HELP! 16th day with pain
robiecreek replied to clancy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i felt real poorly for about two weeks. very sore. i was banded july 25. dropped about 30 lbs the first month and could bearly stand upright. i let my self get dehidrated right off the bat. couldnt get 500 calories forced down. i turned to protien drinks and grape juice to get strength up. it was a long haul, but i made it. havent lost any wieght since and dont care. im working out a little and feel pretty good but still light headed and anxious. havent had fill and probably wont for a few more weeks. my son was banded sameday as me. he had no problems whatsoever. he has already had a fill and probably another in a few weeks. everybody is different. what does your doctor say. i would not go back to work if your not ready. i went in after my second week, turned around and came home after about 20 minutes. stayed home for another week and really worked on getting to 1000 calories a day. i was so full from the time i woke up till i went to bed, that all i could do was just sip all day long. finally got my strength back a bit. i think it just took a long time for my body to heal. i thoght my body was rejecting the band, but dr assured me it wasnt as it would be much worse right away. (first 24 hours). i would stay in close contact with your doctor. if all tests are normal, it will get better. hang in there. -
Exercise after Banding
robiecreek replied to MissNilsa's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my plan is to wait two weeks, besides 5 minute walks here and there. doc said it is personal. my biggest problem aside from pain is the week feeling i have from liquid diet. doc says within a week of mushy diet i will feel better and exercise is on my agenda. matter of fact my sons doc said begin walking several times a day for 10 minutes beginning day of surgery. helps with sweeling and pain. appears to be working for him. -

diet and cheating
robiecreek replied to andreerichards1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
a piece of pizza. im jealous. i wouldnt beat ur self up. like u said, u stopped at one. once ur banded, pizza will be in one of ur many, i wish i could....lists. banding is not prison, but it definetly takes some getting used to. if thats all the cheating ur doing, sounds like ur doing great. like ive said, i got banded with my son the same day and his preband meals consisted of bacon double cheeseburgers. he did fine. i lost more weight staying pretty good, so i am happy and he is happy. now that he is banmded he is doing well also. kind of makes me wonder about prediet, but im happy i lost the extra weight and so will u. hang in there. -

diet and cheating
robiecreek replied to andreerichards1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i lost 12# pre surgery diet. my son who was banded the same day managed to eat a double bacon cheese burger seems like everyday. he had an easier time than me by far. someone else i know who was just banded was liquid only the last week. she had the easiest time ive heard of yet. lessons learned? probably diet reasonably for several weeks, then switch to liquid only the last few days. -
banded july 18. was not ready for the discumfort. pain subsiding slowly, but port area very painfull. i hope this passes soon, as walking is a challenge at this point. for that matter all movment is a challenge. on the bright side im not hungry.

Bad news from my doctor
robiecreek replied to cookielover's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
from one cookielover to another banding works. i did it my son did it my wife is doing it tommorrow. i was banded last wed and have lost 9 lbs. my son has lost 12 he was banded on same day. talk to the folks at northwest surgery center they are the experts in seattle wa.. they train other docs on the procedure and are highly respected. we have researched gastric bypass surgery talk about scary. much more invasive much greater chance for malnutrition. with banding stomach is intact so nutrition is properly absorbed. i know its very hard to make a decision. we wish you well. -
I am going crazy in the liquid stage!
robiecreek replied to HeatherJones's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
how didu create the cool graph? my diet got better when i added pudding and yogurt. check with ur doc first. mine was dr montgomery from northwest surgery center seattle wa. -
im not real computer literate, so hope this works. slept on belly last night, felt great till i woke about 3am. made for tough day. i will be back on my left side for a few more days. getting the hang of what and when to eat, but looking forward to solids, even if mushy. im eating low call pudding, v8, yogart, and gatorade successfully. big move from broth.
-
i know what you mean. exercise will come, but i decided not to push it. hardest for me is cooking for my kids. today they had pot roast and potatos. grandma brought it over. smelled gooooood. on old diets, i would have been all over that roast. knowing i cant have it somehow made it easier. the weight is starting to come off already, so i am feeling good about things. dont push yourself, it will come slow and easy.

It's been 5days-when does pain end???
robiecreek replied to bradskoam's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my son and i had it done the same day. he was off pain meds after first day. then advill for a day or two. i on the other hand was in a great deal of pain the first three days, but it is slowly subsiding. i get the impression your situation and mine is not the norm. in addition i got dehydrated and constipated. i started forcing fluids and thing improved dramatically. i was banded the 18th. hang in there, it will get better. -
banded the 18th, im feeling the same thing. ive heard it could be some of the air they pump into you to get around inside you during the surgery. surgeon trys to get it all out before closing. other than that im assuming it will pass. ha ha
-
congradulations! would like to be near my goal also, but that might be to easy. my best day was surgery day. up and around within hours of procedure. pain is just around port incession at this point, but dehydration is getting the best of me. for some reason im feeling full (blouted) all the time. liquids fill me up to uncomfortable levels. forcing fluids at this point is difficult. i know i need to retain more water.
-
my dr had similar advice, although after first couple days i started liquid protien. seemed to help quite a bit. unfortunately i wasnt drinking enough fluids with the protien and became dehydrated. very sick feeling. drink drink drink. going back to work tomorrow, probably half day. getting out will hopefully keep me from thinking about solid food. i must admit, it is easier than i thought, given i know i cant eat even if i wanted to.
-
believe me we have talked. all vitals are fine. my son had lapband and he did not experience much discomfort after first day. im just not that lucky i guess. pain is significantly down now, but not a great ride. another lesson has been learned in the interim. drink, drink, drink. i had such a full feeling in my stomach that i did not stay up on fluids. became dehydrayted. very sick feeling. to much liquid protien, not enough fluids. was drinking 6-8 cups of Fluid a day, not enough with the Protein i was ingesting. feeling better and am looking forward to tomorrow. had i weighed myself, i would have figured it out. down 12#'s. obviously Water weight. drink drink drink
-
thank you for the input. i will pick some up today. i was unsure how to get the 80 grams of protien my doctor suggeted with liquids only.
-
im itchy as well. not excited about leaving house either. feel light headed, probably do to low calorie intake. i plan to go to work monday. seem to be getting better each day.
-
im also three days out. hunger doesnt seem to be an issue, but pain from surgery is greater than i expected. i started skim milk today and everything seems fine. was worried about no protien in the diet
