Tomorrow is the big day and scared
HappyCamper replied to Liz1531's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is normal to to scared. I was so scared that I was thinking of cancelling my surgery. If it helps any this was the easiest surgery to recover from ( and I've had several). I had very little pain once I got home. Good luck tomorrow. -
What is normal weight loss????
HappyCamper replied to lbunnehe's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery on the same day as you did. I have lost a total of 30 pounds including my pre op, but I have only lost 14 pounds since the day of surgery. I too was averaging about 800 calories a day. I just got my first fill yesterday. I am on liquids for two days, and so far I don't feel restricted. I hope once I'm back to eating solid food, I'll feel more restricted. Banded 7/20/07 -
I just got my first fill today. I have an AP 10cc band, and I got a 3cc fill. I was told to stay on liquids for 48 hours, so I'm not sure if I feel and restriction or not. I really don't feel any different yet. I'm hoping that when I'm back to solid food, that I'll feel some kind of restriction. Banded 7/20/07

Headache That Won't Stop!!
HappyCamper replied to REDGIRL's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I stopped drinking coffee when I started my pre-op diet and had a headache every day. It gets a little better every day. Better to have a headache now from caffine withdrawal than after surgery when you have a lot of other things to contend with. -
Scared to death
HappyCamper replied to MyLadyMelody's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm still on my asthma meds. It's only been a month since my surgery. I don't think I will be able to go off my meds since I've had asthma since I was a baby. Of course being so overweight made my asthma worse and I'm sure I'll be more comfortable as I lose the weight. -
Scared to death
HappyCamper replied to MyLadyMelody's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's normal to be scared. I had four other surgeries prior to this and I was still scared to death. I have also had asthma all my life and there was no problem with anesthesia. I was banded on 7/20/07 and this was by far the easiest recovery I've had. Good Luck -
I have UHC Choice Plus and I called them to ask if LapBand surgery was covered and they said yes. If I went to an in network surgeon they covered it 90% and in network hospital is covered 100% after $100 deductable. If I went to an out of network surgeon or hospital, they covered 70% Well my surgeon was out of network so I had to pay 30% of his charges, but the hospital was in network so I only had to pay my $100 deductable. I was approved very fast. My surgeon's office just sumitted a claim to UHC for my initial consultation. While I was in the process of trying to obtain my medical records for 5 years of chart notes stating my weight, I received a letter from UHC saying I was approved. I couldn't belive it. I call my surgeons office and they called UHC to verify, and yep I was approved. I couldn't believe was easy it was. It was 7 weeks from my initial consultation to my surgery. I wish you all luck and hope you are all approved soon.

HELLO, any oldies out there? I'm almost 63 and want to live.
HappyCamper replied to FatAttack's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi I am 58 and was banded on July 20, 2007. I felt I'd better hurry before I'm too old to have this procedure done. I have lost a total of 28 pounds since pre-op diet and after banding. I have had four other surgeries, and this was by far the easiest to recover from. I feel this is the best thing I've ever done for myself. I feel blessed to be given this gift. I plan to follow all the rules to make sure it works for me even though I'm old and have yo-yoed with my weight all my life. I was a bit concerned when I didn't lose a thing the first week after surgery. I started walking and riding my stationary bike every day and the weight started going down. Hooray! I'm getting my first fill on Aug.29th. I can't wait. -
I was told to drink 64 oz of Water a day plus my Protein shakes. It was very hard to get all that down the first couple of days. After that, it gets a lot easier. I did feel nauseated at times, but my doctor gave me liquid nausea medicine at discharge that worked great. Banded 7-20-07

Hi NuddyBuddy, I had a headache every morning when I went on my pre-op diet and gave up coffee. Maybe if you are used to drinking coffee, that is the reason for your headaches. Someone told me to quit the coffee before surgery, because you don't want to deal with headaches on top of everything else after surgery. It gets a little better every day. Hang in there.

Two weeks in -- obsessed by food
HappyCamper replied to kate325's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had my surgery on July 20th also. I never felt hungry the first week and a half after surgery, but now I'm hungry all the time. I can't stop thinking about food. I get my first fill on Aug 29th. I can't wait. -
I also was banded by Dr. Paya and I would highly recommend him. He's the best. Surgery 7-20-07 Dr. Mark Paya

I was banded by Dr. Paya on 7/20/07. He is wonderful. I'm so glad I chose him. I had some problems because of a previous surgery, and Dr. Paya went well beyond the call of duty. He is easy to talk to, and will answer all your questions. The medical personnel at the hospital had nothing but nice things to say about him.
