No, it's not normal....normal being average. You shouldn't have lost any weight. (weightloss comes after adjustments to get restriction) Congrats! You are way ahead of the game.
-
Wow, never heard of that. Your doc will ensure you didn't eat at Denny's or McDonalds the day of surgery.... hang in.... your instructions will come in some form. (I only had 2 days of liquids....not weeks like alot of other folks. You may be lucky and just get by with nothing past midnight or something.) Keep us posted!

Wow, free? Hey, hey! Call today as you are due for your first adjustment soon. I go to a doctors office.

Anyone else in the <35 BMI Clinical Trial?
VegasGrace replied to Playful Psychic's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow, that's neat. When I was banded my bmi was teetering around 30 or so....would have been nice to be part of a trial. I'm on maintenance and have done so well. Keep us posted on the trial and the results. -
There is a secret number...a number an adjuster can write a check for w/o approval.... 10 years ago it was like $2,000. Now, I'm certain it's much, much more. Find out what that number is...and see. Well, that is true, once they pay...they are done and you do have to sign a waiver. Don't want to 'settle'...don't. There is no law saying you have to settle. Just check with your state to see what the Statute of Limitations is on these things and be sure you file within the time limits. Save all your receipts and present them. The judge will determine if there is any further possible expenses at that time...yes, they get to decide so if you've not had any receipts for anything for a while....you may not get future benefits. good luck

It's not an issue with just lapband...or weightloss. I was cold as a child, as a teen, and as a young adult. Until I gained weight. Now I'm back down to my 19 year old weight...I'm cold again!
-
Vindication, indeed! Congrats and keep us posted on your progress.

Losing too much weight
VegasGrace replied to VegasGrace's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey, shortgal....you are a smart one. Are you really Dr. Phil in disguise? I didn't take offense to it as I'm not easily offended...but I must have offended someone. And that for sure, I hate to do. Been on the forum a while and have seen many times where a post goes off into another area... someone mis-reads, or the writer didn't clarify. I did take a peak at her link and she is thin... and I think me saying that I didn't want to be one w/ bones...I saw her and she does have that look. It's so exciting for her, though. She's come a long way. So, Chickie, you have done a great job. Sorry we don't think alike and I offended you. You take care of yourself! Thanks again for the advice everyone, I gained a pound off 1 ice cream and 3 tootsie rolls. So I must be borderline maintaining my weight....so I'll up the calories a tad...maybe more fruit and fruit juices. -
Last meal before liquid diet?
VegasGrace replied to Needol's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah, now that I think about it..... if you can eat foods again a week or so later.... shouldn't you eat things that you WON'T be able to eat again, or there's a big possibilty? If that's the case, hamburgers...loaded. RoastBeef sandwiches. Crunchwrap/ Cheesy Beefy Melt -Taco Bell. Those are the only things I won't even attempt to eat now...they get stuck no matter how tiny of a bite I take or how much I chew. -
Losing too much weight
VegasGrace replied to VegasGrace's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You've totally lost me. I've never seen you, I'm talking about me....what I like. For sure you don't think everyone finds the same things attractive or unattractive? And please don't say you are unattractive, I'm certain you have beauty, everyone does. -
The Pouch and Getting Stuck - how does this work?
VegasGrace replied to kinnewj's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Good question. The way I understand it is a bite or two should fill the pouch. But most do not stop at just 1-2 bites....thus causing a backup. Or, in my case with the Crunchwrap from Taco Bell.... the piece that I swallowed was too large to pass thru the pouch. Digestion is reduced since it's such a tiny place and that's why we begin the digestion process with chewing, chewing, chewing...to break it down. But some foods aren't so easily broken down... like the Cruchwrap. There are 3 things I won't even attempt to eat because they get stuck. Besides the wrap, hamburgers or roast beef sandwiches. But remember, 2 spoonfulls will fill the pouch in many cases and many simply eat too much. -
restriction 3 weeks post op?
VegasGrace replied to donnabarney's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, that's not entirely accurate. The lapband system was designed to give a patient restriction with adequate adjustment. If a patient has it with just the band being put in... or w/ a first fill.... what a bonus! The 'restriction' you feel may just be swelling. Swelling/enlargement of tissue can be restrictive. Congrats on the steps you've taken to control your weight! -
Cousin passed, had lapband now the family is freaking
VegasGrace replied to LosingIt08's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wow, that's some story. Hate your family is going thru that. The docs have a reason, or suspected reason your cousin slipped into a coma. Wonder why they didn't tell your family. Or, if they did, why didn't they share it with you. My first guess was potassium deficiency. I had/have that and was told at the most severe I could die...but a coma would be first. It's so important when you have any procedure done WLS or gallstone removal.... you have to stay close to your doctor until he/she gives clearance for annual checkups. I'm sure your cousin did and hate the doctor didn't catch anything. But sadly with these cases, the truth of what happens goes down with the patient. You hang in there and our prayers are with you and yours. As for continuing w/ WLS....that's something you have to decide. Weigh the risks and benefits. You cousin did and chose to take action. Let her go with dignity. -
I'm thinking about getting banded
VegasGrace replied to singledad167's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Just give it alot of thought and weigh all your options. I'm a food addict, so I can sort of relate to smokers. My mother, on hospice now w/ congestive heart failure and COPD... still smokes. I've watched what it can do to someone. But like her, taking off her oxygen mask to have a few puffs...I still overeat from time to time. But the band won't let me digest it. Let us know how things go for you in this process. -
Week out and feel ???Hungry???
VegasGrace replied to Manda_T's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, you are. If your tummy is rumbling... but I remember feeling the rumble...but not being hungry. Hopefully that is happening to you. If so, enjoy the weightloss! -
Last meal before liquid diet?
VegasGrace replied to Needol's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I ate like a pig. I think that week I hit every place in town and ate all my favorite foods at home. Made me sick! But doing that caused me to NOT want anything...for quite a long time. I never went through what some do...longing for something and can't have it. Let us know what you decide. -
Non-stop nausea and PB
VegasGrace replied to FunDuck's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
OUCH. You handled this very well. Keep us posted on how things are going for you. -
Well, it's totally up to you. Can you eat 1-2 bites and walk away? If so, I'd wait and see...sometimes restriction comes and goes for many. If not, go back for an unfill. But, if you are actually vomiting... get an unfill if you can't stop eating.
-
Ask. Don't be afraid to speak freely with your doctor and staff. The only dumb question is the one not asked...and believe me, they don't mind explaining things to you or sharing info. My doc had to explain 3 times, 3 different ways before I got it.
-
When you go in for your first fill at 6 weeks post op, your doc may do an adjustment w/ xray aka fluro. If he doesn't, request it...tell him your thoughts...and you'd rather be safe than sorry. That xray shouldn't be but about 80-100 bucks. And if there is no slippage.... good deal. If you do...well, that's money well spent.

Here! Here! But, I think people are just sharing their experiences. Most, if not all, do solve their issues and work the problems. I've had a few bumps in the road (I'm the one that swallowed bubblegum and had to go under for GI to retrieve it). This is a great place to share experiences. And don't be afraid...be aware of 'this could happen to you'. You shouldn't be scared because you already knew this could happen to you. All bandsters are supposed to 'know'.

How much weight did you lose in pre op diet??
VegasGrace replied to BandedInNY's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Zero. Wow, am I the only one who can't diet? I lose ZERO pounds on pre-op...didn't cheat. promise! And then post op, lost ZERO as well. After first fill lost ZERO. After second fill....well, look at my ticker. -
Hahahah. Congrats? I'm insane and still was approved for the band. Don't think they are looking for sanity...just can a patient and will a patient follow doctors orders. The AMA now consider depression and anxiety disorder as comorbids....go figure!

Worried about not wanting to eat - and liking it!
VegasGrace replied to sizzlingseven's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It' new. It's different. Believe me, it will wear off....one day. Then there will be a time you will want to eat...and alot...but can't. It's when old habits revisit. Enjoy this time and remember, any weightloss before fills and restriction are a bonus! -
Sounds like it...that you are addict-aholic. Sad to say, that's the American way. Dr. Phil McCraw a couple of years ago published a book about weightloss...but it was getting at the root of WHY. Can't recall the name but weight is a side effect of life. Fix the life so no more side effects.
