I think that you should eat smaller meals more often, and drink high protein, low calorie protein drinks. Keep a food journal, and call your doctor and tell him that you are starving and you feel that you are eating too much and you have proof (show him your food journal), and you need a fill sooner not later. I would wait 6 weeks, because that is the normal time most doctors do a fill. This is just my opinion.

I am starting solids on Saturday and I am a little scared too. First of all I really don't know what is good and what is bad. I have an instruction book, but that doesn't give me much comfort. I want to stay in my mushy comfort zone forever, but alas we must move forward. I am not too worried about gaining weight, because I will just increase my exercise to compensate. Also I will expect to gain during this time. I will start losing when the fills start, that is the big key to the success of the band, right?

This site is a life saver for me, and this group of the Tenacious Ten is very special. I could not make this journey without these wonderful people. Welcome and I hope you stay with us.

I wish I was where you are...98 pounds lighter! You see everyone has a some one to look up to, or wish they could be. Right now I wish I could be you. I am not worried I will put in my time, and I will get there too. Thank you for being my inspiration.

I have finally made it to onederland !!!!
cookielover replied to kaohinani's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Onderland sounds like a wonderful place to be! I can't wait to join you. You have only been banded for two months too. Did you ever think that in two months you would be this far? Congratulations on your success and hard work. -

I dont know Judy I kind of like the roundness of the current bug. I will have to wait and see. I might just wait to get a convertible old school style when they are blowing them out to make room for the new style. Hopefully I will get a killer deal. -
I second this... This is not a magic cure. We just got it put in, and it hasn't been "turned on" Think of it this way: Let's say you bought a really nice car and you wanted to drive it around town, but you hadn't got the key yet. Would you go out to your driveway every morning bang your head on your steering wheel and say, "For the love of god! Why can't I go anywhere?" That would be the most retarded thing you could ever do. According to every book that deals with lapbands says there is a great possibility that we will gain weight during the recovery. Now it is true some people are losing weight during the recovery stage, but are we living with them, do we have their bodies? NO! My doctor told me never compare yourself to ANYONE else; you will be much happier. During this recovery process our bodies are doing crazy things like holding on to gas, and Water. I would put your scales away until I have been on solids for a month, and started a exercise routine. That is just my 2 cents.

I am going through bandster hell too. I was worried because I was eatting more than my doctor prescribed. I mean who could live on 3/4 of food. I called the nurse, who spoke to the doctor, who then called me back and said, "that if I eat more than what is recommended in one sitting I could be in danager on doing harm to my band. Well I freaked out. Who would have thought 1/4 cup could do so much harm? So I put myself on liquids for the next day, and today I have been following the doctor's guildelines to a T. The only difference is: If I get hungry in two hours I eat again. I eat smaller meals more often. It seems to be working. I have only had to resort to extra eating once. I think most of it is head hunger. So if I tell myself I can eat whenever I want to. Problem solved. I also make sure I get all my protein in. I consume about 800 to 900 calories per day, and walk off 500 calories.

I have a question about the pouch everyone keeps refering to. When you are newly banded do you have a pouch? Or does it develope as a result of getting fills? I am 3 weeks out and on the mushy stage. I was wondering if it is ok to eat a cup of mushy food at every meal. A cup fills me up nicely. I am not too full, and I am not hungry. According to my meal plan I am suppose to eat 3/4 cup at one sitting. Does 1/4 cup make a lot of difference? I called my doctor to ask him but he is out of town until November 8th. His receptionist booked me in for a fill on the 15th. I need advice because I did not spend all this time and money to wreck my band over 1/4 cup. I have decided to change my ways and just suffer out the hunger and eat the 3/4 that is recommended. However I now I am worried that my 1/4 extra for 7 days has caused damage. Can you shed some light on this for me. I thought when I got my band I would be stronger than this! Also drinking water: Is it 30 minutes before and 1 hour after?<!-- google_ad_section_end --><!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

Opps I was greedy...and now I am worried!
cookielover posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok...I am on mushies and I was eating my dinner and I couldn't stop myself I just wanted more and more. I was so hungry. I had 1/2 of blended casserole, 1/2 cup of green Beans, and 1/2 of blended chili. On my meal plan I am only suppose to consume 3/4 cup of blended food per meal. I doubled that. I am so full. (FINALLY.) I don't plan to make a habit of my slip, because I paid too much money for this band. Can messing up one time cause damage to your pouch? Is there a pouch? Can you stretch it? Did I stretch it? Did eating this "massive" quanitity of food cause damage to the band? I was banded on October 3rd. I know there must be a million of these questions asked on the board daily. When I am a vetern bander I will happily answer the newbies overeating question. For now can you please answer mine. -
I tried chicken yesterday....
cookielover replied to lovekatz1975's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am on the mushy stage and I love putting chicken breast in the blender! My husband makes all kinds of caseroles and by the time they are pureed to almost liquid I can down anything. I even tried hamburger helper. It was too salty for my new and improved taste buds, but it did blend nicely. I just can't watch it blend, because it doesn't look too appealing. -
My doctor gave me Nexium straight out of the hospital. I only took it for a week. I worked like a charm. Good luck. Maybe other bandsters with join us and we will have a Beetle convoy!!! wouldn't that be amazing.

Do You have to grind up your meds?
cookielover replied to beckymein1021's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I rind up my meds! It is so gross that my body shudders at the very thought of taking them now. The pills taste like battery acid. One day at a time right? -
I am only speaking for myself but I am NOT ever getting a scale. I weigh myself at my doctors once a month. If I see another scale tempting me in the distance I steer clear of it. You see I understand my weight will go up and down. I just don't want to get upset by it. If one pound can ruin my day then what was the point of getting this band in the first place? I have to rely on something that is brand new to me: FAITH. I have to have faith in myself, and my band. Instead I look for other things such as: the way my body looks in the mirror, and how my clothes fit. I have to say that I have never been happier. I am taking the focus off of weight and putting it on me. This is all about me. I am doing something fantastic for me. I have never done anything for just me. I know that I will succeed; I don't need numbers on a scale to tell me that.

OMG this is going to get expensive. If we are trading in our food addiction for a VW addiction. Woweee. I am from Canada and now that our dollar is trading higher than the US dollar I think we should pay less for our cars. Maybe I will have to come and buy one down there! VW.com here I come....vroom vroom vroom...

Ladies, I LOVE your bugs!!!! Pictures of Marsha will be coming soon. She is getting a "makeover". She was in a fender bender a few weeks ago. I am getting a red convertible. It makes me smile just thinking about it. Imagine my skinny bum driving around in a red convertible...BEEP BEEP!

I was thinking about this.... I went to Vegas (pre-band) and paid 28.00 for a buffet. I wasn't that hungry but everyone wanted to go there, so I wasn't able to eat more than one small plate. (I did not eat 28.00 of food.) I still had a really good time with my husband and friends. The time we had there was priceless; I wish I could get into it here but I can't! I never laughed so hard in my life. If I was just sitting there sipping on water, and "enjoying" the company I don't think it would have been the same. I don't want stop living just because I have a band. If you made the commitment to go to the buffet why did you just drink water? You see if I was at that party with you I would wonder why you were just drinking water, and you would get a lot of my attention. (I am just being honest.)And that is bad because the party isn't about you. If I was the host of the party I would also feel bad if you were just drinking water at my birthday party. And that is bad, because no one should have to worry if their guest are having a good time. I think drinking water at the party might have been a little passive agressive. I know you were upset at the restaurant, but what lesson did you teach them? They are not hurting for business. Also seniors discounts are not on the same page as a person with a lap band. I know from a marketing stand point that seniors eat earlier than the dinner crowd, so most places started offering seniors discounts to fill in the gaps between lunch and dinner. If we start giving discounts to lap band patients where will it end? My friend who is so thin can only eat maybe half a plate of food, should she ask for a discount? Because according to your theory she is being ripped off, or should she stuff her face to get her monies worth?

OMG I totally know what you are saying about the lack of veggies. I started mashing up canned green Beans, and that was tasty. Also I drank some V-8. I also don't feel as satisfied as I thought I would slurping my food. I want to chew. I want eat more; I have to stop myself, as I don't get any satisfaction from blenderized food. I am not sure if I am full or hungry, or just wanting to chew. What I wouldn't give for a huge plate of pasta! I know, I know, I know, bad Amy. Hopefully the next 11 days will fly by.

It feels like I am going backwards!
cookielover posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on October 3rd. I had the usual symptoms during my first week of recovery, but by the end of the first week I was feeling pretty good. Now I am on day 18 and I am feeling crappy again. My port is very bothersome. I am back to taking my pain meds. I am tired during the day, and have to nap quite a bit. So needless to say I have little energy. I am back to being bloated, and uncomfortable. I am drinking my Water 64 oz + a day. I do get my 60 grams of Protein. I get some carbs. I am consuming about 1000 calories a day. I am walking a least an hour a day. I just can't understand why I feel so crappy. -
OOOOO I have a beetle too. A white one named Marsha! I love her. (Shhh...I am getting a convertible one soon. However, I don't know if I will be able to part with Marsha, so I might have to keep her too. My 10 year old wants to drive her when she becomes 16.) I love my BUG!

Step 1. Make your goal ticker. Step 2 Copy the img for the goal ticker ex: Step 3. Go to your signature and edit signature Step 4 In the signature area where you can edit the text and put smilies just paste the img where you want it to go. The trick is that you can only have 10 lines. So you may have to reduce spaces. Good luck!

I know what you mean Carrot...I live in Rain-Country. Who wants to walk in the rain today? Not me. But alas, I have to get my butt out there for an hour today and brave through the storm. I wonder if I get extra points for getting soaked?

I may be speaking out of turn...but why are you going to buffets if you don't want to pay the price? Since I am banded the last place that I am going to hang out is a buffet. Now I realize from your post that you were out with friends. I would do one of two things: 1. Ask my friends to join me at another dining location. Tulalip does have 3 other dining choices that are not buffets. 2. If you can't change it because it is a party: Suck it up and pay the price. Don't just have water; enjoy yourself anyway. Me personally I don't think it is money well spent in a buffet, but if I had to I would. I am still planning on having the time of my life. Good luck on getting discounts. And when I go out it is going to be doggy bags for me.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->
