How to tell your 4 yr old?
Jojo23 replied to fuzzywhitebunny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I decided to tell a half truth to my girls who are eight. I told them I got my tummy fixed (I have always had an incompetent valve & volume reflux has always been part of my life), & I said to them that one of the side effects is that I will not ever be able to eat as much as I normally did. I told them I will eat even less than their meal portion. I felt it was important that they realise that I had an operation to fix me that the side effect was eating less. Girls are sensitive to what their Mum does & I didn't want them thinking that eating very small portions was "normal" and that it is just as bad as eating large portions. One of my girls then said. I hope you don't get too skinny Mum. So it definately does make them curious & even if you think they don't notice, they will. -

Wishing you guys a safe surgery & good post surgery vibes! I'm on the otherside & although I'm quite tired & am only having water or ice chips, I'm really excited for the journey from here. I won't be joining the facebook thing as I don't want the people in my life to know I had this surgery. May you all make your goal weights & feel much better for having your surgery! Take care! -
Feb 16th- Surgery Day!
Jojo23 replied to ABrandNewKae's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the good wishes. I woke up in recovery pretty shabby! Pain & nausea was all I can remember. Haven't slept well in hospital. Have only had water or ice chips since surgery. Think I will be in a happier mood when I get home. Really appreciated the well wishes. Hope the others went well! -
Feb 16th- Surgery Day!

Just wanted to wish you all a very good surgery for tomorrow. I'm nervous but excited! See you on the other side with a sleeved stomach! Take care & hopefully a quick recovery for us all! ???? -
I get what your saying totally. My BMI is 32 & I'm 5'4". I take medication which doesn't help with controlling my weight, but I will be on them for life. Why do I have to wait till I have more weight issues to deal with, so I am having the sleeve on Monday. I know I can't tell people because they will be totally judgemental but as long as my closest family know & are supportive is enough for me. I'm also pale & people like to remind me how "white" I am. Why can't people just mind their own business when it comes to picking fault or differences at others. I hope you well in your journey & know that the Drs wouldn't let you do it either if they thought you weren't a candidate. All the best!

Feb 16th- Surgery Day!
Jojo23 replied to ABrandNewKae's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi @@ABrandNewKae &@@VGB, I guess the good thing is we will all have our surgery on the same day so we do the diet at the same pace. Yeah, I noticed how different people do different diets. Yesterday was my breaking point & I can totally understand why you stood at the fridge & cried Kaeley. I was in tears most of yesterday. I'm having plenty of water & always do but I think it's the sugars that are giving me more headaches. I have to break the diet tomorrow night but I will be smart about it. I told the surgeon & he said I can break it for that night. Don't need the questions. I think that after surgery we are all going to have to deal with people questioning our small portions but I'm ok with that. Ordering green vegies at the restaurant just would have screamed "obvious", so glad I have my pass for the night. Kaeley I had the band for a year & had it taken out last year. I'm now ready for the sleeve. I know how hard the band was but am now looking forward to the sleeve as it doesn't have the "getting stuck" problem which happened a lot with me. Just have to avoid the "throwing up" bit with the sleeve but I think we all have a learning curve with bariatric surgery. Well wishing you both a successful time with the pre-op diet. I remember when I got to the day before surgery last time that I was so relieved it was over that not having anything to eat or drink the day of surgery was sooooo easy. What time are you guys going in. I'm booked to be in the hospital at 7:00am. Thx for cheering me up. I haven't had the 3rd shake so have been adding to my salad or vegetables an egg & it's amazing how brilliant that little bit of protein helped. Hang in there! ???? -
Feb 16th- Surgery Day!
Jojo23 replied to ABrandNewKae's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! I'm being operated on on the 16th too. Really nervous & finding the pre-op diet hard. I don't like the shakes & am only consuming 2 a day instead of required 3 & last night found it too hard to eat just "green" vegetables. It's making me depressed. I've got constant headaches/migraine since I started 5 days ago. How are you all doing? It making me want to sleep the days away. Sorry to be such a downer. I did this diet before being lapbanded (which didn't work for me) & didn't find it this hard. I'm being really tough on myself & sticking to the diet so strictly I think it's messing with my head. Hope you are doing better than me. Would like to hear how your going! -

Started my pre-op diet on Monday (op on 16th Feb). I'm starrrrrrving! Think it's my worst day so far. Sorry for the whinge. I know it's to help everything be nice & detoxed but it's hard. 3 shakes & dinner is 2 cups of green vegetables. not happy but weirdly happy the journey is starting too! Sorry for the download. -
