I am also two months out. I got my second fill today. My first fill I got 3cc's, and today they gave me another 3cc's and it was too tight-- i couldn't drink a cup of water- so they took out 1 cc. So now I am at 5. I was 300lbs at original consultation, and 280 by surgery date, and now 264. It seems that I am slower than most who post here. But it's coming. m.

First fill during surgery - NO NO NO
melanieinportla replied to nkcaump's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I had surgery Friday and my surgeon didn't do a swallow, she said she is confident the placement is good and prefers to do the first swallow at the time of the first fill. My fill appt is in a month. Melanie -

A lot of people work in helping professions! I am a social worker. I am a full time student working on my PhD in Social Work. I work as a research assistant on a few projects at the university and I teach as an adjunct in the counseling program at the local junior college.

My new AP Band
melanieinportla replied to WalterBrian's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am also having surgery with Dr Patterson in Portland on 10/10. Do you know if she is using the new AP band with all her patients now? I was going to see if I could request it. Have you had a fill yet? My husband got bandd about 2 weeks ago and he is filling no real restriction and like he needs a fill- same boat as you- looking forward to restriction. Good luck, m. -
My intro- being banded soon in Portland, OR
melanieinportla posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I went to my info session in about Feb, and did all the post-op work at Legacy Obesity Institute, and am on the road... had to lose 5% for insurance pre-surgery, and am going in tomorrow to verify my 5% loss. I have been researching band vs rny stuff for months and months and was feeling pretty confident about my band decision, for all the right reasons I think, and i am having a last-minute freak-out, thinking maybe the RNY feels more like a "sure bet" for eventual weight loss. I like most of the stuff I know about the band, but know there are those few people in either camp it doesn't work for, and part of my sicko-self would rather my failure be that I look pale and sickly and thin (a problem sometimes associated with RNY) than a band-slip and no weight loss or something. I know that's not a healthy way of thinking. I have been reading messages here off and on, and have found some real inspiration. Many thanks to those of you especially who are quite a ways out and still posting, I am kinda obsessed with long-term outcomes. (even though my Id wants totally fast results right now.
