Thanks Sue! It's taken me a long time to get here, but it's great! I was banded in July, like you, but see that you have lost a lot more weight than I have...CONGRATS to you! I didn't really feel any different...just proud of myself for finally getting here. GOOD LUCK to you!

I did it! I made it to ONE-der-land this morning...199.6!! First time I've seen that one in the hundreds place in 16 1/2 years.
-
I've tried eating fish the last two Fridays...due to Lent...and find that I just can't do it. After one or two small bites I'm feeling 'stuck!' Anyone else have problems eating fish?
-
The cajun one is delicious, too!
-
I can't wait to be there either! It's been 16 1/2 years since I've seen onederland!:cursing: Hopefully I'll get there in less than 16 days now!

Were you required to lose weight before surgery? How much?
KYteacher replied to Sue40's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wasn't given a specific amount to lose before surgery. I was only put on a special diet to shrink my liver. This is the first I've even heard of anyone requiring a certain amount of weight loss before the surgery! I thought that is why we needed lapband. If I could lose weight on my own I wouldn't need the band! GOOD LUCK! -
Do you think there is discrimination against obese people?
KYteacher replied to milton5a's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
While working at a bank a customer called and needed to speak to the woman who had helped her earlier in the day while she was in the bank. She couldn't remember the name of the teller, but stated, "it was the heavy-set one." I said, "Oh, well that would be me." She went on with her business without an apology...as if that was an appropriate way to refer to someone helping them! :tt1: -
Hi fellow 40s! I will be 44 in February. I'll be celebrating my band birthday on July 2nd, though! I weigh less now than I have in 16 years! I think the 40s are going to be better than 30s...can't get any worse where the weight is concerned...I hope not anyways! Good luck to my fellow FABULOUS FIT 40s!

I wasn't given a choice either. Mine is right about my belly button. The only time it bothers me is leaning over into the washer getting out clothes...just have to remember now!

Tortilla crusted tilapia from Market Day is wonderful!:hungry:

Pre-Op negative feedback from friends.....
KYteacher replied to KarenH's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I heard the same remarks. I don't think mine were negatively intended, I just think they were trying to have my best interest at heart. WLS is a serious step and not to be taken lightly. I didn't take it lightly I researched for two years, but some people didn't realize that. Try to remember they only care about you. You do what you feel is best for you. -
Most insurance companies will consider WLS with two other health issues with a BMI of 35 to 40. KEEP FIGHTING! I was denied the first time, but approved the second. I had a few bouts with high blood pressure...nothing serious, but I really pushed that issue. Write letters to your insurance company and have your doctor do the same. The bariatric office I went to really stood up and fought for me to have it done! I know it was a money thing for them, but hey...I got my lapband done!

Pain in Left Side Help!!
KYteacher replied to Kristin1031's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've never had the pain on the left side, but you DEFINITELY need to have it checked out...I'm glad you have an appointment tomorrow! Since my surgery I've had pain in my lower right side. I'm going to mention it at my next appointment, but wondered if anyone else had this?!?! -
Is this really right for me?
KYteacher replied to ImaStar's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Dear ImaStar...everything TerriDoodle says is right! You will be able to sleep, eat out, and sing! I had a little discomfort after surgery while trying to sleep, but after the initial soreness passed I've slept however I wanted!:notagree There is not a single food that I have had to quit eating. Sometimes I have trouble with some foods making me feel yucky, but then try I just try it again another day and it goes down fine.:hungry: I do not feel deprived. It is one of the best things that I have done for myself!:whoo: I don't think you are going through a mid-life crisis...you just understand the importance of taking better care of yourself with age! You are smart to weigh all the pros and cons and to question all your concerns! I did and then found the answers. I have no regrets! And remember...NOTHING tastes as good as thin feels! GOOD LUCK! -
Sometimes I get "aggressive hiccups," too. Why is that? What causes them?

What is your current fill in your 4cc band?
KYteacher replied to Paulax's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
"I am at a stand still with weight loss this week, but I am praying that I am just compacting." What does "compacting" mean? I was banded July 2nd and only lost 15 pounds during pre surgery and 6 weeks post surgery. I have a 4cc band and had my first fill 3 weeks ago. The Dr. said he put in 3cc. I have only lost 2 pounds since then. I'm eating LOTS of food...I even ate a 6" chicken salad sub sandwich from Subway. Do I need to call and get another fill before my 6 week scheduled appointment or should I just wait? I see that some people say it takes several fills to hit the "sweet spot." Starting to feel frustrated! -

KYteacher replied to HeatherJones's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yes, the whole address. -
It depends on your insurance carrier. My insurance wouldn't cover the procedure last year, but then changed their policy in January to cover it this year. It would cover gastric bypass but that wasn't what I wanted so I waited hoping their policy would change and it did! :whoo: I didn't have to go through months of supervised diet, but friends of mine who were banded within a week of me did...they had different insurance carriers. My insurance approved within 4 1/2 weeks of my request and I didn't have hypertension or sleep apnea or any other medically documented condition other than having a BMI over 40. Don't give up! GOOD LUCK!

The scale is not moving! Has anyone else had this happpen?
KYteacher replied to HeatherJones's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm coming up on week 4 and having the same problem...a little fluctuation, but I'm not losing! I lost 15 pounds starting the week before and during the first two weeks after surgery, but none since then...just up and down a few pounds. I'm slowly eating more, but feel like I'm eating sensibly and exercising. I just hope after my first fill, Aug. 10th, I will start losing more! -
