Gas Pain Returned A Week Later?
TurnThePage replied to CrissyRing77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If there is ANY risk of infection you need to call your doctor or go to the ER IMMEDIATELY. I lost a friend who had a post-op infection and didn't want to bother her doctor on the weekend. Otherwise, are you perhaps constipated, more than you realize? Try Milk of Magnesia to clear out your system. It is unlikely to be gas at this point. -
What To Expect When They Wake Me Up In Recovery!
TurnThePage replied to MinnesotaDreaming23's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are completely over-thinking this! RELAX!! Everyone's experience is different. The hospital staff will do their best to see that you are comfortable. -
If you've done your research, you know that the risks of this surgery are not significantly different than any other major surgery. You wouldn't pass up appendix surgery for risk of dying on the operating table---you're much more likely to die if you don't do it. Same with obesity.

Explain to your husband that studies have shown that only 2% to 5% of morbidly obese people succeed in losing their excess weight and keeping the weight off over the long term by diet and exercise alone. Thus your chances of failure doing it the way he suggests are 95% or better. In men's terms: If you car had a flat tire, would you try to pick it up yourself to change the tire? No, you'd use a tool--a jack--then change the tire and get on with your life. Well, WLS is a tool, too. It's the correct tool to get the weight off and get on with a healthier, happier life.

What Damage Have I Done?
TurnThePage replied to lose.n.8's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Trying different brands of shakes is the way to go. You can order sample packs from unjury, Bariatric Advantage, BJs Bariatric, Nashua Nutrition, Bariatric Choice and many websites. Whether or not you like the shakes, you do have to get as much Protein each day as you can. Your body needs it to heal from the surgery. Temperature can also be a factor; I liked mine really cold over ice, others do better with warm drinks like the Unjury chicken Soup. Its savory flavor is also a welcome change from all the sweet drinks. You can also add unflavored Protein powder to broth and many slider foods like yogurt. You also need to increase your hydration towards the 64 oz per day target. Dehydration feels awful and can quickly become serious. This is the time to strengthen your resolve and do what needs to be done, not what you prefer. I doubt you injured your pouch and applaud your effort to find a solution. Hope you will get together with your surgeon and NUT this coming week to get set on a plan that works for you. Take good care of yourself! -
It might be good for you and your husband to meet jointly with the surgeon to go over the risks of having the surgery vs. the risks of remaining obese. Both of you should go into the appointment with a list of questions to be sure you get them all answered. That way you and your husband will both have the same info and can support each other through the process. Best wishes.

Confessions!of A Pre-Op Drama Queen!
TurnThePage replied to sleevinIT's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hon, if graduating high school was the worst thing that has happened to you, you are leading a magical, charmed life! Change is a good thing. It is what helps us learn and grow and experience all the wonders of life. However, if you are truly so crippled by your anxiety at 18, it would be best to postpone this surgery and put your energies into therapy for your anxiety. Later, when you have gained more emotional balance you will be much better prepared for the ups and downs that come after your surgery when you are committed to a restrictive food plan and a daily exercise program. It means learning a whole new way of eating and living and is like having a part time job. It brings a myriad of changes to your life every day. While you have the joys of losing weight and getting healthier, you will have to do some things you don't want to do simply because they must be done in order to succeed. At times, that takes a great deal of courage and determination. It doesn't sound like you are up to that challenge yet at this stage of your life and might be easily overwhelmed. A counselor with expertise in weight loss could be a huge help to you now. Best wishes for your journey! -
Considering Liposuction
TurnThePage replied to chibabyy's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Any type of cosmetic surgery is usually not recommended until 6 months after your weight stabilizes at the end of your weight loss. You're about a year and a half early. You might be trading a bad situation for a much worse and uglier one, with lots of loose skin draping over your (possibly lumpy) liposuctioned thighs. I would be surprised if any reputable plastic surgeon would even consider operating at this stage.Thigh skin is thin and fragile and you don't want to try multiple surgeries. A far better alternative would be to invest your money in a trainer to help you work on toning your legs and also buying Spanx in various sizes as you shrink.. -
Congrats! As long as you are new to SoCal, be sure to take in the Newport Harbor Christmas boat parade in mid-December. It is rated as one of the top 10 Christmas events in the nation. Hundreds of elaborately decorated yachts sail in a parade around the harbor for 5 nights while people party at the restaurants, bars and homes on the waterfront. Half a million people come to see it each year! Enjoy! Also check out the Christmas decorations at Roger's Gardens in Newport Beach, a local holiday tradition.

Confessions!of A Pre-Op Drama Queen!
TurnThePage replied to sleevinIT's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yep, you are a drama queen. ;-> Time to relax! I don't know where you got that silly idea from, but that's all it is, a silly idea. People start looking up old friends as the holidays near--nothing more than that. Enjoy the reconnecting, but don't read anything else into it. You are going to be fine as long as you stop worrying and stressing yourself. People do this every day and then go home from the hospital and get on with their lives---healthier and happier than ever before. I am at least twice your age and I sailed through surgery and recovery! Pain meds the day after surgery, but didn't need anything after that. No nausea. Went home by myself, took care of myself and started working the following week. If I can do this, so can you. If you continue to fret, make an appointment and go talk with a therapist. Take good care of yourself and stop worrying. You are going to be just fine! -
First Two Weeks Post-Op
TurnThePage replied to MindiJean's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The only thing that is expected is that you have done your best to work towards meeting your daily protein and water goals and taken good care of yourself. Everything else will follow in due time, just stick with your program! -

Occ Surgery Question
TurnThePage replied to SoCalMomOfFour's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Highly unlikely, but if the situation arises, ask you mom to step out of the room or tell the medical person you want to do this in private. Yay for your mom, going along to support you! You're very lucky she's got your back! -
Quit The Darn Whining
TurnThePage replied to bearman99's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
THREE CHEERS FOR YOU!!!! Finally, somebody gets it!!!! It's tiresome to see people people worrying about every single last possible problem. It's good to educate oneself in case problems arise, but obsessing over maybes is such a waste of time and energy. This is a long process, so it's really helpful to take it one step at a time, one day at a time. Wishing you all the best. May Santa redistribute your excess pounds to needy skinnies around the world! LOL -
Day Two Post Op & So Much Pain
TurnThePage replied to HotMessPrincess's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You need to call your doctor in the morning and get a prescription pain med. Pain slows healing so you need to get ahead of the curve, get meds and take them on schedule. Not all of us need pain meds, but if you do, get them and take them. Gas pain is a major problem for many. Best solutions are to walk, walk, walk and to take Gas-X. The strips give faster relief than the little gel caps, but both work. Some people say a heating pad helps soothe the tummy. You're doing okay with your Water and should be able to have more in a few days. It may be easier if you have the water at room temp or warm. Take good care of yourself. It will get easier! -
Ins Approved But Hasn't Sent Auth To Surgeon
TurnThePage replied to Tammy wright's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
For pete's sake, don't these people have fax machines??? There's no reason a copy of the authorization can't be faxed to the surgeon in 5 minutes. Call the insurance company and the doctor's office and get them moving! Sheesh. -
Could be dehydration or low blood pressure. My BP dropped quite a bit after surgery. Dangerous if driving or causes a fall. Call your doctor.

Anyone Eldest Hips Start To Bother Them After Loss?
TurnThePage replied to kvdme's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You may want to see an orthopedic specialist for a proper diagnosis and treatment plan and not go for just symptomatic relief from a chiropractor. Could be a lot of arthritis caused by joint damage. -
How Do You Know When To Stop Eating?
TurnThePage replied to sweetie022972's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Eat your specified portion size (perhaps 2 oz at your current stage), but no more. Period. Your stomach nerves have been cut, so you may not feel a sense of fullness in the way you used to; some people never have that feeling again. Your body may give you other cues, so pay attention for those. -
If you are getting less than 800 calories at this stage, old one, it may be the reason you are stalling out. Probably should be more in the 800-1,000 range. Do what you need to do to get your Protein and Water in each day. Good luck.
-
Your caloric intake may be too low and your body straining to avoid "famine". Sit down and review your food and Fluid intake and exercise logs with the NUT and re-group. No, you are not done losing yet--just stalled. Happens to virtually all of us.

Take a brief walk instead of eating.
