1. Hi all, I'm about three weeks post op, and I lost 14lbs the first week post op... but not a single pound more since! I feel like I'm basically eating nothing and the scale won't budge! It is just getting frustrating. I don't get a fill until 12/17.
2. I am about 5 weeks post op and I'm just feeling so discouraged. I'm not losing any weight, I'm constantly hungry, and when I do eat, I feel like I could eat forever. I just don't get full like I assumed I would. Also, no foods whatsoever bother me (is this normal?). I have tried tiny bits of everything including pasta, bread, rice, beer, & Diet Pepsi. (I did not have meals of any of these, just bites!) I giess I shouldn't be complaining that I feel good, I guess I just assumed this would be much harder. I go in next week for a fill so hopefully it will help things.

Feeling So Discouraged!... And Hungry!

Thank you guys all for the advice. I actually have been sticking to my drs. diet, eating lots of protein and soft cooked foods. Like I said, I only tried those 'bad' foods once and I guess I was sort of testing my band. Probably a mistake but I am only human... I screw up sometimes lol.

What Am I Doing Wrong? Or Is This Normal?

Thank you all for the great advice!!! I do realize I am very early in the game but it can be legitimately frustrating nonetheless, especially when you're used to losing consistently each week as I was pre-op (I lost 78lbs prior to surgery). I am going to refocus on healing and watching my calorie intake and add in extra walks until I can get back into the gym like I was before. I am also a scale addict and like one of you said, not liking the number can set the tone for your entire day. I need to work on that!
5. My surgeon was Dr. Ramanathan. He put a too small band on and fillled it to capacity, sealing my stomach shut for 2 days. I was miserable and sick in the hospital until I demanded they remove it or replace it. Just make sure they have bith size bands available when they go in. It was something I never thought to ask but I wish I would've.
6. I was just banded at Magee in 11/4 and they screwed it up so I was rebanded on 11/6. It was my worst nightmare but thankfully I am doing great now. Who is your surgeon?

Salads

Thanks for the info... I tried a few bites the other day chopped real small and it went down just fine. It was yummy!

Salads

Hi all. I was wondering about salads and lettuce. When did you all start eating salads? I love salad and miss it so much lol. I am only two weeks post op and wont be starting on solids for another 2-3 weeks but I was just curious. Would that count as a soft food?

Gross Question So Sorry

Haha yes definitely! They pump you with gas during the surgery and it has to come out somehow. Lol. I had the same thing!

Salads

Yay! Good to hear that you guys haven't had problems with it. Thanks for the input!!
11. I talked to my surgeon about this at great length because the first band he put on was too tight and I had to go in for emergency surgery 2 days later to replace my band. The bands come empty, but they ARE "primed" during surgery. This is to ensure there are no leaks. Sometimes this fluid is left in, sometimes it is removed. It is usually around 4-5ccs. And your surgeon may not have done it himself but it was definitely done during your surgery.

Banded 11/4- Major Complications :(

Thanks. And yea, I certainly won't be recommending my surgeon to anyone.
13. Hi all. I was banded early Monday morning (11/4 @7:30am) and was out of recovery by noon amd seemingly doing well. The hospital I was in requires one overnight stay. I was fine until monday evening when I woke up from a dead sleep to regurgitate mucus and blood. I did thins about 3 times before I could finally fall back to sleep. The next morning they took me down for a upper GI with barium. 8 know something was wrong as soon I stood up on the machine and looked up at the screen. They advised me to sip the barium and it just sat in my esophagus and wouldn't go into my stomach. I ended up having a panic attack and they had to give me Ativan. I continued to throw up all day in horrible pain and misery. My dr. Wanted to wait it out and see if it was just swelled. By Wednesday, I demanded that the surgeon take the band out... but he convinced me that he could put a larger one in and I agreed. I went intio surgery weds nite and came out doing pretty well. The band that was in there had too much Fluid and was too small to begin with. I don't if I should blame my surgeon or hust agree it was a mistake. But I am happy to say I am finally home tonite and drinking fluids. I am in major pain at my sites tho since they were cut open twice. Im praying that this will work and I will do okay. Btw thanks for all the support and congrats on my other post that got deleted I think (?)

Pureed Food Ideas Needed!

Thanks for the ideas and advice
17. Hi all! I start my pureed diet on Sunday and I'm in need of some ideas. Especially some ideas to get some protein in because I'm finding it real tough now. I'd say I've been getting about 40g a day. Is this the same as "mushies" Iv been hearing about? Or is that like the soft foods, which is not for another two weeks for me. Thanks!

Anyone getting banded in Nov?

Just fyi, I am 1 week post op and sitting at my computer desk and driving is the worst. It hurts anytime I have to sit straight up for an extended period of time. Make sure you wear a very loose waistband.

Banded 11/4- Major Complications :(

Thank you all for your concerns and support. I am now a week post op and I'm feeling pretty good. A little better everyday and down 14lbs in a week. I had my first post op appointment today and was disappointed to find out my surgeon does not deal with patients post op. I will now have a new dr. who deals with the fills and all that. I wabted to ask him some questions but I made sure to ask the others and the physician assistants about it. They all knew about my ordeal because it was pretty unusual I guess. I asked to read the report and they allowed. Turns out the other surgeon took out the 10ccs from somewhere surrounding my port. Very odd. There was a total of 5ccs in it.

Banded today!! 11/4

Hi K I'm sorry I didn't reply sooner. It wasn't letting me on the app and I couldn't get to my posts. I have to be completely honest, my experience at the hospital was a disaster. I don't know if you seen my other post, but my surgeon (Dr. Ramanathan) put a too small sized band on me, and then proceeded to fill it with at least 5ccs of fluid. I couldn't swallow and ended up panicing having severe nausea and vomiting of stomach acid, mucus, and blood. It was very scary. I was in complete misery for 2 days. On Wednesday night at 11pm, they finally took me back into surgery and replaced the band with a larger one. I am doing much better now. The nurses were fantastic and everyone really tried to make me as comfortable as possible. I ended up being in the hospital for 5 days. Dr. Ramanathan seemed like such a good guy and I think he is, but I must admit he let me down. After having two surgeries in 3 days, I am still not feeling that great. My stomach is just very sore and my whole body just aches, but I think I am getting a little better everyday. Today I was allowed to move on to full liquids, so I am happy about that! Private message me and we can talk about everything

Banded today!! 11/4

Hello everyone! I have been reading this forum for a while but this is my first post. I was banded today after a 8 month process that included a 6 month diet, being denied by my insurance, and having to quit smoking cold turkey. I lost 73lbs on my own since March 21st this year. I went from 356 to 283 as of today. I am 27 from Pittsburgh. Right now, I am laying in Magee hospital, which requires all bariatric patients to stay. My stomach feel like someone kicked me 8000 times... but other than that, I feel okay. I am scared and excited to be starting this new journey.

Banded 11/4- Major Complications :(

My insurance covered the initial surgery so it BETTER pay for the doctor's screw up! I would have no way to pay for it at this point now

Banded 11/4- Major Complications :(

Thanks for the concerns ladies. I also thought that it would have been obviously important to have different size bands available at the time of the first surgery. They made it seem like they never thought of a larger band as an option. I must also mention that the surgeons fellow (asst. Surgeon) cake into my room and first tried to take out fluid that may have been in from priming... (he got 11 cc's!!!)... later in front of the ultrasound screen, the PA again tried to unfill the band and said she too out 4.7 cc's! So im thinking either the first time the asst surgeon didn't get the fluid from the band but the surrounding area or 2. There were 15.7ccs in my band to begin with!!! Still this didn't help and I threw up several times again.
