Wow! Good job! I didn't lose the first pound until 10 weeks after surgery. So you are off to a better start than me. 1) What am I doing wrong with not losing weight? You are not doing anything wrong...you are losing weight! 2)What should I except after surgery while in the hospital and coming home? You should expect anything and everything. Hope for the best, plan for the worst. If you've ever had a baby, root canal, ... even fillings in my case... what did you do for those? Did you prepare in advance and ensured meals were made and put in the freezer? Or did you have family take care of that? I just took a week off...from life. I slept alot, ate very little, and sipped cold drinks. My three daughters took care of getting each other ready for school, getting take out and pizza. ... renting movies.... You know your body better than anyone, so if you can't tolerate pain well...then truly prepare for the worst and get your scripts filled before you have the surgery. {btw...childbirth was worse than anything I've ever experienced in my life!}

Hi...glad to see I'm not the only one gaining weight. I am on maintenance and found Doritos. Delicious, cruncy, and go right thru. Gained 2 pounds this week. A body cannot gain weight unless there is too much intake. Even those w/ medical issues that causes weight gain won't gain weight if they don't eat. - not realistic; however. I am just going back to meal planning and ensuring I have plenty of food that won't cause weight gain (I slime if I eat to much) and stay away from Doritos. Yes, get a fill. Paying out of pocket is something many if not most of us do. But it's so worth it! Good luck and keep us posted.

Can you stay at one fill level forever?
VegasGrace replied to yostefee's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Sounds like this is where YOU come into play...not the band. I'm on maintenance and found Doritos go down so easily...yep, gained 2 pounds this week. While I am still 5 pounds below goal, I don't feel it's a bad thing. However, we have to stay away from those things that cause the weight to pile on....like Doritos and whatever you've found you can eat alot without sliming it up. Good luck and you've done so well! -
EAS Myoplex Carb Sense Nutrition Bar
VegasGrace replied to NYGMEN's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
That's a great idea. I'm sure I didn't ... and still don't get the recommended amount of Protein. But come to think of it, I'm sure I didn't before I was banded either. Protein is probably what will keep illness at bay (as I've had my fair share of flu and pnemonia this year) -
Check at Dartmouth. Also, lets see... NH..... where to go besides Dartmouth..... Nashua may have some place..... where else...Concord may. If you don't have insurance to cover this...consider going someplace else beside NH. Good luck!

Get a fill when: your weight loss halts for at least 2 weeks {give your body time just in case something is hormonal or medication related} you feel like you eat too much AND can't control what you eat I went through a while of losing .33 lb a week. I didn't complain or even think I needed a fill ... afterall weight loss is weight loss

Nah, she's entitled to her opinion....if someone doesn't like it...they shouldn't be tuning in. She asked all the right questions and was even funny when she didn't call things by the right name. Oprah KNOWS more about WLS than she let on.

SURVEY-- Your Food Stages
VegasGrace replied to deneicy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
1. Did you have a nutritionist? Did you receive a written diet or program? Yes, yes. 2. What was your pre-op diet? How long were you on it? Liquids, 3 days 3. What days were you on Clear Liquids? None 4. How long were you on Full Liquids? Did you incorporate any whole foods in this stage, for example, by blending? Don't even know what that is...full liquids. 5. When were you on the Puree Diet? Day out of hospital til 3 days later. 6. When were you on the Soft food Diet? Wait, soft food? Maybe I wasn't on puree. 7. In the soft food diet, were you told which foods to avoid or be careful of? Yes. 8. Did you deviate from your diet? What was your experience, if so? No. If you are hungry...eat! If it hurts...don't do it! my philosophy anyways -
That's a neat idea....just don't know though. I eat regular foods, even out of regular cookbooks. I just have to be mindful of things I can't tolerate. If there was a cookbook for Lapband, I'd pick it up for sure, just out of curiosity.

Addiction transfer.... was discussed yesterday on Oprah. Dear, you have an addiction....so fix that. You may not even have needed the surgery...just your addictive behavior under control. Knowing first hand about addiction, I've stopped eating and the other habits and sleep now. Yeah, sleep. Weird, huh? But I just don't know what to do....either about my addictive behavior.

Previous Surgeries prior to Lap-Band
VegasGrace replied to jamel8232's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are not off track for your concern. The risks increase with EACH surgery you have. Something about being more prone to something...I'd have to do a yahoo search for that....maybe it's latex something? A nurse who had her stomach stapled in the 90s, then a tummy tuck, then RnY this decade..... was terrified of having her last procedure done due to the number of prior surgeries. Always listen to your gut! If you are hesitant, you shouldn't have the procedure. If it's nothing more than wedding day jitters, go for it! Good luck and keep us posted on the outcome. -
Relocating to Arizona and I need some info...can you help?
VegasGrace posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi, my name is Grace and am excited that we are finalizing our decision to move to Arizona. My daughter graduates in March and wants to go to Le Cordon Bleu school in Scottsdale. I'm doing this by myself, as I'm a single parent. Do any of you know some good housing areas...cheap/clean/quiet? I'm a renter and will be looking to buy after next Christmas. Am retired military and own my own business so I don't need employment info. But I do have an 8th grader so I will need a good school district, or private school. So any of you have any advice...please feel free to share. Even a doc I can go to for band adjustments. Thanks. Grace -
Yep, when you try to get someone else to pay for it....the redtape and waiting game begin! But you have the right to have your insurance pay or cover this. So don't give up. I didn't have that problem, I don't have insurance. After deciding on the band, I interviewed a few docs, chose one and had the surgery within a month.

Crunchwrap combo from Taco Bell. I've tried 2x since being banded to eat one....NOPE. It gets stuck and hurts like h e double toothpicks.

Wow, good question. I didn't have a bmi in mind for a goal...only a size and weight. Let me calculate my bmi now.... wow, 24.5...and you are wanting what? Hmmm....don't let that BMI fool you. Just get to where you feel good in the skin you are in!

Go for it! Start jogging...if that doesn't work for you try brisk walking and jog when you can for a few steps. You are doing way better than me, I don't exercise a bit.

NEED HELP!!! Most everything gets stuck...
VegasGrace replied to JustCallMeKelly's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Congrats on the restriction! Stuck food? You've got plenty of options. 1st) Don't eat it 2nd) cut it us so fine that you get a grain/grit of the food and not even a tsp full Take forever to eat. 3rd) eat it, let it get stuck, then slime it up (this was my choice) 4th) get an adjustment to unfill some of that restriction Good luck! -
DISCOURAGED... anyone else?
VegasGrace replied to SeattleGirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry you are suffering so. Thanks to your post many others will LEARN that this is SURGERY....not a simple haircut. Anytime someone tinkers with the innards there is going to be discomfort to even pain. Hang in....it does get better! -
Been away from home this holiday season (no weighing in everyday) and today at my sisters...she had me try on some of her clothes saying mine were way too baggy... SIZE 6........I about fainted...had on 10s. Got on her scale...148lbs. WOW!!!! goal was 150 Merry Christmas to me!

Any one use Dr. Daniel Huacuz-Tijuana?
VegasGrace replied to weightshaker's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Implantation of the band isn't the Lap-Band System.... when selecting the lapband for weightloss who and where to get the appliance is only a part of the process.... adjustments- select a doc and if you travel to the same place alot...check out who does adjustments there, too Primary Care- your family/primary care doc will be one of your best resources....as a person 'diets' things can happen...and it's not just band specific. Due to the lowered food intake, I have gotten sick alot this past year, still sick now w/ a new flu. When you start showing symptoms...get seen! Nutritional issues, your primary care can handle these as well....like if you need a script for potassium or something. Many things can be added to this list, but when I hear of folks getting the band but not planning for adjustments or other issues..... well, it's like buying a car and not having a drivers license or insurance to drive it off the lot. And there are some who elect to do ONE STOP shopping, as in get the appliance, adjustments, etc at ONE place. That's great ... if you are happy with the service. I've read countless stories of people being 'stuck' with a provider and can't afford to go elsewhere. (they paid a lump sum to cover the device and aftercare) Good luck everyone! I'm at the end of my weightloss journey and Dr. Huacuz was the one who performed my surgery and has exceeded my expectations. -
Wow, good question! I travel a bit as well and eat what I want.... I just have to be mindful IF I know I will start sliming on something or not.
-
NSAIDS...you are more prone for erosion....but docs will still give them when needed. Long term use isn't good.
-
I still have soda when I want. I am mixing reg and diet as I don't like diet sodas.
-
Yes, it's normal. You mentioned feeling warm...but didn't say she had a fever. So if she has a fever, that's NOT normal. But not wanting anything to eat or drink after any procedure is not abnormal. I didn't want anything either, the nurses kinda pushed what they could while I was there but I didn't have but a few bites over the next few days. Fever? Call the doc. Make sure the antibiotics are being taken as directed.

Reading the paper I saw an article where people are so desperate in Hati, they are eating dirt to fill their bellies. Granted there is a type of soil that has something in it that's a delicacy...but now they are eating just regular dirt. And as I read it, I looked at my plate with all that was going down the garbage disposal. How blessed we are in America....but too much of anything isn't good...like food.
