Love my lapband

Just wanted to share that I am now 2 1/2 months out from having my lapband surgery, and 3+ weeks out from my second fill. I am doing great and have lost 37 lb since surgery. However, I note that I really can't drink fluids while eating, since that washes things through the opening. I also can hold much more food in the evening than I can earlier in the day. Apparently that's typical. I would highly recommend this procedure.

Am I the only bandster not losing?

The reservoir on most bands is anywhere from 10 to 14 cc. The volume of your first fill is unlikely to be producing much effect. Most have to have at least 7 cc.

For those who had a sleep study:

My surgeon required a sleep study, to avoid possible apnea after surgery (when taking narcotics). It revealed I have sleep apnea. The sleep center doctor sent a report to my surgeon.

    Lap-band vs. Bypass? HELP!

I am a physician, and I had a lap-band procedure 4+ weeks ago. Just had my first fill and doing great. I would never have a gastric bypass procedure. It causes you to have malabsorption and other serious problems. That's why you have to take multiple supplements, and why so many bypass patients get protein deficiency. Every physician I know who has had bariatric surgery has had a lapband and would never have a gastric bypass. That should tell you something. You will do just fine with a lapband if you devote yourself to the program. You will also avoid many bad side effects. Good luck

    hanging in there

Well, I'm 11 days postop now. Doing well except I notice that my appetite is nearly the same as preop. I guess I have to wait a month until my first fill. I am dieting though and have lost over 10 lb so far. Yet I feel hungry much of the time. Can't wait for the first fill. How have others coped with this time before the fills begin?
  6.
I was banded two days ago. I haven't had much in the way of pain when lying still, but it's been miserable to get out of bed, and yesterday my abdominal muscles went into spasm when I did that, very painful. I have found that a combination of ibuprofen (such as Advil) and acetaminophen (such as Tylenol) work better for my pain than an oral narcotic. The tenderness is a lot less today than it was yesterday. I plan to go to work in another 4 days.

Steve

    Being Banded Tomorrow!

Well, I'm having my lapband tomorrow morning. I guess I need to get something for gas? What would that be exactly? I'm nervous, but ready. Steve:phanvan
  8. I just turned 60 and will have my lapband in 4 weeks. I'm a bit anxious about all this, but I realize that weight loss is key to enjoying the rest of my life. Steve
  9. I plan to have the LapBand surgery soon, but am worried about tolerating all the dietary restrictions. Someone said I had to peel fruit and vegetables to eliminate their skins. That worries me, because those skins have cancer-fighting chemicals in them. Is that true? What about other restrictions?
