January Surgeries
BetsyB0101 replied to KimberlyBlakely's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know what you mean Cherryhair! First I bought some children's Tylenol meltaways. I thought that would be easier to take than liquid. I would have had to take 6 for 480 mg and when I put the first one in my mouth it tasted like pure sugar. So I spit it out. I ended up taking the Lortab elixir the doctor gave me just a few minutes ago. I hope it doesn't make me sick. I am hurting pretty bad though. I ate some jello too. Hoping that helps prevent some of the nausea. My poor tummy feels like it was run over by a truck. I think they had me on some REALLY good drugs at the hospital... I was feeling pretty good there. -

[

I am pretty sure the amount is so small that it won't have an effect. However, if you can do without then no worries. Depends on your pain tolerance. Lol! Well as long as I don't MOVE I am fine. Ugh. Man moving is a whole other story. Just about killed myself trying to get out of my bed on my own. Wow that hurt. So I might just try the Tylenol with codeine and see what happens. -

I am home! Had surgery yesterday. Doing pretty good though I am pretty sore. I have a question. I am not wanting to take the lortab elixir that they sent me home on. Codeine usually makes me nauseous. So I got some liquid Tylenol. But as I was looking at the ingredients it has sugar in it. Can I take this without side effects? -

Well I had my surgery earlier today, I guess it is yesterday now, LOL, I am doing great! This hospital is awesome. My nurses are taking wonderful care of me! I had some nausea and pain right out of surgery when I woke up but I can honestly say as of now, I have NONE! I have not been using the pain pump for awhile, I received Toradol in my IV earlier and it is all I seem to need for pain. I have had zofran for nausea and that has done the trick too. I will get my cath out later this morning and probably get to go home early afternoon. All my labs and vitals are perfect. . Thanks to everyone for helping me to not chicken out. -

I have surgery Monday too BlueTurtle! I am nervous also. I think that has to be pretty normal. The two week diet has been no fun! I feel like I am starving. The shakes actually fill me up but I want good food! I dreamed about steak one night. LOL! So yes, since I am actually not that hungry I am realizing it is head hunger more than actual hunger. Guess that is something we are going to have to get used to huh. Evening and weekends has been my worst time also. At work I tend to forget about food since I am pretty busy. Good luck on your surgery! Make sure you check in and let everyone know how you are doing!

What does your pre-op diet consist of? I start my second week on it tomorrow. It is a lot harder than I expected! I have lost 13 pounds in 6 days. I have been dreaming about food at night. Lol!My diet isn't actually that bad. I get two shakes, 3/4 cup of vegetables, 1/2 cup cottage cheese and two pieces of fruit. I can also eat as many sf Popsicles or sf Jello. I think I will do ok on it since I get two eat stuff with it. I think it would be horrible on just straight shakes! Is that what yours is?Yes. Four Protein shakes a day and Clear liquids. It is not fun. I wish I got to do what you are doing! You are lucky! -
I am on day 7 of my 14 day pre-op diet. I am allowed four protein shakes a day and clear liquids only. I have lost 13 pounds in 6 days. I am nauseous a lot and really feel awful. Anyone else have this hard of a time with the diet? I have 7 days left! Ugh! Had to take Reglan to get thru my day at work last Friday. Not looking forward to this week! I am a nurse in a pediatricians office and don't sit down all day.

Vicki, mine is January 6 and I am scared too. But I keep reminding myself of the consequences of NOT doing the surgery. My back hurts, my knees hurt, I am not enjoying life like I should be. I want that better life! Remind yourself of all the reasons you are doing this when you get scared. -

I don't have a bowel prep either. I was wondering about that. I guess my 2 week liquid diet is enough. I saw my surgeon yesterday and had my pre-surgery blood work and everything done. So far the diet is going okay. I am on day two. My surgeon said I can eat Christmas dinner tomorrow though! Said stick to low fat stuff. So I am thinking salad and turkey? -
Thank you kraney for your encouraging words.

Starting my pre-op two week protein shake diet today. The count down is starting! I am trying really hard not to freak myself out worrying. Trying to just not think about it for now. If I dwell on it too much, I will be a nervous wreck. -

Hi! My surgery is scheduled for January 6 also! I am excited and nervous both. I have a two week shake diet along with clear liquids. That starts December 23. So no Christmas dinner. but it will be fine. I just have to think about my goals for the long term and not focus on now. -
Yes Erin you are lucky! I wish mine were that easy. I am not sure how I will manage shakes for two weeks but I will do my best! I am glad to have found two more people that are having dates close to mine! Hopefully we can compare notes as we go!
-
My diet will be 2 weeks of liquid. 4 protein shakes a day plus can have clear liquids like broth. Going to be rough. And Christmas Day will be in my two weeks and I am cooking for my extended family! Yours sounds better than mine! Lol!
