  1. Before my surgery, I read on this forum that there was a guaranteed way to avoid stalls....dont weigh yourself! Its so hard not to weigh in when we are so excited to see our progress, but it saves so much stress! You cant help but follow all the rules in the beginning, so i just weighed in when i went to see my surgeon, NUT, exercise coach, or regular doc. Im sure i had a stall, but i never realized it at the time. Sadly, i know im in one now. Had a couple of appts 3 weeks apart and didnt lose anything:-( not losing inches, either! Avoidance is easier for me than knowing im in a stall....
  2. Funny that Christie's name came up. I had been researching wls for months, then saw his story in PEOPLE magazine and that motivated me to move ahead!

    singles over 50 in nj

I would love to meet a guy that had bariatric surgery, that would be awesome! 40-55 in hawaii, are you out there?
  4. I was set on the sleeve, but my doc told me the bypass would be better because of my type 2 diabetes. It's been around the longest, so docs have the most long term info on bypass. I was worried about the malabsorbtion as well. Our program prescribes special bariatric vitamins for life. Sleeve patients take 3 a day, bypass patients take 4 a day. Btw, i was worried about dumping, but I can eat anything with no problem. Just noticed that u already had ur appt with ur surgeon. What surgery did u decide on?

    I'm new to this site

Welcome, and congratulations on the start of this new journey! Im a slow loser as well. Hang in there, we'll get there! Someone mentioned that slow losers are more likely to keep the weight off. I like that thought!
  7. I'm 5 months out from gastric bypass surgery. For better or worse, I can eat anything and everything. I have mixed feelings about this. Scared that i can eat the same things that got me in trouble in the first place, but happy that i csn enjoy a goody in moderation. I originally wanted the sleeve, but my doc suggested the bypass due to my type 2 diabetes. I also keep hearing that bypass is the "gold standard". I only wanted to do this once!

    The Slow Losers Thread

It's funny how there are a lot of slow losers out there, but we think we're the only ones in this situation. That's what I love about these boards, you can always find support from others in the same boat. Melisa, I sure hope you're right about slow losers being the ones to keep the weight off better long term. That would make us all pretty lucky in the long run. Good luck and God bless you all!
  9. Wow, that's amazing! Welcome!

  11. Woo hoo! I finally fit into a size 14 pants (in one brand, anyway)! This is honestly the first time I remember shopping outside the "women's" department, and it felt great!
  12. I had my heart set on the sleeve, but my NUT convinced me to do the bypass due to my type 2 diabetes. I was freaked out about rerouting my innards as well, but it turned out to be no big deal. I can eat anything and dont dump. You will hear this over and over again...bypass is the "gold standard" of wls, with the most history and greatest chsnce of success. My NUT said her bypass patients do better at keeping the weight off. All that being said, definitely do all the research you can, and talk to your wls team as well to see what your best option is. I was super stressed cause i got talked into switching surgeries at the last minute. I dont regret it for a minute! Good luck to you, please keep us posted!

    Surgery in 5 hours...

Im so sorry for all you have been through, that sounds incredibly rough! The way you were treated is absolutely shameful! Is there another doctor in that practice you could switch to? I hope things are good with you and your fiance! Please keep us posted! God bless!
  14. Sorry to hear you're struggling! I actually gained in the first week after surgery due to all the fluids they pump us full of. My friend gained, too. Before you know it, you'll be losing! Feel better soon!

    No more excuses!

Congrats on your weight loss and you healthy new attitude. Keep up the good work!
  22. Before my bypass, I was on three oral meds for type 2 diabetes and one for hypertension. When I left the hospital after my surgery, I was only on one medication for diabetes. A week later, that one was gone as well. My blood sugar is normally between 95-115 since surgery. Not great yet, but pretty darned good. i'm hoping my numbers will continue to go down as I lose more weight. Good luck to you!
  23. patticake1448

    Lots of questions! Lol

Sorry, i'm not from Michigan. I do know that every surgeon and insurance company has different requirements. Search around for a surgeon you're comfortable with and do your research on them. Good luck to you!
