dieting! -
That day isn't good for me but count me in for August!

Congrats from a June 2007 bandster!

Share you Pre-Op & Post-Op Lessons Learned?
VegasGrace replied to bas's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am not one for HYPE...but I did succumb to it a little. The bag I packed....way too much. All you need is sweats - leave the bra at home ladies!. Bring deo/toothbrush & paste. I didn't even do my hair... what for! And when I got home I was very thankful I prepared. Frozen meals and cash for pizza- when you are a single parent! Plenty of drinks, too. And then ensure you get your scripts filled BEFORE surgery so that you will have them after. Heating pad I used once Protein powders I trashed after a few weeks This procedure isn't that difficult {compared to others} -
Mine didn't have any restrictions on that. I lived off hot chocolate during pre and post op...the only thing I was satisfied with.

The band was made for people just like you! If we didn't sabotage ourselves..then we'd be successful dieters, right? hang in and hang on....let the band do it's job and you will reach goal.

Question regarding amounts? Please help!
VegasGrace replied to slinkymalinky's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You'll be surprised at how little a human can eat and still be okay. We've just gotten used to bigger portions. Remember back in the 70s or was it the 80s that the small size cups became kids size, the mediums became smalls, the larges became medium, and then they introduced the jumbo...which was called large. And do you remember a time when all someone had for breakfast was a biscuit or piece of bread. And lunch was a simple thermos of soup. That's pretty much the amount of food I eat now in a day. -
Yes, it's possible. Funny thing, you'll find greater weightloss when that happens. Let me explain. A food item that you eat that goes down and lingers...and lingers...and lingers.... you will get full faster and eat less. This has happened to me a few times over the past year. Corn dogs! They do it everytime! I remember the first instance this happened. I had a corn dog one day. Was full for the rest of the day and then the next day I didn't eat as much, but still ate. The 3rd day I drank alot of liquids and felt sick...woosie. I slimed up...the corn dog chunk! {the other foods went down} Had a corn dog last month {forgot about what happened before} and the same thing happened. A day or so later I slimed it up. So, it's possible it's taking a very, very long time to digets the bread. Either drink really fast to bring it up or just let a few more days pass to break it down. Good luck!

Please tell me about your pre-op diet
VegasGrace replied to Rivieramaya05's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't cheat yourself out of the lapband system just because you have vacation plans. Many feel the same way;however, about being banded in Oct/Nov/or Dec.... so close to the holidays and they want to be able to eat. My advice is 6 weeks from surgery have your first adjustment. Stats say you won't get restriction...so you are a go for the buffets! But, make an appointment now for the day you return. It was #2 that gave me restriction...so it could be for you as well. Make the 6 week and the second adjustment appointments NOW. And post pics of your trip- have fun! -
Weight gaining....what gives...generally speaking?
VegasGrace replied to midwestchickie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Tips...sure. Let the band do what you paid for it to do. During the first 6/10/14 weeks ...up until you get restriction.... take this time and DON'T diet. Heal, get used to the band, learn about nutrition, start dabbling in the kitchen to find out what you like/don't like. And family, too. Find out if they like sauteed peppers/onions .... Once you get restriction, that's when the weightloss will come. Instead of eating an entire 12" sub, you'll eat 2-3 bites and be done. Instead of eating a 2 porkchops, 3 servings of stuffing, and 2 rolls...you'll eat 2 bites of the porkchop, 2 or 3 forkfulls of the stuffing, and probably only 1 bite of the roll. Everyone knows that I didn't diet, but I did STOP going thru drive thru multiple times a day. I did stop pizza delivery 2x a week. But, I still don't diet. I just had a snack pac size Doritos and I made the family chocolate milkshakes in the blender today. yum! But, I only had 1/2 a cup....that's the trick. Reduce the quantity of food you eat and learn your body. Hope this helps. Many find exercise, dieting, shakes, pills, etc. beneficial. I'm sure they are more healthy than me and can definitely run faster than me {I'm disabled and lost my mobility years back} I can do some things now on my own. Hang in there and the weightloss will come if you let it! -
Anyone up for a meet and greet this weekend?
VegasGrace replied to FeliciaLevy75's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Sunday is the sabbath, so those are always out for me. But if anyone ever can do a Saturday or any other day during the week...I'm up for it. Yes, I know where the Cannery is. I guess anything in Vegas around the strip/ I-15 area would be good. Hope to meet another bandster- haven't in a year...but I know they are out there. -
How much weight did you loose on your pre/ post-op liquid diet?
VegasGrace replied to AppleBottom's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It amazes me when I read that people lose weight pre or post op. Basically it's dieting....and I didn't do well dieting. So my answer is ZERO. I didn't lose my first ounce until 10 weeks after surgery when I got restriction. But more power to those who can diet! -
Fill or no Fill-what should I do?
VegasGrace replied to lonestar5212's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
If this were me, I'd call and cancel the appointment but make one for 4 weeks from now. Seems like you are in a great spot...losing weight, feeling great! When you get to 3 weeks of no weightloss...that's when it's time for a fill. Or if you are having to diet, as in really fighting urges, cracking, etc. Congrats! -
How long on liquids to break a plateau?
VegasGrace replied to SB0233's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Liquids is one way to break a plateau. Hope someone will chime in but liquids never worked for me. Sugar did. Eating a doughnut and a Coke (or as much as I could of 1)...that caused my body to kickstart weightloss again. Others have their food they found to jumpstart their weightloss again. Maybe they will post what works for them. -
Weight gaining....what gives...generally speaking?
VegasGrace replied to midwestchickie's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Many work against the band or do unnecessry things. Exercise isn't required for weightloss...but it will make for a better life as in being more active, the brain stimulation, etc. Again, anyone can lose weight and not exercise. Dieting isn't required for weightloss. Didn't everyone who got the band already try numerous diets and they all failed? The lapband is to decrease quantity of food someone eats...that causes weightloss. And during the time someone is restricted, that's the time to relearn how to eat, move to more nutritous foods, etc. However, if someone only ate 1000 calories a day and a tiny amount of food pre-band...this may not work for them. Their quantity is already low. Just my 2 cents worth and another viewpoint. Don't flame me...I said it's another viewpoint. -
Please tell me about your pre-op diet
VegasGrace replied to Rivieramaya05's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My pre-op was the standard for pretty much any surgery w/ a general. 3 days of liquids. I drank tons of hot chocolate, pumpkin Soup, cereal-drink milk only. Was on a cruise...had to improvise. -
Not sure if I am too tight..
VegasGrace replied to OhioGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Vomited or slimed? If you are vomiting, as in from your lower gut.......you should go to the doc as soon as possible. But, if you are sliming after 5 bites....eat 4 and stop. Slime after 4...eat 3 and stop. Of course, if eating small, frequent meals is difficult...you could always get a slight unfill so you can eat more. I remember a while there I could only eat a few bites...but I ate 5 or more times a day. Remember, it's not forever...when you get to maintenance things will be different.
