What not to say to somebody who is getting a band...

A supposedly good friend told me why don't you try to lose weight on your own first?" HELLO!! I've been trying to lose for 35 years! I didn't just wake up one day and decide to have major surgery on a whim!

    Recovery?

Nothing to sugarcoat, goldygirl, it was a breeze! Five small cuts, one in my bellybutton. No catheter, no drain. One nite in the hospital. No nausea, minimal pain. The two worst things for me were not being able to sleep in the hospital and not being able to drink anything from the day of surgery until the surgeon came to see me the next day. Major dry mouth! Good luck to you, and please let us know how you are doing. Hugs:-)

    RNY OR SLEEVE?

I did all my research and was sooooo set on the sleeve. Both my surgeon and NUT recommended RNY due to my diabetes, but it waa my NUT who really convinced me. She sees all the WLS patients long term and she said she has seen RNY patients be more successful in the long run. I have a major sweet tooth, and fear of dumping has kept me away from sweets so far. Better than that, I left the hospital on only one diabetic med instead of three. One week after my surgery, my surgeon took me off my last diabetes medication! My blood sugar is now normal with no medication, yaaaaaay
