I could cry tears of joy

What wonderful news! Congrats! I hope you are out celebrating today!!!
  3. Yes, you will be okay, but you and your husband need to take some steps to get you help today. No, this is not normal practice. This is incompetence. I'd get on the phone to the surgeon right now and there would be flames on the phone lines! If you do not get satisfactory help there, go to the emergency room. Work your way up the hierarchy, if necessary. Pain is an indicator that something is wrong. It slows your healing (physically and emotionally). You should be given a prescription for a strong pain reliever (probably a narcotic) that you can pick up today. Tylenol is certainly not adequate and you were right--NSAIDS like Advil are never to be taken by RNYers. I would call the Director of Nursing tomorrow and report the incident about the horse pills and the Advil. At the very least, if there was discussion of a potential leak and no follow up, then either they need to take follow up measures NOW or give you a very clear and understandable explanation of why no action is needed. Hopefully, you husband will be a strong advocate for you. Take good care of yourself. I hope this will all be behind you in a day or two. Good luck!

  5. -- Kraft Foods Group Inc. is voluntarily recalling some of its Kraft and Polly-O string cheese because they may spoil and change color before the expiration date on the packages. The Northfield, Ill., company said Friday that about 735,000 cases of the affected products were shipped to customers in the U.S. They have "Best When Used By" dates from Oct. 25 through Feb. 11. Kraft says it issued the recall after receiving several reports from consumers about cheese going bad. The company has ceased the production and distribution of the affected products and is investigating the problem. The affected products were made in a plant in Campbell, N.Y. Consumers should not eat the recalled product and should return it for an exchange or refund. For more information, contact Kraft Foods Consumer Relations at 1-800-816-9432 between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. (Eastern).

    My body is protesting....

Tap water is kind of boring, but I keep a pitcher of water in the fridge and enjoy that cold zap. It's as close as I get to my old diet Pepsi! LOL

The Count Down Begins for Boob job :)

Sorry, Kasper. I'm not going anywhere. Thanks, but save your prayers for yourself. They say you can't fix some things, but you can always try.

The Count Down Begins for Boob job :)

I did not make that woman leave the forum. If she didn't like my posts she could have ignored or blocked them. It was solely her choice to leave the forum and she specifically did not state why she was leaving. I reject your premise and your accusations. How do you know she has no support system whatsoever? That is an unfounded assumption on your part, so it is purely illogical to say it is my fault she has no support. If you are such a good friend of hers, surely you can email or phone her to check on her and provide support. Have you done that yet??? I don't know why you feel the need to try to bully me, but I couldn't possibly care less what you think. I do not heed or respect the opinions of a person I do not respect.

Nurse said Could be denied so nervous.

They know that pre-op diets are not particularly successful. There is plenty of statistical evidence of that. But they need to press you to do your very best during that process. You'd be surprised at how many people just blow it off and spend the pre-op time right up to the night before surgery, gorging on food (often called food funerals). I don't know how tactful the nurse was, but staff also tries to help you be aware that there are no guarantees in the process. A fair number of patients are denied surgery and have to appeal to get the operation. Do not be discouraged! Think of this as an exercise in strengthening your determination and your focus on your goals. Do the best you can each day, and when that day is done, learn from it and move on. Good luck!

    My body is protesting....

Do you think you might be coming down with a case of pre-op nerves or maybe the flu? We all get the jitters before surgery and for some that means tummy troubles as well.

    rny / sleeve

I also thought by going the distance with the RNY, I would avoid the possible need for sleeve and band revisions that I was reading about. However, there are other things to consider, like not being able to take NSAIDS ever again. If you develop arthritis as you age, you will miss out on a major class of pain relievers. I'm way past that point and about to have my 2nd joint replacement, but it is a valid concern.

    rny / sleeve

With such a small group, it's hard to draw any conclusions. At the larger center I went to, the pre-op classes might have 50 people so there was a lot of diversity. Wishing you smooth sailing ahead!
  14. Your doctor's preference for you not subsisting on Protein shakes is unusual, but I'm sure he has good reasons. However, if it is a choice between getting inadequate protein which your body really needs to heal or getting your protein from a shake, logic suggests that you should do what you need to do to get your protein. Good luck and hope you feel better soon!

Not everyone chooses to display all their private information in their profile. It is a matter of privacy, not subversion. Why would you think this implies some evil intent?

by RHY, is a go, NOV 21's

Thank you for clarifying. I'm so sorry that your bile reflux is pushing you towards something you don't want. It is obviously very difficult, which makes me think all the more that having professional guidance to support your through this would be a huge help. I hope that when you get through the surgery, you will find as many of us have, that it is the best thing you've ever done for yourself. It is a major change, but it is very doable. Sending you prayers and big hugs!

    rny / sleeve

While the bypass is technically reversible, it is very, very rarely done. I was told it might be done in some cases of stomach cancer, but that too is rare. I didn't think it wise to include that factor in my ultimate decision to go with the RNY. Besides, I didn't want to go into this thinking there was an "out". To be successful, I learned I really had to accept to the core of my being that I was making a permanent and positive change to my body in order to be healthy and happy. I hope you can find similar peace with your decision.

    rny / sleeve

Don't get discouraged. I started out thinking I wanted the band because it is reversible, then learned the downsides. Next I looked at the sleeve, but reading some studies that pointed out some concerns with the long term effects. I know many people are happy with their sleeves, but I am older and a revision would not be an option for me if the sleeve didn't prove helpful. In the end, I chose RNY for its track record. Initially, I was put off by the plumbing rearrangement, but my surgeon has done about 6,000 WLS, so I figured he has this all down pat by now. I sailed through surgery and my first months of recovery. I'm very glad I had this done and only wish I'd had it six years earlier when I first looked into it. All things in due time, I guess. It helps to read the posts on various forums about the different surgeries to learn what issues may arise. You just have to keep in mind that most posts are from the small subset of people with issues--the thousands who haven't had problems are out living their lives. Best wishes on your journey!

    Horror stories?!?

Indira, I'm very sorry that your thread was hijacked. MsShay seems to have an issue with me and my efforts to be helpful. I hope this will stop here and others will step in to give you the information you requested. Best wishes.

    Horror stories?!?

If you read my 2nd post, you will see that I was asking a question of fact, not being rude. I wasn't accusing her of being a troll, I was asking if she was and I explained why. Can you see the distinction? Again, get the facts before being judgmental please.

    Horror stories?!?

Shay, apparently you leaped to an erroneous judgment and did not read the facts it the posts which followed that. The poster and I quickly came to an understanding and moved on. If you are going to harp at me for being judgmental, I suggest you look at the facts before throwing stones. Now can we be done with this ridiculous crap?

On the contrary, there is a very good likelihood that as a taxpayer, I am indeed footing part of the bill for the public aid money used to take care of her kids, so yes, I do think I have a right to be pissed. And you should be too if you are a taxpayer. My opinion is based solely on the facts and statements in her own posts. If there are other mitigating facts, she did not include them. Yes, you are right that what she chooses to do with her own money is her business, except when she is qualifying for public aid to pay for her family's necessities. That aid requires people to use their own money to support their own families and then any unmet needs beyond their resources are paid by public aid. That rules out luxuries like cosmetic surgery. In order to get public aid, she would normally have to fill out forms listing the money and assets she has available to meet her family's expenses and then sign a statement that says it is a true account of all her assets. If she applied for aid and told them she had money set aside for breast surgery, they would almost certainly refuse her request for aid and tell her to first use her own savings to buy food and supplies for her kids. No vanity surgery allowed on welfare. That's the law, not my opinion. On the other hand, if she applied for aid and didn't tell them she had thousands of dollars in hidden savings, then she has committed fraud. I'm sorry the woman is in such a difficult place in her life and I truly hope she gets all the help she needs, but that does not excuse her taking advantage of other people for purposes of her own vanity.

    Horror stories?!?

Ok. Glad we got that sorted out. May I offer a bit of advice? You may hear stories, but there are some important things to keep in mind. Many of the stories people pass on are about a friend of a friend's 2nd cousin (or some such distant relationship) who supposedly had such and such a problem. The first problem is that the facts are often distorted and exaggerated in the retelling because everyone loves to tell a good dramatic story, especially if they are trying to persuade you not to have surgery. You can never be sure what their agenda may be. The second problem is that you never know the details of the other person's physical condition, their age, any co-morbidities which may have contributed to the situation, how well they followed their program before and after surgery, whether they followed the surgeon's instructions precisely---or did they do something stupid like not going to the ER when complications arose or tried to eat a steak 2 days after surgery, etc.... Some people make mind-boggling choices. A friend of my family developed an infection and blood clot after surgery. It was a weekend and instead of following her doctor's instructions and calling him to report any problem or going to the ER when she had very clear symptoms of a clot and an infection, she decided not to disturb her doctor on the weekend with a phone call and not to spend $75 to go to the ER. She died when the clot broke loose. She was a warm and wonderful woman, but she made two terrible choices. Sad, but her story doesn't signify anything for your likely journey other than a warning to call your doctor or go to the ER if you have concerns. So while such stories may make you aware of some potential complications or issues, your journey will be very specifically your own, depending on your condition and history and how well you do with your program. There is so much to learn about WLS and the lifestyle changes you have to make before surgery and every day of your life thereafter. It's good to seek out information, but try to keep a balanced view and don't add unnecessarily to your own natural jitters by filling your mind with supposed horror stories. They bring you down and sap your energy just when you need to be focused on your own health and well-being. All that said, if you read the thousands of posts on this forum and several similar ones you'll learn an awful lot about the challenges people have faced, as well as see the support they've gotten and how they have worked towards solutions. I hope this helps and that you will enjoy your journey and have the weight loss you seek. I sailed through surgery and recovery, even though I am older and have heart trouble, and am so thrilled with the results. I wish you similar happiness!

Suit yourself, but if you are going to complain about someone or something, it is helpful if you can explain and stand up for your opinion. No need to be defensive, just explain your view so the other person can understand your position and you can hopefully reach an understanding. Have a nice evening!
