Do you use liquid Motrin (Ibuprofen)?
madfroglady replied to TerriDoodle's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I do the liquid-gels too. It's the only thing that touches my headaches before they blossom into migraines and I really get in trouble. THe adult strength liquid Tylenol (acetaminophen in the US, paracetomal in the UK) tastes HORRIBLE. I literally gag on it and have to fight like hell not to vomit after taking it. But it was the only thing I was allowed right after my surgery. (other than codeine tablets that made me rea-a-a-lly loopy.) Ugh. no fun. THat reminds me I should chuck the rest of that bottle in the cabinet. the mad frog -
Were you intubated during surgery
madfroglady replied to jennypoo's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm with Shannon: they tell me I had it but I don't remember it and had just a tickle of a sore throat. I'm preference would be to do it for the safety factor. the mad frog. -
Mine's not too bad. I was banded 8/14 and was on liquids until last friday (8/24). No hunger up to that point. So after 4 days on mushies, I definitely have times when I am starting to "feel empty"/think I'm hungry but can't really tell. I can only eat about 1/2-1 cup of mushies before I am FULL. (like I have to burp and can't. sorry a bit TMI.) I have had an evening "snack" at times (one of my old bad habits that I am trying to break.) but have been good about keeping to the texture portion of my recovery. Whew. Mantra: One battle at a time. It took me 30 years to get to 250+ pounds: I'm not going to be able to reverse those habits overnight. I just have to keep trying. My first fill is 9/14, exactly one month after my surgery. I'm looking forward to it. the mad frog lady.

I'm not HUNGRY, but I am getting a little BORED...
madfroglady replied to NanaRenan's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Right there with you again. :phanvan I ate a bowl of cheese soup today. (An old fav from my days in Wisconsin.) About an hour later I took the dog to the dog park when my .... ummm.... Lower digestive tract ... decided that I had not had anything that thick or fatty in weeks. And of course there is no bathroom at the dog park. I barely made it home in time. Very scary and I still feel sick. :sick As for the name, it's because I am mad (as in crazy) about frogs, not mad (as in angry) at frogs. I love 'em. I have them all over my house. I even have a French Bulldog which are often called Frog Dogs because they look like frogs/toads. the mad frog lady. -
I'm not HUNGRY, but I am getting a little BORED...
madfroglady replied to NanaRenan's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Nana -- I was banded the same day as you and am facing the same boredom. Luckily my doc is a bit more liberal with the full liquids: anything thin enough to go through a straw, but no chunks. You can maybe call your doc and see if he/she can loosen up the restrictions a bit? Yesterday I tried mixing not-fat plain yogurt with fruit juice to make a kind of smoothie. It was much more interesting to drink than the Protein shakes. the mad frog lady. -
New post-ops.....what are you eating/drinking?
madfroglady replied to JudiM's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm 5 days post op and just made the transition from clear liquids to full liquids. Not in a huge rush though. So far, I put a little skim milk in my morning tea and made some "instant" cream of potato Soup. (1/2 cup skim milk, 1 teaspoon butter, salt & pepper. Heat to almost boiling. Add instant potato flakes until soup is the proper consistency.) It was heavenly and very filling. I'm thinking about some canned cream of mushroom soup for dinner. As far as the clear liquids go, I was having a really tough time because nothing was appealing to me. So I just drank Water. Last night I drank some watered apple juice (which I keep in the house for the kids) which I usually hate. But it tasted so good, I know that my body was craving something in there. I think it was just the calories. I feel much better and more energetic today. The mad frog -
I'm home. I was in the hospital abuot 30 hours all told. Partially because my surgery was late in the day yesterday, and then I got nauseous and vomitted this morning. (That was even with the anti-nausea mad they put on the path behind you ear.) So they gave me some more anti-nausea drugs in my IV and that did the trick. Reminder to those who will have to spend the night: bring earplugs. I'm not the lightest sleeper but the strange sounds and noises definitely would have kept me awake without them. Still I had to get up to pee evry few hours thanks to the IV. Glad that part is over with. The mad frog.

Getting used to losing - permanently
madfroglady replied to homew6kids's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm right there with ya. the "this time" is definitely implied. Or when they say "So-and-so had that surgery and she gained it all back a year later." Puh-lease!! Can these people not be supportive!?! Morons!! Sigh. That's why I come here for extra support.:biggrin1: Madfroglady. -
Weight Lost on Liquids...
madfroglady replied to PigsRFlying's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I believe the liquids also encourage your stomach to shrink from disuse. so X calories of liquids will shrink your stomach more than X calories of solids because your stomach has to work on digesting the solids. Madfroglady -

You're not the only one: I'm on medifast for a total of 4.5 weeks. At this point I'm 3 weeks down and 1.5 to go. I'm HUNGRY!!! at times. (To be expected at 300-400 calories per day.) I have had 2 off-diet (I refuse to say cheat) items this week: 1 grape tomoato and 1 cucumber. This is a huge NSV for me as previously I've never stuck to a diet before. This is different: it's not a diet, it's a choice to make a lifestyle change. The next week is going to be really challenging. I'm spending Saturday with my folks all of who will be asking why I am not eating. Sunday night I leave for a business meetin out of town where there will be tons of food constantly. Then after I come back, my sister is visiting. she is supersize and last we talked very threatened by my choice. (She is 50+ lbs bigger than I am and she's (rightfully) afraid that the family will say if I can do it, why can't she.) She and I are close so I hope that we can see this through. Wish me luck! -
1 week pre-op diet/ help starving
madfroglady replied to tesma's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Right there with ya! I have to do 4.5 weeks of pre-op diet. (My doc is very conservative.) 2.5 weeks down and 2 weeks left to go. Unfortunately it has not gotten much easier for me. I go from "hungry" to "gnawing my arm off I am so hungry" but that's it. One thing that helped me a little was a cup of chicken broth. it's not on my diet but it seems to help with the hunger so I have one a day. I make it from that instant boulion stuff so it is only 5 calories, but it makes a nice change of pace from my Medifast. I also mix the Medifast with my (black) coffee in the morning. Not bad. Someone also told me to mix orange extract with the vanilla kind though I haven't tried it yet. My nutritionist told me that 1 cup of green leaf lettuce has 5 calories. Hope this helps. -
Going for Psychological testing tomorrow!!
madfroglady replied to Sooverit!'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is only my vent. I'm sure most psyche evals are worthwhile and in depth. My psych eval was a total joke. I had to go to their person rather than the one who I have been seeing for months. He basically filled out a few blanks on his form. He asked me what physical complaints I had from obesity. When I said none, he pushed the point until I said well my ankles bother me sometimes. he said good, I'll tell them that's why you want the surgery. Everything was very superficial and geared toward him writing the clearance letter rather than finding out if I was mentally ok for this. I was really annoyed. It felt like a waste of time. And if G-d forbid, someone really had mental issues, this guy never would have caught it. So your mileage may vary... -
I've been looking into the band for over 2 years, but what really did it for me was when I hurt my foot in Decmber. A minor injury that should have healed quickly turned into plantar fasciitis in both feet (second one got injured limping from the first one) which made me want to scream in pain every time I took a step. Scary!! It took 6 months to start getting some relief and now 8.5 months later, I can mostly walk again. Plus my 3 year old (the one with the devil's own gleam in his eye) can out run me. This is NOT a good thing. I need to be able to run as fast as my kids. (Hmmm. wonder if I could make a ticker for that?) Band date: 8/14

August '07 -- Compare pre-op diets
madfroglady replied to Alexandra's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Man oh man my docs must be strict. I have to do 4.5 weeks of liquid diet. first 9 days I could have 4 oz of lean Protein and 1.5 cups green veggies per day plus 4 medifast shakes. Now for the last 3 weeks, all I can have is 5 medifast shakes per day. No food and no diet beverages at all. Whew! I know I can do it, but it is tough! (Let's face it folks, I didn't get to 250+ by liking to be HUNGRY!!!) I lost 10 pounds in the first 9 days. The hardest parts are cooking/fixing meals for my kids and DH, plus I have 2 conferences between now and then where I am going to be out of town. I'm planning on going off it twice this week: one salad and one small meal. But otherwise, that's it. The madfroglady. Banding on 8/14/07 -
