    OMG October 2013 Post-ops

Almost into the 230s. That will be so exciting. I think I was last in the 230s in Jr. High School. Also, had my first Cross Fit workout this morning. I have muscles hurting that I didn't know I had.

    OMG October 2013 Post-ops

Had a doctors appointment today and had my A1C level checked (among other things). The results are that all of my test results were great, and my A1C was a 5.5 (the last time I had it checked before surgery is was around 10.8).

    OMG October 2013 Post-ops

Had my surgery Oct. 1st. SW 300, CW 248. Went fast at the beginning, has slowed down some now. Gonna start Cross Fit in a week to see if I can't speed it back up.
  4. I am going to add some info, and I will probably add more later. I am 36 years old, morbidly obese, and a type II diabetic. At my heaviest, I weighed around 380 lbs. More recently, I have been hovering around 300 lbs, but my diabetes has been virtually uncontrollable. So, I decided in late August 2013 to attempt to qualify to have gastric bypass surgery. Long story short, and in what seems to be a miracle giving some other peoples experiences with doctors, insurance, etc, I was approved to have surgery on Oct. 1st. I am writing this post as one of the first things I am doing since returning home today from the hospital. My surgery went extremely well and I am fairly mobile with only a moderate level of discomfort/pain. During my first day at the hospital (the day of surgery), I took two separate walks around the hospital, (one about a third of a mile, one about two thirds of a mile). During my second day, I took a one mile walk, and a one and a half mile walk). Everything I have read on the internet and gotten from my doctor has made it clear the best thing I can do to get this process to work is to walk as soon and as much as is possible, and that is what I have been doing. I am so stoked for this process and I am going to do everything I can to make this work. I owe a lot of credit to this board, which I have been reading (but not posting in) for the past month or so as I researched what this would be like. I look forward to using this forum to document my journey.
  5. SO the trip went well except, i was feeling so good that while I was sitting in a chair Saturday night, I whipped around real fast to see someone who called from behind me. I felt what I can only describe as a small pop, and now my left side is about the same soreness it was a week ago. Basically it went backward. And, there is a small bruise. Not sure exactly what I did, but I am not worried about it, just pissed off it is hurting again.
  6. I am 16 days post op and tomorrow I am heading out on a work trip. 4 days. 7 hours driving on the first and fourth days. Supervising 10 college students the whole way. Up from 6am-11pm on Days 2 and 3. This should be an adventure.
  7. Not at all. If I don't consciously make myself drink, I probably would hardly drink at all. And before surgery I was just like you are describing.

    What ya eating tonight?

Decided to have a scrambled egg on grits (one of the packs of instant) and a laughing cow cheese wedge. The grits were a mistake (should have made them runny), the cheese is ok, the egg was amazing.

    A Whole Can?

My doc said that, other than when you are on the liquid only diet, I shouldn't eat soup. Soup doesn't fill the pouch, it runs through it. So, in effect, you are taking in calories and still feeling hungry.

    What Was Your Starting Weight?

  11. So, I was thirsty (really thirsty), and I had a "brain fart" and took a big gulp of my drink (diet cran lemonade). Huge mistake. Didn't yak, but almost. I used to be able to down a 32 oz Gatorade (in retrospect probably not a good thing) all at once.
  12. Just had tuna salad for the first time since surgery. Tasted great. The stomach disagrees.

I had half an avacado with some salsa and sour cream.

  15. I am eating for fuel, but I don't want to.
  16. I have been so exhausted today. I slept probably 17 hours today. Right now I am awake, but I still feel totally drained. I also am nauseous today. Not vomiting nauseous, but that low level that is just enough to make you uneasy all day.
  17. I really can't have it, but I am craving some Ramen noodles.
  18. I just had a sudden, unexpected, powerful sneeze. I had forgotten about my abdomen (because it doesn't really hurt anymore except when I sleep on that side or move awkwardly), but for that instant I thought my body had exploded open.

    Lap Roux 9/27

Glad to hear it is going well.
  20. Yesterday/this morning was fun. Got to try new stuff. Had mashed potatoes for dinner last night, had a 60 calorie no sugar lemon pudding cup later in the evening (I have been going to bed around 3am lately). This morning (around 1030) I had a yoplait greek peach yogurt. All of these things were delicious, filling, and did not upset my stomach at all. Had my best night of sleep yet (slept from 3am-10am) including sleeping on my side (the right one of course) all night. And this was all after I went to work and met with my students yesterday, who I had missed for the past week since surgery. A good day I would say. One negative today. I got choked up this morning (on nothing, just took a wrong breath I guess), and the deep, unstoppable coughing was quite painful. I guess my ab muscles are healed pretty well for day to day stuff, but they are still sensitive to hacking.

The gas will, for the most part, ease up as your new pouch heals, but walking is the best thing you can do. Walk as much as you can make yourself, and then walk a little more.

    Too sweet protein :(

You have to like coconut (which I do) and DISHWATER (which I don't) because that is what it tastes like.
  23. 1 week check in was today. Dr. says everything looks great. I am down 18 lbs since surgery last week, 25 since I started the cabbage soup diet the week before surgery. Got my staples taken out and the nurse says my cuts look well enough that I should end up with tiny scars. Next appointment is in 3 weeks, and everything is moving along fine. And.....drum roll.........I am getting ready to have some mashed potatoes (sans butter). Exciting!
