Friday: Matters of the Mind
MisforMimi replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Needed this one today! I'm going into my 3 month post-op appointment on Monday and I'm feeling a little nervous. I don't want to compare myself with others (that is a rookie move that will leave me feeling horrible) but I'm not a super-satisfied with my progress. And that is for me to change and no one else. There are things I could be more diligent about - like water consumption. I hate it and I know there have been several days where I just don't drink any. Like none. Really. My protein consumption is not up to the 80g everyday. I used to be religious and now I'm like eh. These are all things I have the power to change. Imagine how pissed I would be if my success was determined by someone else?? I'd be knocking that person around saying chop chop whats the hold-up?! Point being... I'm not giving up! -

Anybody else rockin' THICK natural hair glad to see some shedding! LOL -
Congratulations! First of all. I had the bypass and I was back to work in 2 weeks. I would say if possible stay as long as you can in the hospital and let them manage your post-op pain and see that you can tolerate your new diet. I stayed in the hospital 3 nights and 4.5 days. I napped a lot when I got home. I did not do a lot of chores. But I was absolutely fine going back to work then." A" game and all. For about a month, I would get home, see about my kids and then I was in bed at about 8:00pm. Just imagine how on your A game you will be when that weight starts dropping!! Your new employer will see your confidence at its highest! Good luck to you!

Want to Be Skinny? Start Acting Like It
MisforMimi replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
Another thing I was thinking and would add to this that I noticed the last time I was thinner and a naturally thin person pointed out to me that many ex-fat folks still hold their bodies in space like a fat person. For instance, many us still hunch forward when we walk if we had large bellies or move our legs funny if we previously had large thighs. I was told to visualize a string coming from the top of my head to the sky to get the proper alignment. Also, we tend to lumber and galumph around not being aware that our gait can change to a more relaxed look since we are not hauling around so much weight. Sometimes, I do little spot checks to make sure I am standing tall and walking like a normal person. -
Lost to much weight?
MisforMimi replied to going2servive's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First of all congratulations on your success! I'm certainly not having that problem but there are potential benefits to a more relaxed pace in the weight loss category: 1) You do not have the explain the sudden and rapid weight loss to others 2) Others will not be worried for your safety so soon, they save for when you are closer to goal weight 3) you could potentially avoid problems with your gall bladder 4) your skin will have some measured amount of time to catch to build collagen and elastin stores and *may* not sag as significantly as it would with rapid weight loss 5) you don't have to scramble as fast to get clothes together that will fit you 6) you *may* slow or avoid hair loss issues 7) you will more time to emotionally, physically, psychologically deal with the changes associated with weight loss Follow you surgeon's advice especially if you've have good experiences with him...Keep up the good work! -
@@GenaH, I will look around this weekend at home. I have a list of state wide support. They are a combination of hospitals, surgical centers, overeater's anonymous meetings and a few informal ones. There is also a Washington State Bariatrics Group on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1374712279498252/

So I've seen a lot of vloggers on YouTube about WLS, specific surgeries and weight loss in general. Who if anyone do you follow? Who's worth watching from beginning to end? Thoughts?

Crowd-sourcing: Hey Everyone, Kay Feather aka primal and I started a WLS support group out of what we thought was a real need in the community for face-to-face support and the opportunity to put faces to names, profile pics and avatars. It has met a few times on the Northend/Bothell area. The attendance has been hit-or miss since its inception last November. I'm wanting to throw out there a couple of questions and hoping to get some responses. Do you need face-to-face support beyond what is offered at your care facility? What would increase or decrease the chance of you attending? If you like the idea of a meet-up in what forum (cafe, church, restaurant etc), location (north, south, east, central), what topics would you like to see addressed or appeals most? Would you be interested in events like hikes or races? Or are you happy with on-line support and support from your surgery facility's . Thanks everyone for your feedback in advance!

Can I get a hug and maybe some guidance?
MisforMimi replied to ilikecake2much's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hey ilikecake2much and welcome. Your story sounds like many ppl here. I was not excited for surgery probably until 2 days before I had it and I had thought about for a year, had a 6 months supervised diet etc etc etc. I has been a hard transition with family and kids and it can (but it doesn't have to) put a strain on relationships. Maybe you can inspire changes that will benefit your husband's weight loss and it will certainly impact your kids. Your decision to have WLS is as public as you decide to make it. You don't owe anyone anything but you do owe it to yourself and perhaps your kids to get healthy and you are making the necessary steps to get there. We all need to get REAL selfish and self-interested for a while, but as a mom you will always be the backbone and support for your family. Keep coming to these forums for support. Nearly every topic has been mentioned at least once and you can use the search tool to find them. -
Abdominal Overhanging Tissue
MisforMimi replied to Jazziejt's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That area is called the pannus and some insurance companies will pay for its removal depending on how many inches it hangs over pubic bone and what kind of uncomfortable conditions arise as a result think yeast, chaffing, odors, infections....
