New Here! Getting ready to change!
nicnaknut replied to MissMom24's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Brandy, Nice to meet you. I am going to Dr Kirshenbaum for my banding on October 16th. There is a thread that is going with Dr K's patients and there are several people that live in the Denver area and get together once a month for lunch.. You are invited to come on over to the thread and meet a nice group of people. It is under the "Doctors and Hospitals" heading and it starts out "Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum". The thread is over 100 pages long and very friendly... Good luck to you and hope to see you at the thread.. -

nicnaknut replied to Boomer46's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Boomer, Welcome to the Lap Band-Wagon... I am very close to your age and I am self pay also and I am going to Dr. Kirshenbaum in Denver, Colorado on October 16th.. He charges $9950 for the whole works plus 3 months follow up care... Because you are out of town he will give you a number that you can call anytime with questions or problems.. Dr K and his staff are Number 1 in my book.. I highly recommend him.. It does not take very long at all to get your surgery scheduled. I chose the October date because that works best for me... You are most welcome to join us in the Dr. Kirshenbaum thread under "Doctors and Hospitals" and ask any of the others questions you may have.... I have a link to his web site below my name if you want to check it out.. Good Luck to you on where ever you decide to go.. -

I am self pay and being banded by Dr. Kirshenbaum in Colorado on October 16th.. He is a kind and gentle Dr... I very highly recommend him to anyone. He charges $9950 and that includes everything for the surgery and 3 months follow up. Fills after the 3 months are running $15. He has a support group that meets once a month and his nutritionist was voted the best in Colorado. Everyone in the office are the kindest most understanding people I have ever came across.... Or like losingjusme said there is also the option of going to Mexico to get it done... Good Luck -

Hello Everyone, I haven't been around for a couple of weeks and wow, lots of catching up to do.. I had my phone conference with Dr K the other day.. He is such a good man... He was so helpful in explaining in detail the diagrams that was emailed to me.. He took his time and answered all of my questions.. I felt so at ease after talking to him... Even though my surgery isn't until October, I know that everything will be ok but I'm still getting nervous. I keep reading what Lap Dancer wrote from her OA and it is so true. Thank you very much for posting it for us. How was the lunch at the Red Robin? Hope that it went well for all of you.... -

Have you checked into a self pay? There are quite a few insurance companies that will not pay for lap band surgery and people end up getting it with self pay. Good Luck to you.. -
How is weight loss for people over 50?
nicnaknut replied to debi717's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
IndioGirl, Wow what willpower to throw out some yummy white gravy for your mashed potatoes.. My mouth was beginning to water as you were describing it. But you are so right about 75% eating right and exercise, as the band is just a tool to help you with your journey to weight loss. Carol, I hear ya with the head hunger thing.. I am trying so hard now not to eat anything after dinner, but lately I have been craving sweets in the evenings too. My sweet tooth has been for pastries, like donuts or cinnamon rolls but a good banana nut cake or zucchini bread will work for me.. :bounce: Ok, no more talk about the bad foods, just healthy food talk... Oh, just one more thing for IndioGirl, yes the flat kind in chicken broth... -

Lap Dancer, Congratulations on your weight loss, that is great!! Good luck to you on your therapy.. Gurlygirl, Thanks for asking the question about nausea. I will be sure to use the patch and or suppository if I have the problem. Dynamo, I am looking forward to meeting everyone at one of the monthly get togethers at the Red Robin. I think it is great that you help organize these get togethers. I am hoping that I can make it to the October or November one. -

Crabcakes, Denise, Phyl, and BJean.... Thank you so much for sharing with me your experiences with different foods... I was getting real worried about that since I keep reading about people who can't eat this or that. I don't mind giving up certain foods for the lap band but, I was beginning to think I was going to be doomed to a life of protien drinks and fish. While I do like fish, I really like other foods as well, plus I keep thinking about my poor husband who doesn't have a weight problem and what to fix him to eat.. :hungry: Carole, Congratulations on your fantastic weight loss. That is a great accomplishment. Hopefully I will do as well. I know alot of the process is mental and I'm trying to get the positive thoughts going. One thing I have found to be helpful is this web site and all of the support and encouragement you get from everyone here. -

Thank you so much crabcake for the encouraging words.. I have been concerned about that, as I keep reading different threads of people who can't eat this or that and I wasn't really looking forward to a protien powder and fish diet from now on.. So thanks again for giving me some encouragement.. People such as yourself is what makes this site so wonderful.. -
deelooka, Thanks do much for your pioneering spirit that has allowed all of us to have the opportunity to have the lap band surgery. Congratulations on 10 years of banding and may you have continued good health for many years to come..

How is weight loss for people over 50?
nicnaknut replied to debi717's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hello everyone, I just found this thread and have enjoyed reading about us over 50 folks.. I am scheduled for my band surgery in October and I'm getting excited for it, but at the same time I'm a little aprehensive about no longer being able to eat some of my favorite foods, such as my homemade meatloaf, beans and cornbread, chicken and dumpllings, etc... How have all of you been able to give up some of your favorite foods and is it as difficult as I'm thinking it is going to be? I would love to hear how you cope with it. Thanks to all of you kind folks out there in bandland.. -

Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum
nicnaknut replied to Shesha's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Hello everyone, I haven't been around much for the last week and boy have I missed alot. It's good to hear that everyone is doing good. I will be having my phone consultation with Dr. K next Tuesday the 7th even though my surgery isn't scheduled until October. Oh by the way, I would like to meet up with y'all in October at the Red Robin.. My surgery is scheduled for the 16th of October with pre op on the 15th. I probably won't get to Denver until the 14th but I will be staying through Thanksgiving. I would love to meet with you when you all decide on a date. jfk thanks for sharing your experience with us all. It sounds like everthing turned out ok even though it started out a bit rocky. I just love to hear all the nice things every one says about Dr. K. It makes me feel more at ease. Woofay, I sure hope the pounds have started to come off for you. That sure has to be frustrating. I probably should get the South Beach diet book too.. However, I have already done the Dr. Atkins diet which is very similar to this one. I lost quite a bit of weight on the Atkins diet, but just like all others, the minute you quit them, back comes the weight and then some.. 1hawgfan, Congratulations on your band. Sure hope everything is still going well for you. Mare, So sorry hubby is not on the same page as you and giving you the support that you need. I know that you will find it here, as everyone is the greatest!! Hope you all have a great weekend. -
I'm a newbie with LOTS of questions!
nicnaknut replied to want2bmeagain's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I would suggest that you go to the Dr. Kirshenbaum link under 'Doctors and Hospitals' and see what all of Dr K's patients have to say about him. One gal just posted there that she was just banded by Dr K. and she had a great experience... It would be alot closer for you to go to Denver than it would be to Mexico since you live in Colorado Springs in the event something went wrong.. But, good luck to you in what ever you decide. -

Welcome to LBT PCracker and tigger.. It is always nice to have new members to the community.. I just joined a few weeks ago and have received some great support and answers to all my questions. I'm sure you will receive tha same warmth from everyone just as I have. I will be banded on October 16th by Dr. Kirshenbaum in Denver, Colorado and I'm really looking forward to it, but I also wonder about doing the two week liquid diet. Hopefully someone who has gone through it will answer your question. Good luck -

nicnaknut replied to want2bmeagain's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hello and Welcome, I am another one who is waiting to be banded and can't help much with your questions.. But you mention something about Colorado Dr's and I am going to Dr. Kirshenbaum in the Denver area to have my band done. I am self pay and was looking at going to Mexico too. He comes highly recommended and his charges are $9950 for every thing and 3 months aftercare and fills. He charges a little bit more than the Mexico Dr's, but I like the fact that he is in the US and only charges $15 for fills you may need later.. I've heard other Dr's charge about $100 to $150 per fill and some also charge an up front fee as well.. There is a thread started with Dr. K's patients under 'Doctors and Hospitals' from the main page and a link to his web site in my signature... Good luck in what ever you decide.. -

Frustrated...Searching 4 Doctor in Mexico
nicnaknut replied to bakerman's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I have my surgery scheduled with Dr Kirshenbaum in Denver, Colorado. He and his staff are very nice to work with and he only charges $9950 for everything including 3 months post op. I am also self pay and was considering going to Mexico but changed my mind when I found Dr K. I also like the idea that he is in the United States. Good luck on your decision. -
Hi Telecia, I'm not as big as you are, but I really admire your trying to stay with weight loss for as long as you have. Hopefully you won't have to run through too much red tape with Medicade and can get your band quickly. Good luck to you and God Bless
