    Optifast (Vanilla to Exchange)

I have never tried the vanilla, I would be willing to exchange a few, as I am getting really sick of the chocolate. I am not sure how far apart we live, and if it is worth the drive to exchange only a few. I am in Oakville.

    September Lunch

Is there anyone from Oakville, Burlington, or Milton attending the September luncheon, who is interested in carpooling? I do not mind driving, or being a passenger.

What do you tell people at work?

I have told no one at work about the band. I told them that I needed a hiatal hernia repair. My doc did that at the same time as the band, so I am not lying. I would not tell coworkers if I was getting an IUD, so why should I tell them about the band?

    Chewing gum?

Chewing gum lets in air and causes gas, not pleasant.

    Lunch Ideas

A quick and easy protein is tofu, I dice it up very small, and add a little salad dressing. I throw it on the salad right before I eat it.
  7. I am a mom to a sixteen month old dog daughter. The menu foods recall was very scary. Luckily the breeder had told me that dogs do not tolerate wheat well, and NEVER to give her wheat products. It got me thinking, Why do I eat wheat. After doing some research I gave it up in April. Then decided the next step to health was the lapband. It seems that everyone on this thread is very dedicated to taking care of there animal family members, and are striving for proper nutrition for there pets. I wonder though, how many people buy crap for their kids, stuff such as pizza, mcDonalds, Mac&Cheese, bologna, ketchup, etc etc. Just something to think about, from someone who admittedly does not know how hard it is to raise HUMAN children. Cheers

    Thread Killers

If this has already been mentioned, I apologize. I didnt want to read the millions of posts in this thread. What really annoys me is the people who are constantly whining that there insurance company is making them wait or making them do this or do that, or that they have to pay for some of there own fills. If they want surgery quickly and do not want to jump through hoops, then PAY CASH.
  9. I was banded on August 15rh, which was a wednesday, I am self pay so was home 3 hours after the surgery. The next morning I walked the dog, large dog. I felt like crap for the first 30 hours. By friday I was feeling much better, and I went out for lunch (soup) went shopping and went for a pedicure. No one said i couldnt drive, so I drove on friday. I had some trouble sleeping the first 3 nights due to gas pain in the shoulder, so I needed naps during the day. I would buy some frozen dinners for your son, and have stuff that he can make himself a sandwich. I would let him rent some video games and movies, to keep him happy and busy. I did not want any one around to "help' me, as I would felt like I had to be social. The first few days I was on Clear liquids, so I certainly did not need help to pour some broth in a cup and put it in the microwave. I had a shower the day after surgery. no problem. I could have gone to work on the monday after surgery, but I a had 10 sick days, that if I didnt use by september 01, I would lose. So needless to say I took the time off. I cleaned out my garage, rented a steam cleaner and cleaned my carpets, sorted some boxes in my basement etc. Not exactly in bed recovering. The gas can be the biggest problem, I had a hyster last year, and the gas was also the problem with that. The only way to get rid of the gas is to walk walk walk walk. Walk as soon as you can, as often as you can and as long as you can. It is also important to keep your legs moving to prevent blood clots the day of surgery. (according to my doc). Good luck, you will be fine!! By the way I also had a hiatal hernia repaired at the same time, which apparently is very common.
  10. Have you ever had this particular sugar free chocolate before? I ask because I have had a severe reaction to the sorbitol and other sweeteners they use. I have severe stomach cramps and the worst diarrhea of my entire life. With your surgery so close, I wouldnt risk it.

    Calling all cheaters!!

I have felt your pain. I was on a 14 day liquid pre op diet, three Optifast shakes, per day. No food. I cheated 4 times. Like you I had a small meal, I did not binge on crap. I cheated for my sanity. I would have gone postal without looking forward to my saturday steak, or my egg Breakfast. I planned these cheats to make the three shakes seem less like torture. I lost 11 pounds on the pre op and the doc said I did very well. i confessed to the cheats, and he said "everyone cheats, the only difference is some people dont admit it". Now I am 2 weeks post op, I have lost 8 pounds since surgery, so I am down 19 pounds in 4 weeks. Try your best, you will be fine

    Frustration

I quit smoking in April, so i was a non smoker when I got banded a couple of weeks ago. If you need support for the smoking thing, feel free to pm me. Hang in there!!
  13. I dont have kids but a good friend of mine who is a single parent decided to get her tubes tied. Her daughter was seven at the time, and she knew that her daughter would broadcast to the neighbourhood. Of course not wanting speculation about her sex life and reproductive organs to be the gossip of the week, she needed an explanation. She told her daughter that mommy had a problem with her tummy and the doctor was going to fix it. She showed the daughter the scar, and explained that the doc fixed it. That explanation seemed to satisfy, although the daughter was more interested in the fact that mommy had bought her a new DVD movie that day. I am sure this will work for lapband surgery too.
  14. I think that will be fine, you can add a little broth or something as you puree. I am just finishing with the puree phase. I was afraid the baby food would not have enough flavour so I ended up making my own purees. I cooked a sweet potato and pureed it with some carrot juice. It was very good. I also pureed hard boiled eggs with mayo and plain yogourt. Also did canned tuna the same way. Good luck, I am sure you will do fine.
  15. Stage 1 is more runny, stage 2 is thicker and lumpy-ish.

    2 Week follow-up

Lisa, CONGRATS I thought about you yesterday when I met with Sue. I too asked about food, in particular Peanut Butter, and she said I could have it. I was told I could start soft also. I am actually scared to try it. I continued with puree yesterday and today. I suppose eventually I will lose my fear and actually try soft !! I am looking forward to swimming this weekend!
  17. Hi There I have 84 pounds to lose. I was banded one week ago. I live in Ontario Canada, the band here is not covered by any insurance, in any circumstance. I took the 16 thousand out of my line of credit and will be paying it off for the next 2 or 3 years.

    Week One Alone?

I live alone and was banded on August 15th. I had someone pick me up at the clinic and drive me home, they walked me in the house and left. I was uncomfortable and gassy the first 36 hours so didnt want anyone around anyway. I also turned off my phone, as i was sleeping on and off during the day and didnt want to be woken up
  19. You need to do what feels right for you. Family members are not entitled to information about your body. If you decide to tell them make sure it is out of love, not out of Fear that you are hurting there feelings.
  20. half a cup of cottage cheese 1 cup plain yogourt 1/2 cup of berries 1/3 cup of oatmeal (uncooked) Mix it all together, eat, it is very filling and low glycemic

    Worried New Bandster

Every Doc seems to give a different post op diet. As a diabetic I certainly could not have lasted on clear fluids for a week. Call the clinic where you were banded to clarify the post op diet THEY feel is right for YOU. Everything I have read suggests that it is critical to your health to follow the post op diet, and that not doing so can lead to very serious and unpleasant situations.

    Spinning class?

I joined the gym 2 weeks before being banded. Spinning was the first class I tried. I LOVED it. It was completely awesome, a real adrenalin rush. A couple of days later I tried a YOGA class. Hated It!!. I have been banded one week and cant wait until next week when I can hopefully go to spinning class again.

    Confused?? about liquids

Hi There From what I have read on this website, the doctors and clinics all have there own version of the post op. My doc said 2 days clear fluids then move to full fluids for 10 days (anything that could go up a straw, although do not use a straw as it causes gas) At least one of my Fluid meals must be Optifast. I think you are gonna get tons of different answers here, and end up even more confused. I suggest that you call clinic where you were banded and ask them to clarify the post op diet that THEY recommend for YOU. Good luck

  25. I was banded on August 15. DO yourself a favour and AVOID those grocery store Soups as they are FULL of sodium and preservatives. SInce I am not spending much on groceries, I have been going to high end restaurants, and ordering a bowl of there homemade Soup. The bowls are huge and usually make about 3 meals for me. SOme do require a little blending at home with broth if they are thick or chunky. I have also been avoiding the Jello and diet popsicles, as I cant imagine that all that aspartame is fantastic for me. I am having a fantastic time, eating very top quality food, and not spending a fortune, cos I just order soup.
