Your response to: "but you aren't 'THAT' big!"

I'm not telling work for sure and I'm only telling the friends that I know typically have a deep direct spiritual connect that I want to know and that I want prayers and energy from sent while I'm on the table!! -
Your response to: "but you aren't 'THAT' big!"

I just thought of another one I could use: My insurance company believes that my health status is a concern and a liability. I agree with them. They are willing to pay for surgical intervention. Again, I agree with them as other methods have proven unsuccessful....ha! That one might be for co-workers, tho.....if/when it comes up... -

Sugar free diet yet against aspartame
MisforMimi replied to MUA's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hear ya, and so contradictory to whole foods and healthier habits. I tried a sugar free pudding the other day and this what happened, in this order....(I'm presurgery mind you).....gag.........yucky after taste.... OK, I want another one.....mind says, I bet the one with sugar tastes better......where are my keys?.....Lol There are Protein powders sweetened with stevia out there. You could also make your own, but in terms of the ready to go convenience foods, artificial sweeteners rule the roost. But i have to be careful and follow the rules though at least at the beginning when the sugar free stuff is required. I know when I start eating real foods the restriction kicks in.....and no artificially sweetened stuff is required..... -

@@layknee Are you having surgery at the hospital you work in? If not, you don't have much to worry about. You don't Sr most of the staff again. But you are right, their is a prejudice against fat people in the medical field. Doctors talk about patients on the table all.the.time. Not all, but some do. Not only on the table but in the clinic, behind closed doors, too. This is probably not the case in bariatrics, but I work in Ortho and sometimes folks are insensitive. I chose a different facility/network for that very reason. Yes, there is HIPAA but that doesn't always stop gossip, ppl just cant look in your chart. I'm not keeping my surgery totally a secret but I didn't want everybody knowing all my business. Good Luck to you! -
Thought I was all set on the sleeve until.....
MisforMimi posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my first consult with my surgeon today. It was informative and we spent minimal time together because I am relatively healthy and I think I had done enough research. I thought this was a pretty much a done deal, even though I knew a lot of reasons why ppl choose the RNY. But something she said struck me. She said if were to have a hypothetical patient with the bypass and sleeve that had a complication or a leak (rare, we know) and you lined up a group of surgeons and asked which patient they would choose to fix, she said hands down the surgeons would pick the RNY! She said a patient that has a leak with the sleeve is so serious and complicated that person may not be able to eat normally for a long while and its a long recovery. Because the RNY has been around for 40 years all surgeons know how to fix anything that could go wrong really well. And a leak in the sleeve is like "oh lord" 'hands-to-face'. She was being tongue and cheek, but for someone whose very concerned about potential complications and the risk of anesthesia, my ears certainly perked up. Her complication rates are exceptionally low. One leak in a RNY in 12 years of practice and none in the sleeve, although she is fixing leaks from patients who had the surgery out of state. For a person who has solely been trolling the sleeve pages pre-op, I'm definitely gonna be around here a little more until my decision is made. -

Felt the exact same way. But apparently now they know that area, the left over tummy secretes gastric juices/enzymes that aid in digestion. They just meet up on down the line, so to speak....Lol -

Thanks. Me, too. I know it was part of the duodenal switch procedure, but I think what she was getting at was more surgeons have performed more rnys over the years and the sleeve has resurfaced as an option for the masses rather recently and yes both procedures carry risk for leaks, but the case of the sleeve it's such a loooooong surface area that could potentially leak versus the rny. Luckily, we're talking about exceptions and not the rule! :-) -
I thought ketosis was a good thing for ppl trying to loose weight. Basically, you/we are forcing to the body to break down fat for fuel as opposed to carbs, releasing ketones....that's kinda the point, I thought. But do call your physician if you are concerned, maybe check-in with a nurse in the office or someone.

I ain't even gonna lie, I could see myself doing something like that. I guess you didn't want surgery....today. That could change, no? have you made a list? Think about all the prep work you have done...And why you chose this path in the first place...I'm sure those on the other side would say this ain't for everybody......

Need some experienced weight losers
MisforMimi replied to Flaxseed's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
I haven't had WLS yet but I have lost 140# in the past and maintained it for several years..prior to ending up here. I passed the 6 month supervised weight requirement by my insurance. By the skin of my teeth....At one point I had to give up the fantasy that I was gOing to drop all this weight and shift my goal to maintenance. That meant I needed to increase my exercise and gain some control over what I was putting in my mouth. It was HARD. What I hear from you...is somehow you have to gain back your sense of freedom around this requirement if you don't have the cash go to MX. The perception can be shifted to this being something YOU want versus something THEY are making you do. I have a mental block when it comes to anything feeling like authority and I rebel every. single. time. Don't let it be coming from a male or a white person, then I'm one step away from a full-on tantrum!! Needless to say, I've done many stints of therapy and a stint in recovery support groups (alcoholic dad) to work out my issues. I've found Geneen Roth helpful over the years, too. There is a reason people binge and overeat and it's usually a good one and WLS won't fix the reasons for any of us. -
I have to pay more than quoted!
MisforMimi replied to cjenkins74's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Since it was their error, maybe they you can ask for a monthly payment schedule for the 14 hundred. That's a lot of money. -

James, I was so moved by the earnestness of your story and your willingness to be so exacting in your process. I will be following some of your recipes to a "T"! Thank you for sharing your story. I bet those grand-kids are getting a real kick out of their now "spry" grandpa! -

Post Op Food Discouraged
MisforMimi replied to RavensAngel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The problem is that the volume of vegetables you would have to consume would be too much....even though there is lots of protein in vegetables. I hate the taste of artificial sugar but at least for the first six months to a year, I'm willing to follow the instructions given....to get the results I'm seeing around here. As our tummies heal, metabolisms reset, I'm sure the artificial sweeteners can subside and real food can be consumed. I read that someone found a protein powder sweetened with s t evia....I spent many years being a fat know it all vegan....I literally cannot tolerate wheat, corn or soy...I think the processed foods are temporary... -
I just received a voice mail from my nurse case manager through Regence. I have survived my 6 month supervised weight loss program and my referral has been sent to the center of excellence that I choose. I should be receiving a call in 7 days to schedule my first consult. Holy Schnikes, batman! Sooooooo excited!

What is everyone NOT going to miss after sleeve?
MisforMimi replied to alexsisv's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well it finally happened today. I was walking to the car and when I got in my daughter (only 4) said, Mama your stomach looks big in a very matter of fact tone. Just like she was stating the obvious without judgment. And I horrified, mumbled something like. Oh, uh? She is my motivation to get in control of my health and eating. I want to be a good example. She's been blessed with the other sides physique. She is long lean and very muscular and active. Hopefully, I can be smaller by the time she starts elementary school....a sad as that sounds...
