    We are the TENaciousTENS!

Hi Kim, I'm unfortunately self pay and it is costing me $9950 for the whole enchilada... lol.. I just hope I don't have any complications, so $3000 isn't too bad but it still isn't pocket change... (yep, ya just gotta love them credit cards, could we live without them?) The way I look at it the cost of the surgery will be a savings to me in my health care... I have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, feet and ankle swelling, etc.. and going to the Dr all the time and buying medications all add up... I've heard that the Kaiser health plan out here is pretty good.. We have Kaiser back in Colorado, but it wasn't offered in the part of Colorado I lived in... No Dr. McSteamy for me, darn it!!! I could use a good heart palpatator... lol My DH and I are retired and live full time and travel in our motorhome with our two little dogs. We came out to Petaluma this summer and my DH is working for the Petaluma KOA campground this summer as their maintenance guy... We really enjoy it here and are thinking about coming back next summer... We are still trying to figure out where we will go this winter after I get banded and we spend Thanksgiving In Colorado with kids and grandkids... By then we will be ready to get out of the cold and on to a warmer climate... Maybe one of these days we could meet in person in SF....

Lets get this PARTY started! Oct 07!

P.S.... To all of us October bandsters, come on over to the new thread Holly has started for us... It is called "We are the TENacious TENS".. That is the name of our group. It was selected because we are being banded in month Ten and we are tenacious...

Lets get this PARTY started! Oct 07!

Hi and WELCOME to all of the new TENacious TENS!!! Cheri, Rabid, Summer, Sadie and Kim.... It's great having you all here... I will be banded on October 16th by Dr Kirshenbaum in Colorado and right now it looks like I am the last one to get my band.. Maybe that is a good thing since I can learn what not to do from all of you beforehand.. :huggie: Sadie... I went to GNC and bought a whey Protein powder drink mix. I bought banana Creme flavor and mix it in skim milk and it is very good.. It also has 20 grams of protein per scoop. The directions call to mix in Water and it tastes ok that way, but I like it with milk better. They have several different flavors and the unflavored is good to put in other foods so you get your quota of protein for the day... The cost was rather reasonable considering you get several servings out of one package.. Cheri.... Wow, WTG on your weight loss already!!!... You are an inspiration to me who is such a whiny baby about going on the liquid diet just 10 days before surgery let alone 3 months before surgery... Summer.... You get to go first, so we will all be thinking of you.. Be sure and keep us posted on how you are doing... Kim... You will be next and we will keep you in our thoughts too... Congratulations on your weight loss already that is great!!! I'm sure you will be able to maintain the weight loss until surgery time.... October seems like a long way away, but it will actually be here before we know it.. I am sooo looking forward to getting my band and getting some energy back so I can go do things with my grandkids. I feel so bad when I can't partcipate in their activities because of this weight.. Plus I want to go dancing again... :biggrin1: Well that's enough whinning for now.. Hope you all have a great weekend......

    We are the TENaciousTENS!

Hi Kim, Welcome to the TENacious TENS.. We are happy to have new people here with us to provide lots of support for each other... Are you in San Francisco? I am currently just north of SF in Petaluma and will be leaving here October 1st for Denver, Colorado to have Dr Kirshenbaum do my surgery.. I am originally from Colorado but have been spending the summer out here. If I may ask who is your Dr? Welcome aboard and have a great weekend...
  5. NM Sunshine.. I sure understand about wanting to get it done sooner rather than later... I felt the same way in wanting to get it done before I changed my mind and had originally had a date of August 30th, but I would have had to fly in without my hubby and I really didn't want to do that. I rescheduled to a time that we could both go to Colorado in our motorhome.. I haven't changed my mind at all about it, I'm just getting anxious to get it done.. It feels like October will never get here.... I keep reading about all of the success stories here and it just makes me want the band all the more... Before I decided to go to Dr K I was thinking about going to your Dr there in TJ or the one in Monterrey. He is a good Dr and has plenty of experience.... It won't be much longer until you will be a member of the band... Good Luck to you....

How is weight loss for people over 50?

As far as curves goes, I guess I will have to go there and see what it is all about.. I have been thinking about going to it for a long time now, so it's time I got off of my arse and went...
  7. Hey Nichole, Have you had your appt yet with your GP? Keep us posted and Good Luck on your new journey...
  8. Lafs.... You will really enjoy coming out to Colorado. Blackhawk is not quite as big as Vegas, but is still lots of fun.. Whenever I get over to the Denver area I try to get up there... The trip through the mountains is really beautiful and I am guessing that the elevation is about 8000 ft.. I was considering Mexico too until I found Dr K and I checked him out pretty well myself. I have had my phone consultation with him and he is the nicest man.. I know that I will be in good hands...
  9. Wow, you are coming quite a ways.. But in mho you are coming to the best Dr.... You will have a fun time in Blackhawk and from the sounds of it you have been there before... Lets keep in touch. Maybe we can be support to each other...

    Just joined LBT

Hi Beehive and Welcome to LBT... This is a great place to meet people that feel the same as you and are always ready to help with support... I also had those same worries about eating all the foods I have become acustomed to.. After reading tons of posts and hearing from some of the other ones, I think that if you do just what your Dr tells you to do post-op and let your surgery heal properly, it is my understanding that you will be able to eat what you want just less of it... With the exception of a few foods, like breads which are dry and stick easily... Keep us posted on what the seminar says and when your surgery date is scheduled...
  11. Hey Lafs... I am being banded by Dr K on October 16th.. I'm excited too.. I can hardly wait until October.. Do you live in the Denver area or are you traveling to Colorado??
  12. Lap Dancer... So sorry to hear that you are having problems.. Please keep us all updated on what it may be and how you are doing. Safe traveling to you... Dynamo... How is the rash doing?? I agree that it does sound like an allergy to something. Hope it clears up soon... Want2bemeagain.... Congrats on your surgery date... Everything will be good and work out for you.. I have had my phone consultation with Dr K and he is the greatest.. He explains in detail all of the diagrams Marilyn emails and he took the time and answered all of my questions thoroughly.. I felt very at ease and comfortable with him..

Phyll... NP, I think we all have those 'Senior Moments'. After all we are at that age where we can have them quite often.. :faint:

Lets get this PARTY started! Oct 07!

Hi and :welcomeB: Bugalu, Sierra and Lafs... Hey Lafs..... I'm going to Dr K also. My surgery date is October 16th.:clap2: Sierra.... Age is just a number... You are not wasting the money and the surgeon that made that remark should be banned... That is a totally uncalled for comment... I just heard on this mornings news that the weight loss surgery is adding 5 years to your life span. Losing the weight helps with heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, etc... I just read a post from a lady that is 65 and having the surgery because she wants to go to Disney World and do things with her grandchildren.. So, good luck to you and I think it is great that you care enough about you and your loved ones to get in better health... Hey Bugalu... Keep up the good work... It's only a matter of time before the pounds start dropping off....:bounce: For all of us that will be banded in October, a new thread has been started under our groups name the "TENacious TENS". We came up with that name because we are being banded in the tenth month and we are pretty tenacious.... come on over to the other thread and keep up the great postings and support.... :thumb:

How is weight loss for people over 50?

Phyll.. I think you have me mixed up with someone else, because I am the one that lives full time in my motorhome and I am currently in the San Francisco area... My DH and I will be leaving here on the first of October for Colorado and I will have my surgery by Dr Kirshenbaum... MistyMoon... Wow, you sure have been through alot.. Hopefully the lap band will be the last for you. Good luck to you and enjoy those grand babies.... (I've only got 9 and 1 great-grand) Linda.... Now that you are trying harder, I bet the pounds will start coming off faster and your energy level will increase... Thanks from everyone regarding Curves... I've often wondered if it would be a good program to try, but I don't know if I want to commit to a year contract....
  16. NM Sunshine.. Wow, that is a quick surgery date... I see that you decided to go to TJ instead.. Is it closer to you than Colorado? I'm getting so excited about my band.. I went to San Francisco yesterday and I had a hard time walking around. My poor knees and hips hurt so bad.. So today, I'm started walking to see if I can build up my stamina and get my exercise routine started... It's just a good thing that my DH is so understanding when it comes to my walking when we are out..
  17. Thanks Tracy.... After all of the wonderful things that has been said about Dr. K, I feel like I'm pretty lucky too...

    We are the TENaciousTENS!

That's a good idea about watching the Introductions.. I will keep an eye out over there and see if I can add to our group... Keep me posted on how things went today at the dietition.. I won't have mine until the end of September... I went to GNC and bought some banana creme flavored whey Protein powder. It says on the package to mix with Water but I used milk instead and it is really good.. I also bought some Crystal Light To Go to mix with my water and it is good too... (the peach is down right tasty) So I am trying to get a few things here and there to try out to see which ones I like best for the pre-op and post-op liquid diets... I bought one of those bullets and put a banana in the Protein Powder this morning and it was quite tasty..
  19. want2bemeagain... I think I read on another thread that you were from the Grand Junction area and I just wanted to say Howdy Neighbor, cause I'm from Junction too... When is your surgery scheduled?
  20. Hey Deb... I will be in Denver on the 14th of October and will stay through Thanksgiving, so anytime during the month we are there works for me... As time gets closer maybe we can firm up a date..

    We are the TENaciousTENS!

Hi Holly, I'm a proud member of the Tenacious Tens.. Just look in my signature.. Thank you for the encouraging words and I'm ready to go forward.... Welcome Sierra to the Tenacious Tens.. :clap2: I have the same goal weight as you, but I weigh a little bit more... We can all do it as long as we keep in mind that the band is just a tool... It is up to us to stick with the plan and keep our eye on the prize.. (an old saying) Wonder where everybody is... Things for the October bandsters have been quiet for awhile... Maybe they haven't found us yet....
  22. Hey NM Sunshine... It would be neat if you could get your surgery scheduled close to mine on October 16th... That way we could be support buddies and could meet each other in person while we are both in the Denver area... Just a suggestion, but I understand how it is once you make up your mind to get it done, you want to get it as soon as you can... It's surprising how quickly things move along once you make that initial call.... Let's us know how things go...
  23. Lap Dancer.... Generally the last two weeks of September in Colorado, the Aspen Trees and Scrub Oak are at their peak of color.. After that it is too cold in the high country and the leaves have pretty much fallen off of the trees...
  24. Rob.... Good Luck to you and let us know how your surgery goes tomorrow.... We will all be thinking of you.... Take Care and God Bless...
