    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Oh yes, one tip I learned...stay in the hospital AS LONG AS YOU CAN! If you can stay 2 or 3 days then I definitely would. They have all the meds and equipment that you could need and by the time you leave you'll know if how you're feeling is normal instead of being at home and coming into the emergency room for every air bubble. I know it's boring (my room didn't even have a tv!) and you have kids or a life you want to hurry and get back to, but I'd definitely recommend it.

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

UPDATE: I'm officially 7 days post op today and feeling great!!! Really! I can't lie, the day I woke up from surgery in the hospital (last Wed) I felt like I had been hit by a bus! It was really bad, but they got my pain under control immediately. Was in the hospital for 2 days. The nausea was the worst part for me. But as long as they gave me zofram for nausea I was ok. By the day I left the hospital I was feeling good. I'm still on pain med & anti-nausea meds but I'm just sore, and I think that's more from doing stuff around the house. Mornings I'm a little more sore than other times of day. I'm able to puree veggies and put them in my broth now which is a fabulous treat, lol! I find that I really have to chew things down to mush or it does feel like a hard bubble trying to down and I've realized what my "full" feeling feels like, so I'm learning to listen to my body. Best part...I'm down 10lbs.6oz! I couldn't believe my scale this morning so I kept weighing myself over and over and it's definitely on track. I feel great! Can't wait to eat regular food again (healthy food!). I'm using this as a reset button on life. I've been given a "do over" and am now learning how to eat again, but the right way. I also can't believe the energy I have. So far having the surgery seems like the best decision I've ever made. Like a huge dark cloud that was hanging over my head has broken apart and is flying away. Best of luck to those awaiting their independence day!

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Hi. I just found out about this thread:-) Surgery is 11 Dec (Wednesday). So excited! On day 3 pre-op and the headache has finally stopped. Feel pretty weak though, otherwise, I'm so ready to get this over with!

    Omg! Head Hunger!

I'm also day 3 pre-op! Surgery is scheduled for Wed Dec 11 (I think I said the 13th on another forum here but I was confused what date Wednesday was, lol!) - I'll blame that on the hunger pains and light headedness. I also am not allowed to eat anything solid (or solid pureed, i tried, lol!) and it's so hard! Today was better than the 1st day though. I said screw it and had a salad with olive oil & balsamic vinegar for dinner because it's so hard for me to cook and smell the food that I'm cooking and see it and just watch the kids and my hubs eat it. I've also had pretty severe headaches on day 1 and day 2, but that luckily seems to have subsided. I've been adding onion powder to my beef broth so it tastes like french onion soup, that's helped and I'm not focusing on calories. I figure if I'm starving myself and only eating liquids I'll drink as much as I want of them. Luckily that's only been about 3-4 a day so far (Atkins). Well, good luck to everyone! I'll keep you guys posted!
  5. I've only shared my surgery decision with a handful of close family members/friends & I don't want them to be worried so I don't talk about it around them much, so I'm so grateful to have a private group to share the good news that I officially started my pre-op diet today and am 7 days pre-op! My surgery is scheduled for 13 Dec. I had labs drawn yesterday morning, met with the surgeon and did admissions paper work at the hospital today, and am meeting with the nutritionist for a 2 hour "what to expect" appointment on Monday the 9th then surgery on Wednesday! I'm so excited I want these next few days to FLY by! I must admit though that I can already tell the pre-op liquid diet is going to be harder than I had thought. I'm almost done with day 1 and I feel like I'm light headed and starving (even though I'm not!). It's going to be hard to do this for 7 days because we're getting a winter storm over the weekend which means I'm trapped in the house with my husband, and 2 boys (age 15 & 8) and that's all they do is eat, but I'm committed! Any liquid diet recipes/tips other than broth? I can tell that's going to get old real quick lol!
  6. Thank you! I'm having mine on the 13th (next Wednesday) and am so excited! How are you feeling? We have the same start weight and goal weight! I'm on day 2 of my pre op diet and having a bad headache. Any suggestions as my doc said no medicine before surgery...
  7. Thank you all! And AtlantaRed, I'd definitely like to join the group if possible. Can you send me a link? Thank you!!!!
  8. Might be a silly question, but I had my gall bladder removed via laproscopy (the 5 incisions) about 8 years ago and still have the scars from that. I would like to hear from anyone else who had gall bladder surgery then plication for a few reasons, 1. can they go over the same incision sites (scars) or will they make new ones? 2. Can they even make new ones, or would this block me from being able to get the surgery, 3. If you've had your gall bladder removed then you know about those times after you eat a particularly greasy meal and have to make a mad dash for the bathroom....is that going to be even worse after the surgery? Thank you in advance for any answers:-)
  9. Hi. I'm new here. At a doctor's appointment a couple of weeks ago I discussed my weight concern with my doctor. I had been working out regularly (usually 5 days a week; 3 days of cardio, 2 days weight training) and eating fairly healthy for about the last year and a half and lost 35lbs. However, the weight loss stopped about 6 months ago and has not restarted, in fact, my weight has started going back up. I'm 35y/o and have had it. My doctor suggested gastric plication. He's very excited about the results he's had in other patients. I do not meet the weight requirements (I'm under the limit by 45lbs for my height) but have a co-morbidity (sleep apnea) so my insurance is going to cover it 100%. I'm looking for information as to what to expect to lead up to the surgery, ie: I've heard there's a few therapy appointments you must attend, a pre op diet, etc. What does the diet consist of, what do they discuss with you at the therapist appointment, how much weight have others lost in the first few weeks, what's the recovery like, any complications? Basically everything I can find out about this procedure because I'm terrified to have the surgery. Any info will be appreciated.

    newbie (pre-op) here!

Thank you all so much! This has been some great info! I'm sure I'll have many more questions but this has answered alot. Great to hear this seems to be successful with most people. I'm going for a re-evaluation now for the the sleep apnea because my previous results were from a study done over 10 years ago so they need more up to date info, but assuming that all goes well my doc says we can start looking at dates. Anyone have any suggestions for the best times of year/days of weeks to get the surgery? My husband is active duty military and we live about 1500 miles away from family so I'm trying to arrange my care taker needs, etc.
