will my liver shrink?
HappyCamper replied to tex_mexie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you losing weight with what you are doing? If not, you may want to switch to just drinking your protein shakes for at least a week before you surgery. If you are losing weight then you should be fine. -
your favorite chewable vitamin...
HappyCamper replied to vanessah's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I take Centrum Silver Chewables Citrus Berry Flavored for adults 50+. They're not bad tasting at all. -
I'm from Palmdale (north Los Angeles county). How about you?

Most people don't feel restriction with the first fill. It took 3 fills for me to feel even a little restriction. Be patient. It will come.

DO you still use Protein Supplements in the long run?
HappyCamper replied to a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have a Protein Drink every day for Breakfast, because my band is much tighter in the mornings and a Protein drink goes down a lot easier than solid food . I have Premeir Protein ready to drink, 30g protein. from costco -
Liquid phase-Metamucil vs Benefiber
HappyCamper replied to hottie66's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take Benefiber every day, not really to help with hunger, but to keep me regular. I heard it's better to take than Metamucil for band patients, because it doesn't bulk up and get thick and won't stretch your pouch. You can put Benefiber in anything (I put it in my decaf coffee) and you won't taste it. -
I have a 14cc AP band and I didn't feel much restriction until I had 8cc's in my band. Even with good restriction you still have to do your job making sure you're eating the right kinds of foods and exercising. I hate exercise, and resisted doing anything for a long time. My weight was stuck in the same place for months. Then I started tracking everything I ate, wore my pedometer and walked at least 10,000 steps every day. Now I finally broke my plateau and am losing again. I think you need a fill and if you eat right and exercise, I think you'll find that you too will start losing. Good Luck.

I had Kaiser, then switched to UHC. My surgeons office told me I needed the 5 year history, but Kaiser lost my records. While I was trying to deal with Kaiser, I got a letter from UHC saying I was approved. Turns out I didn't need anything but a BMI over 40 or BMI over 35 with co-morbidities.

Looking for a surgeon in or around the San Fernando Valley
HappyCamper replied to Neptune's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I had my lapband surgery at West Hills Hospital by Dr. Mark Paya. It's a bariatric center of excellence, and Dr. Paya is a very skilled surgeon and is easy to talk to. Here is his website www.surgithin.com Good Luck. -
First fill on Tuesday, now Im having a lot of pain
HappyCamper replied to JadensMomma's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
5cc's in a 10cc band is a lot for a first fill. My first fill was 3cc's in a 14cc band. You are too tight. I've been there and it's no fun. You should have a little bit removed and you'll be lot more comfortable. -
I like Premier Protein chocolate. It comes in ready to drink individual cartons. I get it at Costco in an 18 pack. It tastes great and is very convenient.

Have had RouxNY, Can I have Lap Band too?
HappyCamper replied to AngelD1964's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
There is a lady in the support group that I go to that had RNY surgery, then gained some of her weight back. She then had revision surgery and got the lap band and is back on the road to losing again. Good luck to you. -
Baby Food Sucks!
HappyCamper replied to ChristineXtreme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Baby food meats are the worst! I swear they smell and taste like cat food (not that I ever tasted cat food). When I first tried these, I said "People ought to be arrested for child abuse for feeding their babies this cra*". LOL -
I did Optifast back in the 80's (just before Oprah did it), and I lost over 80 pounds. I felt and looked great for about a minute. When I went off Optifast and back to food, I never gained weight so fast in all my life. I think being on a liquid diet like that for a long time messes up you metabolism. Most obese people can lose weight by dieting or going on fasts, but the weight comes right back plus some. I've lost between 80 and 100 pounds four different times, only to have the weight come piling back on. I'm hoping that my band will give me the tool to maintain my weight loss.

Wasa, I don't know how I missed all this, but I was shocked to log on this morning and see the title of this thread. I know I've read that if you had it to do all over again, that you'd go with the sleeve, but I didn't know that you were having problems and actually had revision surgery. You've been such an inspiration to me. I wish you all the best and I hope all goes well with your new sleeve. I do hope you continue to post here. I enjoy reading your posts more than anyone, and I am anxious to hear all about your PS when you have it.

I'm a retired AT&T formerly SBC employee in California. I was told by my surgeons office that I need the five year weight documentation from my PCP. While was fighting to get my records (they couldn't find my records for a while), I got a letter from UHC saying I was approved. I couldn't believe it. My surgeons office called to verify and sure enough, I was approved. I had my surgery last July, and it's the best thing I've ever done.

Question About Fills
HappyCamper replied to JDsmommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It depends on your surgeon. Some surgeons are very conservative and only fill you a little at a time, while others are more aggressive, and give you bigger fills. We all want to have good restriction, and it's hard waiting for that time to come. Be patient, you'll get there. -
Congrats. Now you're an official bandster.

sleep test before surgery?
HappyCamper replied to lilnora2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a sleep study done in my home before surgery. Someone came to my house and hooked me up with all sorts of wires, then monitored me from another room. Half way through the night, she put me on a cpap machine then monitored me the rest of the night. I ended up having severe sleep apnea and have been on a cpap machine ever since. I sleep much better now, and don't feel tired all the time. -
Best of luck to you Mike. You'll do great. I've had five surgeries and this was by far the easiest. Let us know how things went.

Most people don't get good restriction with their first fill. I didn't feel any restriction until my third fill. Be patient, you'll get there.

Does 14cc band give same restriction as 10cc band?
HappyCamper replied to divaofsongs's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have the 14cc band. I got restriction after my 3rd fill and had 7.1cc in my band. -
Question about Sleep Study
HappyCamper replied to MirandaK's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told not to take any over the counter sleep aid because it would interfere with the sleep study, but I could take Lunesta if my doctor prescribed it. I took the Lunesta and it helped a lot.
