I am considering having the lapband procedure with Dr. Change in Victoria, TX. Does anyone know what the price range is for self-pay patients? I had the lapband surgery last year in Houston & had to have it removed because of slippage after only six months. I'm ready to try again! sandy

I had lapband surgery in June, 2008, with no complications until yesterday. After eating I felt like something was stuck. I waited & waited but the pain is still there today--almost 24 hours later. It's intense pain in my upper back...any ideas? Have been throwing up also--even liquids.

Intense pain in upper back
SandyB replied to SandyB's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
By intense pain, I mean INTENSE pain with vomiting for +36 hours. Since my surgeon was 3 hrs away, I put off making the drive for a couple of days. When I got there & drank the barium, he ordered emergency surgery. The band had slipped into a vertical position (not too common). I had the choice to repair the band or remove it. I chose removal. -
I had my band removed last Friday. The incision area to remove the port continues to be achy & very uncomfortable. What was your recovery time? sandy b

I'm extremely concerned! I was banded on June 4. Now I've noticed that the lymph nodes at the base of my jaw are swollen & tender to touch & I have a white-coated tongue. Has anyone experienced these symptoms following banding?

Breast cancer reconstruction & lapband
SandyB replied to SandyB's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh! Thanks so much for your reply! I have been fretting because my lapband surgeon didn't seem overly concerned! Now I feel better...like getting a 2nd opinion! I'm schedule for banding on June 4 unless I have a nervous breakdown before! Good luck to you too! -
Breast cancer reconstruction & lapband

I had breast cancer with tram flap reconstruction 15 years ago. Am contemplating lapband. Anyone out there have a similar situation? -
:help: I'm a breast cancer survivor (yea! :clap2:)--had a bilateral mastectomy in 1994 with tram flap reconstruction. For those of you who are not cancer literate, I had a mini tummy tuck & the tissue was used for my "new" breasts. The procedure involves the insertion of plastic mesh in my abdomen from pubic line to breast line. My oncologist is worried that the integrity of the mesh will be compromised by the laproscopic surgery (exactly how much pressure can the mesh take before exploding?). Does anyone have any information on this subject? sillysandy:help:

Breast cancer/tram flap reconstruction
SandyB replied to SandyB's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thanks for your reply. I knew I wasn't that "special!" I knew there HAD to be someone out there who had exprienced the disgustingly amazing (I don't know how else to describe it) adventures of breast cancer. You will certaily be in my prayers tonight, girl. I actually drove to Houston today & will attend the lapband seminar tomorrow night. Since the bc, my perspective has changed and I decided it's now or never for the lapband (I'm now 57!). Please keep me posted on your progress & treatments--I promise to have lots of positive thoughts for you. Where did you have your lapband surgery? Would you do it again? sandy -
Breast cancer/tram flap reconstruction

Thanks for your thoughts! I'm getting my operative reports now from both my oncologist & the plastic surgeon who performed the reconstruction. From what i understand, during laproscropic surgery for the lap band, air (?) is blown into the abdominal cavity so that the organs are easier to reach. And that's the tricky question, how much air is used & how much can my mesh (sort of like my support bra!) withstand? Surely, there's someone out there who's had the same or a similar procedure before?
