January RNY Surgery
MisforMimi replied to MBM1Forever's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey Everyone, I'm totally getting excited!!! I've never felt excited yet, just always nervous. Something has shifted. I'm a pretty active person so my s/o is like, "you need a reason to just sit around for a few weeks!" lol My date is this Thursday. I strayed a little from the pre-op diet this weekend, but nothing too crazy. One thing I know is that I'm not going to freak out about that. Lessons learned. Moving forward. I'm committing to not beating myself up over food anymore. Been there. Done that. Got the t-shirt! I'm excited to have this tool in place. I met with my surgeon on Friday and I feel good. Her complication rate is well below the national averages which are already low. Her patients typically do well and are compliant. I'm excited to join the ranks. She asked if anything has changed in my health status since we last met I said no. Then I asked HER if anything as changed with her practice or patients' status since we last met!!! LOLL... I got my stations all set up last night. I've got my food area in the kitchen stocked with water enhancements, jello, soups, puddings, milk powder in the pantry and fridge. Upstairs in the bathroom cabinet I've got my vitamins, meds and scale. Getting some gauze from work today. Then I got my bag for the hospital almost ready to go with my gas X strips, car pillow, roomy jammies, my belly binder and chapstick. I've been collecting for about a month now. This site has been helpful in getting me organized. I can't believe I'm doing this!!!!!!! How's everyone doing? -
Yes!! JALUVIC. We are meeting at the Lyons Den Cafe in Bothell on Sunday, January 25th at 3pm. Hope to see you there!

It totally sucks, but for anyone reading this who up and decides they want WLS the best thing is to skip the doctor and call your insurance first. They set the rules we all have to play by, unless you're going for self pay in Mexico. I was working with a case manager through my insurance for a year prior to even thinking about calling anyone for a consult.

MisforMimi replied to MisforMimi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the feedback everyone. Of course I want to hear the good, bad and the ugly. I've read the horror stories on this site and I think I know what I'm getting into. I've noticed the closer I get to the actually date the more I want to hear the good stories.....its natural, I think. -

@@MBM1Forever, Hey, I'm glad you are doing well....I am on the liquids. The only way I'm surviving is that I get to have a modest dinner and pudding and popsicles, sugar free of course. My date got moved back to the 15th from the 22nd if you can believe. I'm glad its earlier but I'm a planner, so as soon as they gave the holler, I'm making plans that all have to rescheduled. Oh well. I'm nervous and can't believe I'm doing it. Good thing I followed my first mind and started the pre-op diet on the 1st, so now I'll ready for the date change anyways...Phew! Sorry for the long answer. -
They playing with my emotions! Surgery dates thus far: "sometime in Dec." 1/15/15, 1/22/15 and now back to 1/15/15. They better not change it again. People have lives ya know!

Yes we do! I tried not to act up every time an obstacle came up when I was going through the approval process, but girl it was difficult at times! I had to constantly tell myself not to act the fool with sone of the people I had to deal with. Trust me, it was difficult alot of times to stay calm and focused. I hope with you that you will begin this awesome journey in the next few days. Keep hanging in there!

Did anyone eat below 400 or 300 calories for a year post op after gastric sleeve?
MisforMimi replied to Best's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Why get a surgery at all? Why eat 300-400 calories? Why not just Water fast? Humans can, well fat humans can live a long time without food at all..... VSGAnn2014, I just mentioned on a post that I love those posts where people are like, I'm dying. Members give an outpouring of support and then chirp chirp!! I'm a recovering rescuer, so I just have to laugh and keep it moving....Lol I still won't make a New Year's resolution but I'm with you! -
Too much protein by doing it

I like to cut it with some milk. I checked with the nutritionist and she said it was OK. And that I would not be losing

Gastric Bypass VS Sleeve
MisforMimi replied to jhammer2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I chose bypass for several reasons: I wanted to resolve hypertension (high BP) - the percentage of this co-morbidity is higher with the bypass. I wanted that extra weight loss (10-15% more on average) but the compliant sleevers do catch up eventually, tho. I do not have GERD, just mild reflux. I didn't want anything to induce or worsen it. I wanted the procedure that most bariatric doctors feel comfortable/more versed in handling if I were to have complications. I want the dumping "to keep me honest" - I cannot eat sugar without feeling like I want to eat an entire house now and if a surgery has to be in place to help me with a negative feedback loop with then so be it. WLS surgery in general: I want to be healthy and an example of health and fitness for my 4 year old daughter. I want to be thin and fit and be able to run races without pain in my joints or feeling like I'm gonna die if I have to sprint for a bus. -
I just love these cryptic posts, the outpouring of support and then chirp chirp. I hope she's all right.
