September Post Ops!
WorkItWorkIt replied to ShineBright724's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you getting all your water in? Craving salty could be a sign of dehydrated. I had surgery on September 4th and have been dehydrated - I should have gone to the Doctor - instead I just keep pushing the fluids. I track my water intake because I am so bad at getting my 64 oz in a day. I have to ask myself if I am hungry or is it a craving. I would live to eat - now I eat to live - believe me I could eat - I was really afraid the Doctor was going to tell me after surgery that he had never seen such a big stomach! -
Help deciding

They are very different. With bypass you can not eat sugar, carbs, stay on high protein until you lose 75% of your weight and you can only eat 3 tablespoons of food at one time. I know me, if I had the chance I would eat the sugar and defeat the purpose of having surgery. The one person I know that had sleeve lost 50 of the 100 they wanted to lose and then started putting the weight back on. -
If you are drinking your Protein I generally start out with a protein in the morning then there is no difference, you can continue drinking your Water. I set a timer, write down what time I ate, something to remind myself okay in one hour I can drink. Some people can drink within 45 minutes of eating. It all depends on what I eat as the length of time between eating and drinking. If I have cottage cheese or eggs I can drink within about 40 minutes of eating. If I have chicken, I need to wait at least an hour and a half because the chicken does not digest as fast as the cottage cheese. Every persons body is different what works for me may not work for you. I am 44 days out, I am still learning, I had shrimp yesterday for lunch, waited an hour, drank some water and lost every ounce. It was the first time I had eaten shrimp. So sometimes it is just trial and error. BTW, my doctor recommends 64 oz of water a day. Good luck on your new journey - I used to live to eat, now I eat to survive. Surgery date 9/4/2013 HW 269 RYN 238, this week 209

I had an open surgery sept. 4 th and was back to work on sept 19 th two weeks after surgery with staples still in my stomach. I did not lift, I am a manager, did not work more than six hours the first few days back to work, was tired when I got home and took a nap. It can be done, but be careful, doctors have been known to change the date! I went back to work so that I could go to a conference the following week. Good luck I am using a Water bottle brand name Contigo that has a straw - liquid stays in the straw so no bubbles - helps me get in all my water. Surgery date 9/4/2013 HW 259 RYN 238, this week 209

I was told the same thing, protein drinks count as your liquids for the day. I am sitting in Urgent care due to a UTI, second UTI since surgery on September 4th. More than likely not drinking enough liquids! -

This is one of the worst days I have had since my surgery. Barely ate today and did not drink more than ten ounces. I know tomorrow will be better. I never want another day like today. It is a holiday for me tomorrow thank goodness or I would be calling in sick. I truly hope fiber will take care of my problem. I am going to call the nut and see what they say. Six month check up

Yeah big hug for you how WONDERFUL for you. Looking forward to my three month check up. Surgery date 9/4/2013 HW 259 RYN 238, this week 209 -
To me dumping is a learning exercise. What did I eat, was it too fast, too much, did it have sugar, did I drink too soon after eating and on and on. Sometimes just one bite too much and dumping is the only cure. I try to measure or weigh everything. Going out to lunch is hard because I can not figure out what three ounces looks like! Okay this is gross, but I can clean my butt hole in the shower without breaking my arm. Before I would have to strain to each between my cheeks, now it is like no problem, I know I am weird!!!! Surgery date 9/4/2013 HW 259 RYN 238, this week 209 -

Just remember that this will only last a few more weeks. If you fill that you need more, contact your doctors office. Usually after four weeks you are on mushy foods but every doctor is different. This is a learning life style changing event in our life's although I freely admit I am a slow learner! Surgery date 9/4/2013 start weight 259 preop weight 238, this week 205
