Hi, My surgery is just over two weeks away now (Nov 6th) and up until this weekend I didn't have too many nerves about this, just the usual sensible concerns, but now I'm starting to doubt my decision and I was wondering if this is just a normal phase? There is no doubt that I need to lose weight at 270 pounds, 5' 5'' and aged 49 I am really concerened about my health and mobility, especially in the future. I've been getting extra scared over the past year or so as my dad has type 2 diabeties and his health has really gone down in the past couple of years - he is now virtually housebound and extremly overweight and I can see myself going this way unless I do something about it. I have dieted on and off all my life since I was about 14 years old - sometimes I've lost a lot of weight but I've always put it back on - and more!! But this operation is such a big thing to do and a little part of me wonders if I try to diet one more time maybe I'll get it right and not have to do this.... the other part of me says, don't be silly just how many times do you need to try and fail before you get the message that you need extra help!! silly I know but I just wondered if any of you have been through the same mixture of emotions and how you dealt with it. I've been reading through so many bypass stories, good and bad, and the good really do seem to outnumber the bad so I can't really see any real reason not to go through with it - most days I'm just looking forward to getting the operation out of they way and starting on my brand new lifestyle, I'm lucky as my husband and daughter are right behind me with this decision, so hopefully this is just last minute nerves - sorry to have gone on so much.....

How do you log food, do you just keep this in a notepad or do you do something more in depth?

Hi, I just wanted to introduce myself. I've been visiting loads of forums for the past month or so and this one is full of so many kind and helpful people that I decided to join up, couldn't find anything this good here in the UK :-) I'm booked in for bypass in early November (pending blood test results etc). I'm getting really nervous but have to say your experiences and supportive comments to everyone are helping me feel better. Hope to join you with my own success story soon.

Wow, you're an inspiration. Just the kind of a story that will help me before I have my operation... As I'm getting a little nervous now... -

Hi, I was originally interested in the sleeve but thought better of it after my initial consultation and after looking around on the forums am glad I have changed my mind it seems a much better option. Did you have a band for long and did it work for you at all. I'm currently 273 pounds and 5' 3" and have tried every diet going I lost tons of weight a few years ago and gradually put it all back on again as usual. Good luck with your operation and let us know how you get on.
