    Happy Father's Day! 2014

Happy Fathers Day to you Alex, and to all Fathers, Grand Fathers, Step Fathers, and Single Moms out there!

    Banded on June 3rd

Glad to hear you're feeling better. I have surgery June 3rd as well and as you did had problems swallowing. Unfortunately, to the extent that I was hospitalized for 3 days and nights for dehydration. My stoma really swelled up post op and nothing was getting through. They also had me on steroid anti-inflammatory meds for the swelling. I was only allowed ice chips for most of the time I was there. I am home and back to work now and feeling good finally. I still get tired easily and have some pain towards the end of the day near the port site, but it is manageable. Hang in there and wishing you success!

    My new beginning starts today!

I'm almost 2 weeks out and was having some pains that start towards the end of the day, around 3:00PM. I know that you'll start feeling human again, but we had major surgery and it will take time for our bodies to catch up. I had some extra issues, so I'm a bit behind. I was suffering from severe edema after my hospital stay, and was struggling a bit when I went back to work last week (only for 2 days). I spent all this weekend with my feet elevated and drank tons of water and tea, and it has done wonders. I have lost the 11 lbs for water weight from my hospital stay and have lost about 4 lbs since day of surgery. I am feeling human again! I still get tired quickly when I walk a long distance, and feel like I need a nap her and there during the day. but all-in-all, I am seeing a difference and now am starting to focus on my diet. I am starting soft foods on Monday, yay! I hope you all are doing well!

    Banded June 4th

Banded June 3rd! Delayed about 1 week due to the band restriction right from the start. Had too much swelling post op and couldn't keep any liquids down. Hospitalized for 3 nights and 3 days on IV for dehydration and steroids for inflammation. Came home June 9 to start Clear Liquids again. Had my 1 week post op appt today and they said I can move to full liquids and then maybe by Monday I can finally start soft foods-mushies. I gained about 11 lbs since day of surgery from the IV fluids, I am super swollen everywhere. Anyway, I am good to go now and over that road block. Looking forward to eating/living with the band. Welcome to all Juners!

    My new beginning starts today!

Very nice plopez! Let er rip! Hahaha! Thanks you guys for keeping me upbeat. I have had some small gas pain in the left shoulder area, but right now I'm struggling more with the 10 lbs of Water weight gain from the IV fluuds. My skin feels foreign to me and I think it is also messing with my vision...it could also be residual from the steroids they had me on. Anyway, don't feel quite like myself yet. I'm glad to hear you two are doing well. Plopez, I am dreaming of those mashed potatoes....

    My new beginning starts today!

Yep, I'm home! I know how you feel. I am now delayed my soft foods by 4 days! I'm dreaming of scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes, and clean of wheat. I have my 1 week post op tomorrow, I hope they let me start on full liquids...These clear liquids are killing me. My tummy is not a happy camper, it's screaming for real food! LOL!!! Hope you are doing well besides that.

    My new beginning starts today!

Yes, you'll drop the nervousness and get excited! I'm on liquids, broth, decaf tea with stevia, Popsicles, jello, water. I also am trying to drink 4 oz of protein drink; isopure and they said I can have the protein shakes if I can tolerate them. I'm stuck on clears until Wednesday and then I will find out where to go from there when I go to my post op appt that day.

    My new beginning starts today!

Hey Junebuggy2004, glad to hear you're on the mend! Very good on keeping up on the walking. I had to tell the nurse that I needed to walk...not just to move but because I was going stir crazy (was just day 1 here). Since then, I just get up and go without telling anyone. These days are dragging here in the hospital. There is talk about going home either today or tomorrow...I am hoping for today. I've been keeping down the liquids well and feel really good, crossing my fingers. Junebuggy and Ms Lopez; you ladies have been such a great support this last couple of weeks, so glad to have you both as my buddies! Take care of yourselves!

    My new beginning starts today!

Oh Junebug36, I am hanging in there! They are slowly starting me on clear liquids again and I hope to go home today. Don't you worry about a thing! It was easy as pie. My situation was rare. My Dr's NP came to talk to me today and she explained better to me what happened. My surgeon uses only lap band and there are 2 sizes large and small. They will make the decision during surgery which to use. They tried the large and it was way too loose. They used the small and it was perfectly snug...until the post op swelling ensued. I am in good hands and I may not have to suffer through too much of the "bandster hell" everyone talks about! Dr said that when this happens he usually sees good results and his patients may require less fills. Bright side! You take care of yourself and let us know how you're doing. You'll do great, my dear!

    I've lost the equivalent of.....

Way to go, JustWatchMe! Fun game...however, I am cheating. I lost 29 lbs pre-surgery, and that's all I'm counting right now. I was banded on Tuesday June 3rd and have been hospitalized since Friday with only IV and Ice chips as I was so restricted that not even Water stayed down. I don't know my weight-loss since the band and if I weighed today it would be off due to the IV's Fluids I've been on...so I'll play along with the 29 lbs that I know is truly gone! I have lost the equivalent of 3/4 of my 5 year old son who weighs 40 lbs.

    Goal weight met!

Congratulations! You're beautiful, and don't you forget it. Give yourself a big hug for all the hard work you put in. You shout it out, GIRL!
  14. Jim, I applaud you for taking the time to share your story. It really is helpful to know that other people have been in similar situations. I am just shy of a week in from having lap band and am having so much restriction that I've been hospitalized for dehydration. I am asking myself that question, "What was I thinking?" But I know this is just a little bump in the road and I will go forward successfully, I am the only one that can make it happen. You truly are an inspiration and I'm so happy that you took the steps to change your life for the better. Thank you for paying it forward!

    Just got approval!

    Congratulations!

    Banded Today!

Congratulations! It's crazy how just a little bit of weight lost, it makes such a big difference. I'm glad you're reaping the benefits so quickly. Way to go! Keep up the good work.

    Banded Today!

    How are you doing!

    My new beginning starts today!

Awe, thanks plopez! I am just working these nurses tails off....NOT!!! I'm probably one of the easiest patients they've had. I can take a walk all by myself with my IV stand and grab some ice chips, and they just refill meds I need. I'm easy, (don't let it get around) LOL!! JK How are you and junebuggy2004 doing from your surgeries yesterday?
  21. Weeviegurl

    My new beginning starts today!

@Junebug36 No fills, this was from the original band placement on Tuesday. No Fluid added at time of placement. Dr. tried to remove any trapped air via port site, felt good for a bit, but still too restricted...at least I know what THAT feels like for future reference!
  22. Weeviegurl

    My new beginning starts today!

Having some issues with my band being too tight, have not been able to keep any liquids down. In the hospital on anti-inflammatory meds for swelling, and IVs for dehydration. The fluoroscopy taken yesterday shows the band has not slipped, but there is barely a trickle of fluids being passed through. So this is the second step, if it doesn't work, there may have to be a revision. Still in the game, just need to some good vibes sent this way! Thanks you guys. Hope you are all doing well and on your way to success!
  23. I had Lap Band surgery June 3rd and the surgery itself went very well. I was able to come home the same day and had started on very little liquids. My surgeon and his team have provided patients with a Lap Band “Bible” of everything regarding the surgery start to finish. I started logging the following day the liquids I was taking in and followed the example to a “T.” By the 3rd hour, I was having this very bad gas bubble in my chest and was salivating profusely. It was gross. I did throw up the saliva “foam” several times while trying to take more liquids in, but ended up calling my Dr. the next day and went into his office. He tried to take any possible Fluid that was in the band and air out via the port and I felt noticeably better. After that, he had me stay and drink 2 small cups of Water and since I felt better and kept it down; was allowed to go back home. About 20 minutes after arriving home, I started vomiting again and had that horrible blocked/bubble feeling in my chest/esophagus. I tried taking small amounts of liquids again for several hours and was worried about dehydration; I ended up calling the Dr. again and was directed to the ER. I was at in the ER for about 3 hours with IV, Potassium, a Steroidal anti-inflammatory. I was watching my son drink his water I had brought him as I knew we would be gone from the house awhile, and I kept looking at it DROOLING! It looked so refreshing. I love my water, always have. I still was unable to keep down 2 very small sips of water. I was then sent for a barium swallow/fluoroscopy…Why it is that I could keep that yucky crap down is beyond me. Anyway, they found that the band had NOT slipped, but there was barely a trickled of fluids getting through my stoma to my stomach. They kept me overnight, and gave me 4 more rounds of potassium and I am still a bit dehydrated. My Dr. saw me this morning and wants me to stay another day or so to administer anti-inflammatory meds for the swelling around my band. I am able to have ice chips. ALL I WANT IS A HUGE CRYSTAL CLEAR DRINK OF WATER!!!!! ARGH!!! So at this point, my Dr. tells me that his few patients that have had this issue in the beginning; tend to do better and require less fills. Just taking it one step at a time. My incision cites are healing well and I have not had a lot of pain, which is good, because I couldn’t keep down the anti-nausea and pain meds in the first place. I think that in 6 weeks when I should be getting my first fill, I may wait, or hesitate…we’ll see. Today was supposed to be day 5 of which I was to start on my full liquids, I’m bummed I’m so far behind. I will keep you all updated on how I’m progressing. As I said, it is a small road block that no one could have foreseen, but it has set me back several days and is also making me use up more of my vacation time from work. Please, let me know how ya’ll are doing.
  24. Thanks MarvyMimi! You just never know when these things are going to happen. Dr. Snyder and his team has been the best anyone could ask for. Not to mention the Bariatric portion of the hospital in which I'm staying, and the ER. I'm writing A+ survey cards for each person I have been in contact with. I think that my body just reacted adversely to the size of band he chose during surgery. I don't want to scare anyone away from making a decision. I am not in any pain, just can't eat anything but ice chips, and my tummy is growling like crazy. It's easy to overcome though because at the hospital, I have nothing to tempt me...well except when I take a walk down the hall where the Snacks are....Hahaha!!! I've been good. I'm glad to have someone else in the area, and hope to meet you at one of the Post-op classes. Keep in touch.
