Well after visiting with the surgeon she recommended the sleeve because I have no other ailments ..like diabetes or high cholesterol etc...she said sleeve has less risk so after thinking about it and talking to my husband I've decided on sleeve. It does Co cern me bc the stomach is bigger....but I'm really going to give it my all and hopefully it'll work.

BOSTON, MA - MGH - Anyone go thru that surgical weight loss program?
flipper72 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Anyone out there a fellow Bostonian and have their surgery through Mass General? I can't seem to get an answer on what their surgical weight loss program consists of. -
I have met with the nutritionist, the psychologist and the doctor and I have an appointment with the surgeon this Friday. I know that my insurance requires a certification authorization that takes 2-3 business days. Does anyone have any idea what the meeting with the surgeon entails? Does this mean I'll get scheduled for surgery? Or are there many more steps after this? thanks!

Surgical Journey - Waiting game?
flipper72 replied to flipper72's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No I haven't done any clearance tests like that. I have 2 ultrasounds on the 19th...that's all so far. How long is it usually between the first meeting with the surgeon and the actual surgery....any idea? -

I've decided to have weight loss surgery. What happens next? Do I have to undergo anything extension before getting surgery.....or do I just meet with the doctors and set up an appointment? -

Trying to stay positive
flipper72 replied to laguerr13's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Can I ask why insurance you have laguerr13 ? I don't want to pry, but I have an HMO (tufts) and am hoping they cover most of the procedures. I'll have to start reading the fine print. -
I'm very nervous and excited at the same time. I think my biggest fear is that I'll hear something that will change my mind, or scare me out of the LBS....I was just reading about the 3 week slimfast diet before the surgery....man, if I can pull that off it'll be a Christmas miracle..haha! Hope everyone is doing great!!

Info Seminar...will I be the only one there?
flipper72 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This may seem strange, but I just registered for the information seminar and couldn't help but think if I was going to be the only one sitting there..haha. It would appear that I will learn a lot about the process and that is why I'm going. I really believe this is my path at this point and although I'm still in the planning stages, I'm ready. This forum has been a huge help!! Thank you all so much!! So, did you all have to attend the info seminar? how was it? Thank you! -

Hi everyone - I'm very new here and haven't even talked to my doctor yet about possible surgery. I have an appt tomorrow. however, I am wondering about the strictness of the diet that is involved. I've tried every diet out there and since deciding to get healthy in 2010, I've lost and gained back nearly 100lbs. I know that I eat of out boredom or emotional eating. I am certian the lap band surgery isn't going to fix that...Is the LBS going to prevent me from that kind of eating because it won't fit? I know there is no true short cuts to weight loss, but I feel like I've been so unsuccessful in the past, how is LBS going to change that? Any advice would be great! thank you!

THank you all SO much for your responses. I'm having some issues navigating this site, so I apologize for the delay! But I've read all the responses..they're great! I did see my doctor and she pointed me in the direction of an information session I can attend...so I guess that's my first step. I'm very excited! thank you all again! this is a great forum

Need Advice....in the decision stages...
flipper72 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone, I'm not sure how to post just yet...i'm very new. I'm in the planning and decision making stage and am curious what the level of actual dieting is involved with the lap band surgery. I'm motivated, but I've had so many successes followed by so many failures - meaning, gaining all the weight back, that I'm scared I'll get this surgery and it won't work. How did all of you prepare for surgery and keep weight off? -
I think I posted this in the wrong forum before..sorry, i'm new Hi everyone - I'm very new here and haven't even talked to my doctor yet about possible surgery. Thinking of LBS - help...
flipper72 replied to flipper72's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you so much! I really appreciate you taking the time to respond. It's great advice. I do understand that emotional eating can't be fixed with WLS, the idea that I will only be able to eat so much is what attracted me to this procedure. I have never heard of plication....very interesting. I've ruled out any kind of bypass because I don't want to have something so drastic and irreversible. I've also heard some horror stories. I will be going to the doctors tomorrow to talk with my doctor and may have more questions. lots more..haha! thanks again! xo
