My success pics/mini story
lirpastar replied to princessheather's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Awesome job! Thanks for posting this information. It has motivated me to try harder. Can you tell how you fit so much exercise in daily? I struggle to get 30-50 min 3x per week. I work full time and have 2 young children. I tend to use that as an excuse more than I should, but I'd love to hear your suggestions on fitting more in. -
Diverticulitis - anyone suffer from this?
lirpastar replied to ccjll's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've had diverticulitis. It was last year, before I was banded. I don't remember the side pain until after I found out what it was. The worst pain for me was the gas it caused, I'm guessing from being so swollen it was trapped. It was my entire abdomen. More so on my right side, which is weird since the colon is on the left, but anyways I went to the er because I thought I was having appendicitis. I was shocked to find out after a ct scan that it was diverticulitis. They gave me 2 Iv antibiotics and a prescription for 10 days of the same at home. (Cipro and flagyl (sp?)) and liquid diet for a few days then graduating to soft then regular. The next day was when I felt it on my left side. It lasted a few days, but it was more of a dull achey pain. My dad and my grandma also have diverticulosis. (The pockets without infections) My dad has to do the antibiotics a few times per year from getting diverticulitis but my grandma hasn't gotten an infection, she just changes her diet when it feels different in that area. I was referred to a colorectal surgeon because of my age. Apparently it's not very good to get it under the age of 50. He didn't recommend surgery since I only had it the one time and it cleared up with the antibiotics. Most drs will say you have to avoid nuts/seeds but he said the latest research shows as long as you stay regular you can eat anything. I've followed that advice and haven't had any problems since last June. I think a stomach virus I had 3 weeks prior was the biggest culprit and he agreed. I couldn't get regular after that. Alternated constipation and diarrhea. Good luck. Be careful with that. It can get bad quick. -
Glad they caught it! How are you feeling today?

How is everyone? I'm finally feeling pretty good. I'm in the "full liquid" phase through Wednesday, then I get to start puréed. I surely wasn't expecting such a drastic weight loss this early on. I've lost 13 lbs since my preop appt on 12/3. I hope I can keep it off as I progress to real food. I weighed 287 when I started this process in May, now I'm down to 245. I haven't been this "little" since 2006. Exciting times!

Up to ten per year were included in the cost of my band. (For life). The first fill is done by the surgeon and the others are at the bariatric center with a nurse practitioner.

I have the glue too and mine is itching as well. Doc said leave alone and let it fall off on its own. Aggravating....

Good morning. Does anyone know if the liquid part of egg drop soup is considered clear liquid?

Awesome! Thanks for sharing.

Good luck! I had my surgery yesterday. Incisions are pretty sore, and the gas was bad yesterday, but it's mostly just in my neck now. Just been relaxing in the recliner sipping Gatorade 2 and broth and walking around the house every hour or so. Weight at beginning of this process 284 Weight at preop - 257

sorry didn't finish. Anyways I had to do a two week sugar busters diet. Hasn't been too bad. I've lost 7 lbs. Went for my preop appt today. I'm pretty excited. I thought I'd be more nervous as I've had anxiety issues in the past, but so far just excitement. The lady in hospital registration said I'm so excited for you, you're going to be so cute at the end. Well your cute now but I just can't imagine after. Lol the things people say. -

I get banded in 12/5. Luckily I didn't have to go a liquid preop diet. -

My date is 12-5. I'm nervous and excited as well. I start my preop diet (sugar busters) on 11/21. I started this process at 280, now at 265. Can't wait til this time next year to see how far we've come.
