2days out from gastric bypass
TurnThePage replied to fourkids4's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
No. Call your doctor. -
Journaling or talking to a therapist can help you get to the bottom of these new feelings.

When and how often did you stall?
TurnThePage replied to AutumnPunkin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't understand parts of your post about sleepers (sleevers?) and spatters. Keep in mind that everyone's journey is unique. There are some patterns like the week 3 stall that many experience, but not all. No point worrying about them at this point. The important thing to accept and remember is that your weight loss chart will look more like a stair case than a ski slope no matter which type of surgery you have, so you have to be patient while your body adjusts to all the changes. There are things you can try, such as increasing your Water, exercise or Protein, but you have to tinker with the balance a bit until you hit a combination that works for you. If you opt to have the surgery and do experience a stall, talk with your surgeon's support staff and check the better message boards for advice. RNY is a wonderful gift of good health, but like all WLS procedures, it is a tool, not a magic bullet. Good luck! -
Day 3 of liquid diet and having leg cramps.
TurnThePage replied to CaliGal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bananas help with low potassium, but still call your drs. office tomorrow please. You don't want to be eating a banana and find out you're having a blood clot! -
I don't think the soy Protein gives you the same quality of protein as the recommended whey protein isolate. On another thread, someone posted her tested protein levels were low even though she is having 4 shakes a day and other natural Proteins. She is drinking a protein mix of 3 types of protein including soy protein, the good whey protein isolate and something else I'd not heard of before. Suggests to me these other cheaper proteins are a waste of money and a nutritional scam. Be cautious and ask your doctor's office about the soy protein. I don't think you're getting what you think you're getting nutritionally or for your money. Take good care of yourself!

Weight loss stopped

Keep in mind that your weight loss chart will look more like a staircase than a ski slope and the inevitable stalls will be less frustrating. -

Potassium deficiency? -
Saw my surgeon this morning and he said to aim for 1,000. More than 1,200 or less than 800 will cause a stall. I don't think MFP factors in that you've had WLS and your body is functioning differently, does it?

Too sweet protein :(
TurnThePage replied to KristieRerouted's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
The unjury chicken Soup Protein mix is my salvation. The savory flavor is a welcome change from the sweet drinks. You can also mix unflavored protein with chicken, beef or turkey broth, but I prefer their soup mix. You might also try Carnation's Breakfast Essentials (blue box is the sugar free version) to make a chocolate milk drink. Made with 1% milk, it has 21g of protein. Unjury's Chocolate Splendor is very good, especially over ice. Not as sweet as the fruit flavored things. Try to get sample packs of the various protein mixes before you buy in quantity to save yourself expensive mistakes. Bariatric Advantage has free samples if you call. Unjury has a sample pack for $14 or $21, depending where you order from. BJ's Bariatrics has a good 10 pack of Syntrax nectar samples. It also helps to thin some of the mixes down with more Water or milk if they are too sweet. I got tired of the thick shake like consistency so hand mix many of my drinks to make it more like flavored milk. Almost always, I prefer to have them icy cold--much easier to take! -
I put the tuna in the microwave with wax paper over it for 15 seconds. Stir, sprinkle a little shredded cheddar on top and microwave for another 10 seconds. Instant tuna melt! Or make tuna salad with a bit of low fat may or dressing and eat without the bread. Maybe a cracker or two if you are far enough out from surgery.

Always advisable to eat very small portions of new foods when you introduce them so you can assess how they affect you. -
Yes, of course other people have had strictures. Go to the top right hand of the page and search stricture for previous discussions. Hope you feel better soon.

Finally approved but terrified!
TurnThePage replied to LessofKat's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Talk to your PCP or therapist about your anxiety and see if meds might be helpful. This would be a good time to do some reading about stress management. Your hospital or community may offer stress management classes, yoga or other tools. Writing a journal is also a good way to identify your worries. Once you clearly articulate them, you can use your critical thinking skills to see their true insignificance. You can use the only 2 columns on paper exercise to identify the concern and then in the other column, offer yourself counter-arguments and solutions. Then... Leap! And the net will appear! -
Waiting on insurance..
TurnThePage replied to blapstev's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sort of like waiting to open your Christmas presents as a child, isn't it? Hope you will take a long walk in the sunshine and enjoy this lovely autumn day. Keep up posted on your progress. Wishing you all the best! -
If you put the doctor's name in the title you are much more likely to get a response. Title is to generic.

What do I need to pack?
TurnThePage replied to Mid West's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You won't need most of that since you'll be sleeping a lot. Of all the things I packed, I only used: Toothbrush & toothpaste hairbrush phone charger chap stick crossword puzzle book Wore the same clothes home as I wore coming in since I only had them on for an hour or so. I just wore a comfy jogging jacket and pants. Good luck on your new adventure! -
Hormel canned chili has been my salvation during this phase. I have a 1/4 c serving, 30 secs in the microwave, then sprinkle on a little bit of shredded cheddar and nuke again for 20 seconds. Heavenly. Best eaten during the day rather than the evening so it doesn't sit heavy and affect my sleep.

Congratulations! You look very handsome!

The Count Down Begins for Boob job :)

Wouldn't the welfare of your children (getting them out of an abusive and unhappy home) take priority over plastic surgery? -
The Count Down Begins for Boob job :)
TurnThePage replied to TinyMamiOf3kids's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Excuse me but didn't you file for divorce last Thursday? I thought you didn't have enough money to move yourself and your kids to a safe place, away from an abusive husband, but now you are getting a boob job. Did I miss an episode? I am so confused by this drama series. I don't understand, but I do wish you well. It seems like this is a very difficult time for you. -
A year and a half out....
TurnThePage replied to kristy3k's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
In addition to the weight, you seem to have lost quite a few years! Congrats! You look fabulous! -
Last supper syndrome.
TurnThePage replied to kkelly37's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Otherwise known as food funerals, very common. Just one caution--don't do this right before your surgery so you won't risk having surgery canceled due to a fatty liver. You will be able to have some of those favorites again, but it will be down the road several months and in much smaller portions. -
I had multiple rounds of ulcers and then took the course of antibiotics for H. Pylori and have not had any more ulcers in the 20+ years since.
