My Dr said absolutely no gum. If it got swallowed by mistake, it could block your opening. It is serious stuff. He also said no straws. Just hang in there, it gets better. You will be thinking about how to get your protein and water in, you won't have time to crave sweets.
-
I guess for pre-op you might try sugar free candies. I was a candy eater also, but at 4 weeks post op, I don't have those cravings. Donut did cross my mind for one brief second. Fruit is sweet like candy.

Birthsjourney could have been written by me. Today is 4 weeks post op. Haven't lost anything in 10 days. Off 5 medications and also had a hiatal hernia repair. Can't get in the 64 oz of water, but with the help of shakes, I meet my protein goal. Not getting the walking in that much since I wrenched my back on Thanksgiving. Every day I do a little more. The better I feel, the more I do and the more I do, the more it hurts. Vicious cycle. Went to lunch with girlfriends yesterday. Had 3 kinds of soup broths. Today I am meeting up with friends who I sew with every Tuesday. Not sewing, just visiting. Getting out more and more.

Sorry should say Moxy.
-
Moly, I am 1 day shy of 4 weeks and am experiencing the very same problems. Nothing appeals to me, but I can still drink the protein shakes. I average the same calories and have such a hard time getting in water. I really think we are normal, just like so many I have talked to. My one frustration is that I have not lost anything in 10 days. Not walking a lot because I wrenched my back on Thanksgiving and I guess that is contributing. Everyone says it gets better.

1 Month Out- Having A Tough Time
Judyr replied to Chelle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the support. It makes me feel so much better to talk to people who understand what I am going through and maybe have gone through it too. -
Salita, it is so funny. I weighted 229 at beginning too and had surgery for the same reasons. At first I thought your post was mine. Lol we even had surgery on same day. WOW
-
Hi Nikki, I had surgery 10 days ago for the very same reasons, plus had a hiatal hernia. Still not up to par, but you will not be sorry. I am so tired of taking all my meds and the risks of complications. Off 2 med already and will see my PCP physician to talk about the rest.
-
No, lax on spirometer. Will start again. I did this surgery for medical reasons, diabetes, high blood pressure, reflux, high cholesterol, kidney problems. Sometimes I hate to take meds or do procedures beyond what I have too. No problem with vitamin therapy, but so tired of meds. Off 2 already and see PCP on Mon to discuss course now that I have had surgery. She's a great Dr. It was her idea for the surgery. I never even thought I would be eligible for it. My daughter and granddaughter have both had it, but my weight alone did not qualify me. My medical issues did. I'm lucky, I have a Craftmatic bed, so sleep with head and feet elevated. Helped with reflux.

1 Month Out- Having A Tough Time
Judyr replied to Chelle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 9 days post op and want miracles. Lol I keep feeling like I should be doing better, but thanks to you, it seems like I am right on track. Had hiatal hernia repair also so that seems to have slowed me down too. Was trying to cut back on pain meds and I got so tearful today. Took a pill and my spirit is back to normal. Hard to not have the energy you want. -
I'm from Whittier, California. Alimarie you are the first person to tell me you had the same pain in chest. In hospital it was so bad, they gave me a breakthrough shot and in morning an EKG and blood work. Not taking gasx, do you think this is because of gas. Is that something I can get OTC or by prescription? Will try ice. Took a pain pill and not tearful any more.

I have 6 incisions, one more than friends. I just can't get over tightness in chest. I have liquids for 3 weeks, then puréed food for 3 weeks and on 7th week I can start soft foods. Every dr is different, but ours seem the same. I am trying, but only get in 70 grams protein and min of 32 oz water. Go to see Dr for post op appt on Mon. Hope I see him and not physicians assistant, who I saw in hospital and said I might see her afterwards. Daughter got worried during surgery because operation took an hour longer than he told her because of the size of hernia
-
Did it take you a long time to recover? I am only 9 days post op, but feel so bad. Others seem to be bouncing back a lot quicker than me and I am getting so discouraged.
-
Has anyone had a hiatal hernia repair along with their bypass operation. I need some insight into what I am feeling.
-
As anyone had a hiatal hernia before surgery? What did they do? My Dr is going to do a repair at time of my RNY and I am wondering if anyone else has had this done and what was it like? How did you feel afterward?
-
Thanks both of you. Just curious. I had no idea I had one until I met with my surgeon. I have had reflux for over 10 years and that also contributed.
-
19th too. I absolutely love Pure Protein Frosty Chocolate Shake in a 11 oz can. Has 35 grams of protein.
-
Saw the surgeon and pre-op nurse today. 11/19 is my surgery date. Was told that I have a large hiatal hernia. He is going to repair that at the same time as my bypass. Said it would add about an hour to the surgery. Think I am lucky because some Drs want that done as separate operation. I will be doing my own pre-op diet starting a week before surgery. I have lost weight and he is happy with my results. In the meantime, using My Fitness Pal, substituting one meal with protein shake and being very careful of diet. If I follow the guidelines now, it will make it easier later.
-
I am curious, where do you get natural whey Protein? I have chocolate and vanilla, but would like tasteless.
-
I think it all has to do with your insurance co requirements. I am having all the tests and even though I have a date, I still have to wait on the outcome. So far, so good. Only 4 hr stress test left to do.
-
In support they told us about people like that. He is jealous. Your health comes first, but you need to quit smoking. That can cause complications after surgery and you don't want that. Talk to your Dr.
-
My daughter used Kaiser over 5 years ago and my granddaughter used them about 2 months ago.
-
My pre-op diet is high protein, low carb. I also protein shake one of my meals. Hard at first, but it gets easier. It helps when I am not in the mood to sit down and plan my meal on My Fitness Pal.

Did they tell you right away? I had my upper GI, but have not heard anything. Thought I would find out at surgeon appt on Nov 1, but kidney specialist did approve me. So curious how you found out so soon?
-
I have been very lucky too. I live in Whittier, CA. I have had my upper GI. Tomorrow I have lab work and see a kidney specialist and on Tues I see a cardiologist. Then next appt is with surgeon on Nov 1 and surgery on Nov 19. Getting so excited. I have also lost some weight, so hope that helps.
