Hi Mischievous... I have read that in general bread and rice are not really compatible with the band.. They are too dry and since you cannot drink with your meal they get stuck.. Most banders I know of avoid eating those items and pretty much cut them out of their diet... But that is just what I have read. I don't know for myself... Good Luck to you

Anyone in the Denver CO area?
nicnaknut replied to DugzWife's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Nichole.. There is a great Dr in the Denver area. His name is Dr Kirshenbaum.. My surgery is scheduled for October 16th. There is a thread started full of Dr. Kirshenbaum's patients and there are 3 or 4 gals that live in the Denver area that have had their bands done by Dr K.. He charges $9950 and that includes everything plus 3 months follow up care and fills.. After that fills are $15.. Dr K and his staff are 1st class in my book... There is a link to his web site at the bottom of my signature for you to check it out... Come on over to Dr K's thread and join all of us there... You can find it by going to the home page and under "Doctors and Hospitals" open that up and look for the thread that says "Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum" there are over 100 pages you can look through or start on the last page and join in the chat... Good Luck to you.. -
Wow Mark, It sounds like you are back on track.. Losing 63 lbs is darn good.. I hope that things start going better for you and the PBing and Slime goes away.. I have read on other threads around here that if you go on a liquid diet for 24 hours after a PB and Slime episode it helps calm things back down and helps you eat again.. This is just what I read.. The band is only a tool to help you in your weight loss, the results are up to you... Maybe you can find a support buddy to help you win the war over the willpower issue so you can do your long distance motorcycle riding and make your Dr happy.. There are several threads for the guys that I've noticed while searching around here.. Good Luck to you and keep on keeping on...

Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum
nicnaknut replied to Shesha's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
NM Sunshine...:welcome: to the Dr K thread..... It generally starts cooling off in Colorado towards the end of October and then in November it can do most anything.. It can be like late Fall, cool but comfortable or it can snow and freeze.. December can be similar, but it generally starts snowing and freezing by then... This is just my recollection... Dynamo, Mal and Woofay would know for sure... -

Woofay...Thanks so much for sharing the great pictures.. It just makes me homesick for my beautiful Colorado.. I can hardly wait to get back home in October.. I sure hope that the pain in my lower back and knees will lessen as I lose weight... It makes it so hard to do anything when the pain is always there... Marcy.... Wow, Such great willpower to keep from eating more... Even though the scale doesn't show as much all the other indicators seem to show that the pounds are coming off... Michelle... Hang in there, it will be better tomorrrow.. Just remember your food friend is the reason you gained the weight and I would get rid of that friend and stay with your new friend in your artwork... It would be great if you could post a picture of one of your pieces.. Maybe Woofay will post a picture of the one she bought. Hope everyone has a great week.. -

IndioGirl... Love your new Avatar!!.. You are a very nice looking lady.. Just look at those rosey cheeks and beautiful smile.. I can hardly wait until I get my band. October seems like eons away, but in reality it will be here before I know it. Hubby and I will be on the road traveling while I am on my pre-op liquid diet, so that should be interesting.... We live full time and travel in our motorhome and will be traveling from California where we are spending the summer to our home base in Colorado for the surgery. We will be stopping and visiting kids, grandkids and other family along the way. We will be staying with my daughter and granddaughter during my recouperation. We will be there through Thanksgiving and I'm hoping that I will be able to have a taste or two of the turkey and dressing by then... :hungry: I am planning on waiting until after Thanksgiving before I get my first fill, so hopefully that will allow me to have a small, but nice meal... -

Mary... Welcome to our groupie... What day in October is your surgery scheduled? What an inspirational story about your friend... She lost more than she currently weighs right now.. That is great!! My gosh look at at how active she is now compared to how she was.... It is almost like a miracle transformation... Here was this fabulous butterfly needing to break out of her cocoon. Our groupie is growing and thanks to Holly for starting the thread.. I'm getting excited to have great friends to share this journey with.... My vote is still with TENacious TENS... -

Indiogirl... Thank you so much for the great suggestions on the evening snack.. I made myself a little note about that. Skipping the morning and afternoon snack and saving it for night time is a great idea.. It sounds like enough to stop the craving and being full at the same time... I just love all of these hints that you and all of the others are sharing with me.. The sandwich plates and small utensils are just the perfect thing for meals.. Thank you again for the wonderful suggestions... Margi... That's great!! It sounds like you may have finally found your sweet spot... I bet it is nice to be able to eat again.. -

Giving up smoking..........
nicnaknut replied to toots2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Toots.. I quit smoking 2 years ago by using Zyban.. I was a smoker for 45 years and smoked anywhere from a pack to 2 packs a day.. After I had quit smoking for 8 months I found out that I have emphysema.. So, for your sake, please quit smoking...... You can do it and we are all here to support you when you need it... -

thanks nic~how did you put "On the Band Wagon" under your name/above your avatar??? ______________________________________________________________ Up at the top of the page in the dark blue ribbon are links in white text that say: Home, UserCP, Gallery, Journals, etc..... Select the "User CP".. Then on the right of your thread subscriptions is a column that has several links for editing your profile, etc.. Click on "Custom User Title" That will take you to the box that you can add what ever saying you want to under your screenname.. Right now it should say "Registered User". Just change that to whatever you want... Hope this helps.. -

Hello to all of my fellow October bandsters. I am getting my band on October 16th by Dr Kirshenbaum in Denver, Colorado... I can hardly wait... Good grief, I thought I was the only one that was on the last supper eating frenzy..:hungry: I keep justifying it with the fact that I have to cook nourshing meals for my DH and I just can't let good food go to waste so I pile it up on my plate too.. Anyway, how about giving our October group a name.. I have been thinking of something like the "Blooming 10's" -- "Tens in Bloom" --"Tasteful Tens" (because October is the tenth month) or "Spooktaculars" (because of Halloween in October) :rip::spy: Those are just a few that I thought of. Would like to hear of other ideas and then we can have a poll and decide on one for us... Looking forward to getting a groupie name.. :clap2: -
How is weight loss for people over 50?
nicnaknut replied to debi717's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Everyone, I haven't been around for a couple of weeks and just got caught up on reading the posts... Thank you all so much for being so honest about posting your cravings. I will be banded in October and I think I will go get me a set of baby utensils so I will be reminded to take those small bites. I am ok with 3 meals a day, but I eat waaaay too much at those meals.. I have a real problem with moderation and the plate must be clean before I remove it from the table.... I am so looking forward to my banding and helping me to eat in moderation and healthy.. I am much more comfortable in knowing that I can still eat some of my favorite foods, just less of it at a sitting... And thanks for the info on the night eating, cause that is when I have cravings for sweets. I keep having these talks with myself but, if I can have a fudgescicle I will be a happy camper and not feel as though I am depraving myself.. -
