I was totally addicted to carbs. It was so bad that I could eat a pound of jelly Beans in an hour or tackle half a dozen donuts without a problem, except for the weight of course. My carb cravings caused many problems from back pain to acne, from weight gain to shortness of breath, not to leave out embarrassment when I realized that I had just emptied my host's candy dish or cookie tray all by myself. I got lucky and found a solution by changing my lifestyle. I'd like to hear from others about what they have done not to just conquer carb cravings, but to break the addiction. What did you do and how did it work? Hugh

HSH, that's great news. Sounds like you're doing fine. Keep with the program.

Jachut, so true, to quit the carb addiction cold turkey is HARD! For me, I didn't play favorites; cakes, Cookies, donuts, chips, crackers, candy, chocolate - I can eat lots of all of them. Luckily, I found out about low GI foods and it's made all the difference since I don't have the physical cravings. Although it's now a head game, I too have to stay away from them. My wife bought a small brownie cake for my birthday last week and I was able to limit myself one little piece, but we got rid of the rest so the temptation was gone! PS Congrats on getting below your target. Huggy

HELP>>>NO WEIGHT COMING OFF????? Questions..
HuggyBear replied to Hip's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hip, I'm sure it's more than frustrating. One thing I do is to weigh myself just after I get up so the circumstances are the same from day to day. Are you still on liquids? What are you eating/drinking? For myself, I've found that it is critical. In the beginning, I had to reset my metabolism and now as long as I eat the right things (& avoid the wrong ones), exercise and take my nutritional supplements my weight continues dropping. This is without the hunger and cravings I used to have when I dieted. Huggy -
lfm, good luck with your pre-op diet and surgery. I've found shakes that I really like the taste of and am happy with the weight I've lost. They are Nutrimeal from USANA and come in chocolate, vanilla and strawberry. They're not just Protein shakes, but a complete Meal Replacement. One does replace a meal and I'm not hungry after one, but I had to reset my body to a healthier lifestyle in the beginning. Huggy

Mom of 4, I don't know if this will help, but I've been drinking shakes that are pretty tasty. I was totally addicted to carbs and using them, I was able to get off the addiction and really get on the weight loss track. Their flavors are chocolate, vanilla and strawberry. They also have a Protein powder that I added because I needed the extra protein. What I did was not a straight liquid diet, but for starters was 3 Meal Replacement shakes and 2 snack bars in between. The key for me is that they don't set off my carb cravings.

HuggyBear replied to Loser75's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Dear Loser75, Since you're so close to your goal weight and you've probably developed some good lifestyle habits over the years, do you think you could use those skills to keep the weight off? I lost weight by making some lifestyle changes over the past year+ and by continuing with the new lifestyle, I've kept it off. Also, I continue to lose a little bit each month as I near my goal. Hugh
