@@scientist35 I'm one day behind you!
  2. @@dmaddox1, Your pre-op diet sounds similar to mine. I am also allowed sugar free Jello, pudding and broths, and I can add reduced fat milk to my shakes....I would definitely check-in, maybe they have allowances that will make this more tolerable for you. Good luck
  3. Yea, I say no beating yourself up! Head up....move forward toward your goals. I think the name of the game is going to be figuring out how to move through life's challenges without that constant companion we all know and love and HATE!! You got this...maybe breaking up or taking time off is a good thing now to help you focus your attention on the task at hand...reclaiming your health!

@@anaxila, We are going through the same thing sorta about employment, well maybe. I'm one of 2 final candidates for a new position (same employer, different site). Offers will be made next week. I'm going to have to tell them that my surgery is scheduled 1/15, it is somewhat flexible, but I've gotten my heart, mind set on the date. My pre-op diet would start 1/1. Anyways, if I get the position I want to be flexible but also consider how much work I've done in preparation and I can only take 2 weeks off. With a new job, that's all I feel comfortable with. I'm nervous about a general anesthetic. Never had one. My daughter had her tonsils out and got a general only for 30 minutes, tho. No problem. I think was a little freaky for her. She was so brave, so mommy has to be brave too! LOL...both my parents have done well with generals, so not likely to be an issue... I'm excited to be off BP meds, wear new cute clothes, feel comfortable in swimsuit and swim in my pool.

I have been dreaming of what my new style will be when I can stop shopping the clearance rack at Lane Bryant. I'm definitely going for some tomboy chic- skinny, ripped distressed jeans, over-sized or fitting shirts, loose blazers and heels!!! I've always wanted to wear (bow) ties, suspenders or hats and not look like I'm auditioning to be a clown!

  12. WL WARRIOR Thanks! I found the articles. Appreciate your effort...
  13. It came down to a few things. I have mild reflux, not diagnosed as GERD or anything, don't want nothing interfering with that. I've read articles that state that a higher percentage of my comorbities are resolved with the bypass, my surgeon is more experienced fixing complications with the bypass, and that 10-15% higher weight loss means something to me. I know that folks on mere with the sleeve do extremely well with weight loss, but I've decided they don't represent the whole 'average' population. I take pills everyday fish oil, vitamin D and a pill for a condition that won't be resolved with the surgery. I have no problem throwing a multi in there with iron and a sublingual b12 on the mix. My goals are to be off blood pressure meds and not become a full diabetic. I'm worried what to take for menstrual cramps though but t those are my reasons
  14. Yay! A bypass patient! Either we're a quiet lot or more folks are having sleeves. You have to be at a computer on your profile page. I ended having to change from sleeve to bypass myself...
  15. Thanks, I'm leaning heavily toward the bypass, in fact, I just had my surgeon's office submit to insurance for it. It would be difficult to change now but it wouldn't require an act of congress. I've often said, I just need a surgical stop sign to stop eating. The way bypass patients go on about the 'gold standard' does seem a bit dated like going out after a VCR when DVD players are newer, less hassle and work great! Lol I've just felt like I need dumping to slow me on sugar and fats....higher percentage of resolution of my specific co-morbidities, and that extra 10-15% chance of weight loss is meaningful to me. I've maintained a 60 percent of my weight before and if I'm going under the knife, I want a greater weight loss honestly. I know sleeve patients on here drop weight like flies, but I think the sleeve (and bypass for that matter) patients here (getting support, mostly compliant, helping and encouraging others) are not the average population when you look at the numbers of WLS happening each year. Everyone has to make the decision that they predict they can live with for the rest of their lives. I'm glad you are still good with your decision!
  16. Thanks! Phew! I appreciate and welcome respectful disagreement and the rephrase. That's why I stated up front that I was confused and doubtful rather than some of my first thoughts. When you factor in the original question, it made it seem like the statements were being said in a verses the bypass or other WLS sort of manner. If the ideas where from a 'why I chose weight loss surgery in general perspective', that makes a world of difference! Easy mistake. I'm not here to defend anyone's decision but my own (to myself). But as a (pre-op) I'm still doing research and was more than a little caught of guard by some of the things said. I'm reading mostly research to make my decision and straying from anecdotal evidence, stories or advice.....scientific/social research is comforting to me on some level.
  17. It was just another day. I'm pre-op and not near my family who goes balls to the wall with the food. I made all the food, didn't bother to alter for calories' sake and I gotta say I didn't even finish my plate. No seconds or thirds lol....We did a nice long family hike before the game and dessert. To get here, I've gotten to the place where I'm just tired of all the food and eating and I'm ready for my forever diet as they say! I was grateful to not feel like a busted can of biscuits this Thanksgiving! :-)
  18. So confused, are you saying that mother's who get VSG verses no surgery at all lose weight?? And that RNY post ops tend to have children who are obese and people with children who have VSG are less likely to have obese children? And that ppl who have other surgeries other than VSG "can eat whatever they want?" As much as I've seen has said the RNY had greater compliance with avoiding excessive fats, carbs and sugars because of dumping syndrome. Yes, malabsorption is an issue but slider foods are across the board for everyone. I would love to see this study to which you refer and I can't imagine it being peer reviewed....this goes against all logic to me. People with biological children who are obese are going to create the propensity of obese children at least the nature part due to genetics. I can't imagine its correlated to a surgery type.
  19. The duodenal switch and the bypass are technically more sophisticated procedures, longer anesthesia. It's about as long as the bypass so the surgeon should be paid the same....but any time to care specialize in what is being demanded, it will be your cash cow.

    I GOT A DATE!

@@tshine01 Its is funny that they assume primary care docs know anything nutrition! Or that they are sympathetic to the harmful cycle of years of dieting and gain back has done to us metabolically. I am so ready for this as a life style change....I have a sweet tooth I can't lie and everyone in my household is not ready to embrace this lifestyle change. One thing that helped me and I'm not a fan of artificial sweeteners but I went out and bought a bunch of sugar-free fudge popsicles and stopped buying sugary stuff. I look forward to them now as my little treat. I'm pre-op and Thanksgiving is tomorrow, I'm not trying to go crazy but I will enjoy a serving of dessert. There are plenty of ideas to start substituting for carbs on the internet and different bloggers like the world according to eggface, @jonathanblue has recipes on his blog. I make pizza with cauliflower and almond meal crust. I use spaghetti squash for the noodles in my baked spaghetti. I know some ppl used shaved zucchini for Pasta noodles, but to me zucchini holds so much Water that by the time you add a sauce its watery and disgusting to me....
  21. I'm nearing the end/beginning of my journey! I made it through the 6 month medically supervised diet, saw the NUT, had the psych eval, and attended a support group. My surgeon is submitting a letter of medical necessity and my date is tentatively set for 1/15/2015!! I'll start my pre-op diet on 1/1/2015. I was so scared at the beginning of this process, but now that I've done my research and read SO MANY posts on this site I am confident I am making the right decision for myself and my future!!!!! :)

    Pre op struggle!

More salt, More water? Could be electrolytes....I know that's what has been recommended to me with the headaches from ketosis. 3 days is typically when the body goes into ketosis in which it starts using fat verses carbohydrates for fuel. Certainly do your own research and/or call your doc if it persists.

    I GOT A DATE!

@@tshine01, Hey, my diet was supposed to be monitored by my primary physician who had very loose suggestions and not a real plan. So, for half that time I did Protein smoothies with a Protein Drink, with added frozen banana and berries for Breakfast and lunch and a regular dinner. And I ate whatever I wanted during the weekend but tried to steer clear of carbs and sugars. This stabilized my weight and allowed me to not gain which is was was going on prior. I think I lost 5 pounds the whole time which isn't remarkable but it met the requirement of weight loss, if you think about how much I was gaining prior, I consider it success. You could always ask or pay for separately to see a nutritionist for pointers toward weight loss. They are just hoops, a means to a end. Yes any healthy eating and healthier choices is good practice, but insurance companies seem heartless but it just so happens that investing in your success and compliance have a shared benefit of our ultimate success and their bottom line...its rare that they coincide.
