I forgot to introduce myself...HOW RUDE!
cookielover replied to cookielover's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yep I am banded...the hunger is not so bad, because I am keeping the protein in check. It is the bloating that I hate. I look pregnant. (walking, water, and GAS X are not even touching the bloat) -
Am I the only one who is paying cash?
cookielover replied to benson1029's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am a self-pay- it isn't my favorite thing to pay for, but I figured I got myself into this mess...I'd better get myself out of it. -
Disclaimer: These are my doctor's instructions and I will not be waivering from them, but based on the feed back I receive I may talk to him on Thursday about a restructure program if necessary. I am currently on the "full Fluid diet portion" of the program which runs 10 days. I am still hungry and I wanted to know if my portions are in line with what your doctor recommended. Or are you eating the same or less and surviving...or barely hanging on. Do you think that the portions in my diet plan are reasonable...or crazy. I am basily taking a poll. Breakfast 1/4 cup of ensure lite Protein drink 1/4 cup of milk 1/4 cup of juice Mid AM Snack (choose ONE) 1/4 cup of juice or 1/4 yogurt or 1/4 cup of milk lunch 1/4 cup of strained cream Soup 1/4 cup of milk 1/4 cup of pudding or yogurt Mid PM Snack (choose ONE) 1/4 cup of ensure lite Protein Drink or or 1/4 Jell-0 dinner 1/4 cup of strained cream soup 1/4 cup of milk 1/4 cup of pudding or yogurt Eveing Snack 1/4 cup of Ensure lite protein drink To ensure I get in all my protein I can add my whey soya Protein powder to my Water that I drink through out the day to help fill me up and increase protein intake. (I hate whey soya protein powder...it taste gawd awful!!! (YUCKY!) So how much do you drink in a day? Am I just being a pig? Or is my doctor crazy? Please share your stories so we can have a talk on Thursday if we need to. I won't talk to him if all of you come back and say this is normal; I will just tough it out. Thank you in advance for your help.

Advice from folks on a full fluid diet...

Are you hungry? -
My doctor presribed Nexium for me...I didn't know why...I just took it. (I am such a sheep.) But now I see why. I do get a case of small burps every once in a while...
-
I have a "lap-band" book...and I have a diet guide book given to me by my doctor and they both said that Crystal Light was okay, so is SF kool-aid.
-
Carrot- I don't know how to explain this to you, but I feel a connection to you. I read your posts and I get happy:rolleyes: . I know the dread you are talking about when you are talk about leaving your child, but remember by getting this surgery you are improving your odds of living longer with your child. In a week you will look back at this moment and laugh at your worry. Just think you are not doing this alone.

Congratulations Holly! You have now become ONE of US! (he he he he) I hope you have a speedy recovery.

They put wrapping on my legs and gave me a shot to prevent clots. I'm sure that is stardard practice. My doctor did not put me on a pre-op diet. He said that there was no proof that you could shrink your liver enough in 2 weeks to make a difference. I had no bruising of my liver. Good luck tomorrow I will also keep you in my thoughs as well.
-
OMG 10 pounds down- congratulations! If you can do that on your own just think of what you can do with the lapband! It is scary thing for some people, for me it wasn't. The thought of being overweight my whole life was scarier. There are pictures of me laughing and posing in my hospital garb right before surgery. (not so much afterward.) I will keep you in my thoughts tomorrow! Good luck. It looks like 10 is your lucky number... 10 pounds lost...10/10/07!

TENaciousTENS "roll call" as promised!
cookielover replied to OregonHolly's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hey according to last roll call 67 of us are now banded!:banplease: That is about half. WE SO ROCK! How are the "waiting-to-be-banded" folks doing? Oh man...would someone please eat a big fat juicy cheese buger for me, and top it off with a Starbucks Mocha?:hungry: Any takers? I hope that recently was banded is resting,:car: because that is very important to your recovery! I am confident when I say that we are all in this together! -
Hi everybody I feel like Amy again! (except everyone is still waiting on me hand and foot...shhhh don't tell them I am feeling better.) I woke up today and I smiled and tought about how lucky I was to have the opportunties in life that I do. I went down to my beautiful kitchen and blended a Protein shake, and reminded myself to buy some flowers today. I also have to buy some cute sweat pants, you should see me right now...I am wearing old ratty red ones, with a pink top. I never invested in sweats before, as I was a jean girl.I can't wear jeans because I am bloated and there is the incisions to think about. So I get to go SHOPPING! Today I ate cream of cheese Soup...I never had that before, and I liked it! I was supposed to only eat 1/2 a cup; ahem...I ate 1 cup...BUT I AM FINALLY FULL!!!! As you can probably tell by my babbling I am just happy. Love to you all.

I have a serious but kind of gross question!
cookielover replied to cookielover's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I added benefiber to my shake yesterday and today..and to my afternoon water. I used a suppository last night, but had little success. I am as round as a beach ball. I walked over a mile yesterday, and I drank over a litre of water in addition to my fluid diet. I could do more, or just wait it out... -
Keeping it a secret?
cookielover replied to Fluffy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I told everyone: my family, my friends, and my neighors. I now have a "team" behind me. No one that KNOWS me has ever said that I am taking the "easy way out." And if they did...oh boy I would tell them a thing or two, and then show them to the door. My family and friends want me to be happy. Everyone is excited for me. Since I am newly banded I cant eat solids, but people are constantly calling and inviting me over for dinner when I am feeling better. They want to make sure they have my "new" favorite foods and it is cooked the way I can eat it. So there will be no stress on me. (Hey in the newness of it all, we just all want to be careful...as the months roll on they will probably feed me steak... I could not do this without all the love and support of my family and friends. And they would have never been here for me if I wouldn't told them. -
Day 4, post-op...and I'm craving solids!
cookielover replied to catnip_addict's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Isn't funny when all the choices are taken away how less picky we become? I HATED Jell-O. I used to say I would rather starve than eat Jell-O; well look who is eating her words! Me. I eat the stuff 3 times a day. Green, yellow, orange, red it doesn't matter I just love it so much.:kiss2: (Now) Last week...I hate sugar free stuff.:huytsao (Wait a minute while I take a drink of my Crystal Lite. Yum.) Today I hate seafood...I mean I really really hate seafood. If in two weeks during the "mushies" I post that I love tuna; the world as I know it will end! -
Need your love, support group!
cookielover replied to OregonHolly's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Holly I am right there with you girl! Last Tuesday I was so thrilled that is was the "eve" of my surgery.... Just think of all the fun you are going to have because you get to.... 1. Hanging out with cute doctors! (And you won't be wearing clothes!) 2. Speaking of clothes...at the end of the month...you may have to buy new clothes, because your old ones are too BIG! 3. You'll learn to really appreciate the fine taste of JELL-O again. 4. On all liquid diet there are hardly any dishes to do! 5. ...and there is never that pestky problem of, "what-to-make-for-dinner?" because it is always the same. Just think of all the time you will save not having to think anymore. 6. When you decide you can't watch TV or read a magazine because of those ads you just surf TMZ.com and watch how Britney Spear's life has fallen apart and then you will feel much better. Lastly...(my personal favorite because this happened to me) 7. After the surgery they give you so much CO2 gas that you bloat up...that days afterwards when your in public people ask you, "When are you due?" and since you really look pregnant you can say,"Next week!" -
Mandi- I was banded on Oct 3rd and I can totally relate to what you are saying. My plan of action for the next month is to live one day at a time. I know it sounds stupid but hear me out: when I wake up in the morning I think that today is the first day that I have been doing my new lifestyle change. When I go to bed...I think to myself that tomorrow is the last day of the new change. By doing this I never have to think of the whole month. I know it sounds crazy but it got me through the post-op diet, and it is getting me through the next month. I stay positive by looking at the before and after pixs on this web-site. I stay focused on my goal...food will always be there, hopefully there will be less of me when we meet up in the future.

I am so happy for you SONIC777!!!! Man let's fill this board up with a million good news postings! I say bring 'em on!

please tell me it gets easier !
cookielover replied to atimeforchange's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on the 3rd and I had a pain as well, but nothing to the extent of what you are talking about. If you are not consuming water you need to get to a doctor or hospital to get some fluids in you! You wont get better if you are dehydrated, and they can give you something more suitable for the pain and something to help you rest. This doesn't sound like a good situation. -
Frustrating Psych Results!!
cookielover replied to Anyalee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did not have to have a psych consult; thank God! I would have not PASSED. And you know what? My doctors (Yes I have 2) are totally aware that I would not have passed. I am bi-polar, I have OCD, and body dismorphic disorder (which is where I can never see what I really look like correctly.) I am on so many meds to stay balanced. I have been hospitialized 5 times for serious depression and med changes. Why did they let me have the surgery you ask? Well I am a very committed person (Sorry for the pun. ) I take my boat load of meds EVERY DAY regardless of the side effects. I practice my cognitive therapy skills, so I can live my life to the fullest. (6 out 10 days I accomplish that.) I work with my psych doctor weekly and follow her advice to a T. However, at first she did not want me to get the lap band, but in the end she came around. Every one I know knows I have the lap band, and that I am bipolar (not that I am bragging) it is just that I need people to understand where I am coming from, and if they don't like it-well there is the door. I have a lot of support. And lastly, I disclosed all this to the surgeons who preformed the surgery. They were impressed by my courage, and strength. We all understand that there may be manic-depressive set backs, but because I have a support system in place they were comfortable doing the surgery. -
Day 4, post-op...and I'm craving solids!
cookielover replied to catnip_addict's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It makes me feel better to know that I am not suffering alone! I too am not a fan of eggs, but I would love to have some right now. Alas, I am having apple juice and trying to figure out a way that I go into a coma for the next 32 days! :guess Oh well, just think of how fab we are going to look next summer! -
Day 4, post-op...and I'm craving solids!
cookielover replied to catnip_addict's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am on day 4 and I am just plain HUNGRY! I am sick of whey protein drinks with water(1 1/2 cup), apple juice,(1 1/2 cup) broth,(1/2 cup) and jello!(1/2 cup) That is my diet FOR THE ENTIRE DAY and I am starving! Tomorrow I get to add in pudding, yoghurt, and milk.( Hey I only have to do 10 days more of liquid before I can move to mushies!) So I am craving cheese burgers and fries -
I am paying a dietiatian(sp?) to help me get all the correct food I need with the lap band. It was very difficult to find one in Canada, but I didn't give up. I am not going this road alone. I see her in two weeks; when I start the "mushies".

You want to be careful that you are not dehydrating your body.:sick For the first few days it was really tough for me to get liquids down as well, but if it took me two hours to get 1/2 cup of Protein down then so be it. I also sip on water all day. On day 5 which is today I am finally hungry...tomorrow I can change from Clear Liquids to full liquids! :hungry:So give it your best shot! Also... I refuse to buy a scale, because I don't want to get caught up in the whole what-do-I-weigh-syndrome. My doctor will weigh me once a month and that will have to do. I have to put my faith in my new habits and the lap band. Right now I can't judge if I lost any weight, because I look 9 months pregnant.
