I do the exercise bicycle for 40 minutes on level 7 and do roughly 8.50 miles. I do plan on getting a trainer to show me some more exercises that won't hurt myself with because I have fibromylgia, arthritis, RSD and stenosis of the spine. I have to be very careful of what I do and need guidance. I need to tone up my body as best I can. So far only have done the bicycle and every couple of weeks I up the level to get more resistance. Have a good workout and feel good.

Hi and welcome. As you can see from my profile I had bypass surgery almost 10 months ago and of the best gifts I ever gave myself. I have so much more energy. I am off of diabetic meds, high blood pressure meds, high cholesterol meds, migraine meds and a few others. It's great to be rid of those. I am so much more healthier then I've ever been. I have had a few bouts of pain from foods that didn't agree with me or I had it once when I ate to much of an omelette. Never going to do that again it was horrible. Drinking Water in the beginning on a schedule was hard and now it's easy no problem. For me not drinking with meals was a big change but I got used to it quickly. Giving up soda and sparkling water was kinda hard but I did it way before my surgery and now it's fine being without it. You in the beginning need to experiment with what foods you can eat and tolerate. Now I do better with certain foods then I did in the beginning. This is a life changing operation but boy does it feel good when I can buy stuff on line and it fits without trying it on in a store or going to a regular store and not have to go into the specialty shops anymore. You have made the right decision to do this because you will be so much more healthy and that's the most important part. Being smaller is the second best part. Good luck to you and best wishes.

what does it feel like when food gets stuck?
Chelly replied to rescuesu63's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Horrible pain in the stomach, chest and throat. The feeling that you get if you eat to much, eat to fast or when you eat something that you shouldn't have. I don't get it often because I'm careful of what I put in my mouth and I don't eat bad foods either. The worst time and it lasted for hours was when I ate to much of an omelette. I will never ever do that again to myself. I was so uncomfortable and miserable. Ruined my whole day and into the night. Please try never to do that to yourself ever. -
Welcome! When you have the right mind set you can accomplish many things and you sound like you're there. This surgery is a big step and you've made it by deciding to do it for yourself. That takes a lot of courage to do this surgery and don't let anyone including yourself stop you from getting what you want, which is better health. Best wishes for your upcoming surgery.

What are your opinions on eating avocados?
Chelly replied to bakawaka's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Yes that is to much. I eat gucamole and that only two ounces at a time and not often. This is okay with my nutritionist. So if I were you I would ask the nutritionist about how much they think is reasonable. -
Traveling to Thailand for 3weeks, will be 2 months postop
Chelly replied to Lthomas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Talk to your nutritionist on how to plan for this trip. They will be most helpful in figuring out what you should bring with you and what you can eat of local foods. There are different types of vegetarians and you don't specify what type you are because that could make a difference of what you can eat. Nuts have protein and easy to carry but you have to ask your nutritionist if you'll able to eat them. Now I'm not a vegetarian but I do buy Kay's Natural protein snacks and cereals. They have 12g of protein in them and some in individual packages. Ask again if your nutritionist says it's okay to use. Quest Protein Bars are great and they are made with Stevia. They have 20 or 21 grams of protein in them. These are okay with my nutritionist but again check with yours. These are just a few ideas but I suggest you find out what the foods are there and go from there to help you plan out a strategy. Have enjoyable trip. -
Welcome Sarah, You're in a great place for support here. Congrats on deciding to reclaim your health. Bypass surgery is a great gift to give yourself. Keep us updated on how you are doing and also come often to talk. Take care and best wishes for your upcoming surgery.

Protein is priority one to get in then water. I'm almost 10 months out and I would be upset if my husband brought pizza but he respects what I'm doing that he doesn't do that. If he wants something he goes and has it on his own or when we are at a restaurant. Which is easier on me. I suggest you have a talk with him about how it effects you. Good luck with what you are doing for yourself and don't let anyone stop you or detour you from getting it.

My surgeon required my A1C be 7.0 for surgery. I got it down to 6.9 in time for surgery. As of March of this year my A1C was 4.7. So Bypass really works well for eliminating diabetes. Good luck with your decision and surgery.

Kay's Natural cereal has 12g of protein and when you add a half of a cup of milk it comes up to 16g of protein in that meal. They are tasty and so are their snacks. The snacks have 12g of protein in them per serving. Vitacost.com has the best price on Kay's Naturals products.

Still opting for 2% milk post-op
Chelly replied to latido's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try only 1% milk if you can get it since you don't want to try skim. I'd talk to your nutritionist if about this being okay. Take care. -
New to forum 7 days post gastric
Chelly replied to allforkarya's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh dear you must consume your water. Try chicken broth, sugar free jello, crystal light, sugar free Popsicles. Did you get IV fluids for your dehydration? If you didn't go to the ER immediately to be taken care of. Does your surgeon know that you aren't drinking? If not tell them immediately. Let us know what happens to you. Take care. -
Follow Up Q's After WLS Introductory Seminar
Chelly replied to RAR70's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
No coffee because it acts like a diuretic. No drinking a half hour before a meal and no drinking a half hour after a meal. This way you keep the food in your stomach longer and it won't get flushed out. No alcohol because you don't feel it like before and it enters your blood stream faster. You might not feel drunk but your blood level will say differently. No carbonation because it stretches the stomach. You must follow the food plan that your surgeon and nutritionist give you or you won't be successful. Protein is first always to eat and always have all your water. You must measure everything. No sugars or fats because you will get sick and have dumping. Well my nutritionist says it should have no more then 10g of sugar per serving or you get sick from it. We all go to social functions you just have to plan ahead on what you will eat. I personally go out to eat and go to people's homes, I even went to a convention and brought food with me just in case there wasn't anything for me to eat. It worked out great. I ate their food and mine. Those are the basic general rules to follow. Your surgeon and nutritionist will come up with what is best for you for your plan. I was a very big soda and seltzer drinker and gave that. I also was a big drinker with meals and got use to not doing that. WLS is a big commitment and there are adjustments but it can be done and you can have a very full life also a much healthier life. Good luck with your decision. I'm so glad I did it. -
Oh dear that is a dilemma. You really need to take to your surgeon about this like you are going to. That's the best thing. I still take Tylenol for my aches and pains of Fibromyalgia, Osteo Arthritis, RSD and Stenosis of the Spine. It works so, so but it helps a little. It's the only pain reliever that I know we can take either then narcotics. I hope you get help from the surgeon about this. Good luck.

Pre op tests confimed I have a blood clotting disorder...
Chelly replied to Heather_8.1.14's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My sister just had the sleeve a month ago and she had to be and still is on 50,000 units of vitamin D. She also was on blood thinners before and after surgery. She had to be careful of course but her Hematologist cleared her for surgery and still is watching her closely. She also has a Vascular doctor watching her that cleared her for surgery too. So try not to upset yourself about this until you see the Hematologist. Take care and good luck. -
Oh my Leena you have gone thru a lot. I wish you the best for a less eventful recovery from now on. Take care.

Questions re: food scale and cookbooks
Chelly replied to jomamacita7's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes you must measure your food either on a scale or in measuring cups or measuring spoons. I bought my digital scale from Zulily and it was under $15 and it's great. For easy recipes go to the site The World According To Eggface. Look it up on Google. She has recipes for all stages of the plan. Good luck with pre op and post op. Take care and wish you well with your surgery. -
Excellent! Great choices for yourself. You're doing wonderful.

My last A1C was 4.7 in March and at one time in the past it was 9.8. When I had my surgery I was on Victoza shots and those for me stopped the day of surgery and didn't have to use it any more. At the time of surgery my A1C was 6.9. So if I'm any example you most likely will go off your insulin or at least take very little. Good luck with you, here's to feeling great and also healthy.

Tomorrow is the big day!
Chelly replied to Auntie rose's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Catheter truthfully is no big deal to have. They most likely will only leave it in until the day after surgery so you don't have to worry about getting up unless you feel good enough to the first day and not groggy. Them putting you out is one minute your alert and next asleep. It goes very quickly and you be awake again in recovery then to your room. I know this because I've been under a few times for different surgeries. Try get some rest tonight and try not to think to much about it. Good luck tomorrow and when you feel up to it let us know how things went for you. Take care. -
If I were you I would definitely contact the surgeon about this immediately. Take care and let us know what happens with you.
-
Yes they do. So relax your mind about it. Take care of yourself and prepare for surgery. Good luck.

More power to you for your accomplishments in beating your weight and drinking. I'm sure that it must have really taken work to over come them. Congratulations and take care of yourself always.

How did you decide your goal weight?
Chelly replied to pik's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I have gone beyond my first goal and my surgeon would like me to have a normal BMI. To have that I need to lose just a few more pounds and hopefully I can do that by my one year anniversary of surgery. I think I can do that. I really haven't picked an exact number yet. Good luck with getting to your goal.
