What happens if we have a leak?
Chelly replied to Sassypants92201's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
They usually know if you have a leak right away because they test for that in the hospital after surgery. If you have a leak it will be repaired by your surgeon. Leak surgery is not plastic surgery. -
Denied insurance. We are crushed!
Chelly replied to jjinWA's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Why don't you appeal the decision of the insurance company? It can't hurt to try. A lot safer here then in Mexico because you would have follow up after surgery. This is just my opinion. Good luck. -
You said his job is slightly physical. I sure he knows he can't lift anything at all above five lbs. He also can't drive if he is still on pain meds. I hope he feels better if not stay home longer from work until he does.

Huge Emergency Issue. Proti-Diet liquid protein is NOT vegetarian/kosher and my surgery is Monday!
Chelly replied to JerseyCityGal's topic in Food and Nutrition
May I suggest Jay Robb Whey protein powder. I did use it with water at the beginning and switched to milk afterwards. You can get it at Whole Foods, directly from the company or from Amazon. In my opinion it's very good. It comes in chocolate, vanilla, strawberry and something else. Has no junk in it at all. It's sweetened with stevia. Good luck with your surgery. -
Looks like i am switching teams.
Chelly replied to Crosby's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have fibromyalgia, arthritis, stenosis of the spine, RSD and a few other things. Gastric bypass has helped in that I'm more mobile then I was a year ago. You can not take arthritis medicines with bypass because it will cause problems like ulcers. You can not take Advil or anything like it because of the same reason. If you go to a pain doctor they can give you alternatives for the pain that are not narcotics and won't hurt your stomach. They are topical pain relievers. Good luck with your future surgery. -
I go to the gym 4 x a week and do the stationary bicycle. To challenge myself I keep upping the level that I work at. Today I did level 4 for 40 minutes and did 8.50 miles. I will do that level for a couple of weeks and then go up a level. I also was thinking of getting a personal trainer to show me what else I could do with my physical ailments. So I'm all for going to a gym to work out.

1500 calories is IMO a lot. I personally would call my nutritionist before the next appointment and tell her that it feels like to much food and your worried that you won't loose the 8 lbs like she wants you to. See what her reply is and go from there. Good luck.

Do you feel better now that you have lost weight?
Chelly replied to Sparklingbeauty53's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Well lets see. I have a lot of physical ailments that are better in that I can move more and for a longer time. My pain varies from different times of day but I deal with it since I can't take pain meds any more. I have fibromyalgia, stenosis of the spine, arthritis, RSD and I exercise at the gym four times a week on the stationary bicycle doing nine miles in 40 minutes. I do some walking every day. So I can answer that I feel better because there is less of me in that I have more mobility. I don't have to walk with my cane any more or use the motorized carts in the stores any more to get around. I also look better and I like the fact I can go into most stores and buy clothes. -
Divorce rates and WLS. (link to article inside)
Chelly replied to bflblog's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I've been married going on 26 yrs and was always heavy but my husband is a wonderful man who no matter what says he loves me. He's always has been there for me and still is. He's very proud of me and my achievements of losing the weight and is very helpful in me taking care of myself. So WLS has not been an issue with us at all because we were strong to begin with. -
Are you taking Biotin? It helps with hair coming out as much and will help with regrowth. I was told that as long as you are losing your hair will come out. Make sure you get in all your protein because if you don't your hair will fall out more I was told. If you take Biotin take it in chewable form from TwinLabs. You can get it from them or others that sell it on the internet. Good luck and feel good.

sick of movies representing fat women as stupid!
Chelly replied to iamsoworthit's topic in Rants & Raves
Well if people would stop going to their movies then they would stop making them. Hit them in their pocketbook because that speaks louder then words. I also agree it's insulting. -

Thank you for sharing this report. -
I just got weighed at one of my doctors offices and I'm below my first goal weight. YAY!
-
Actually I've lost 179 lbs since 2006. So lost weight before I decided to have surgery last year. Surgery was the best gift I could give myself.

What a stinker to not be there for you. Your not suppose to do the things he's expecting you to do. My husband took care of me and the household chores so I could comfortably recover. He never said boo about it either. That's what real men do. They help out. Tell him to do it or you will go somewhere where people that respect you will help you on your way to recovery. He is totally disrespectful of your needs and tell him that. Also tell him to grow up and take care of things because you've been instructed not to do these things around the house for a month. Tell him you can cause damage to yourself if you don't follow these instructions of not doing heavy housework and lifting things. See what happens then. Good luck with your recovery and tell your husband to shape up.

Elizabeth maybe you need help from a therapist who specializes in people that have had Bariatric surgery. They can help you with understanding your relationship with food. It's just a thought for you to think about. Good luck.

Bypass on june 4th 2014 one week post op
Chelly replied to zebh11's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
This is all new for you. I agree that this is your head talking and not your new pouch. Stick with everything your surgeon and nutritionist have mapped out for you for your protein and water intake. It's very important for the healing process. The pain you're feeling is most likely gas and walking will help relieve it. You could also ask your surgeon if you can take Gas X strips to relieve the gas. Your pouch can't handle the foods that are on your mind. At a later date a few months from now you probably could tolerate a burger but not from a fast food place. Hot dogs are very hard to digest and are gassy. Please take it one stage at a time and you'll be fine. Once again following all the directions the surgeon and nutritionist have given you and you'll be fine. Good luck on your road to a healthier you. -
Finally got a date! June 23rd!
Chelly replied to Amour.de.lionne's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations on getting your date. Good luck with your surgery and this new adventure into a healthier you. -
For the first time ever since surgery I over ate at a restaurant and I'm in a lot of pain. Anyone have suggestions to relieve it.

I use the strips because I believe them to work faster.

Tera's Whey - Check this out!
Chelly replied to losingsoon's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I use Jay Robb Whey Protein Powder and it's really good. It comes in chocolate, vanilla, strawberry and something else which I can't remember. It's made with stevia. I purchase it off of Amazon but you can get it at Whole Foods, directly from the company or eBay. I also use Torani sugar free syrups in my shakes. They come in many, many flavors. I purchase directly from the company but you can also get them or World Market if you have one in your area, and Amazon. Torani is made with Splenda. Good luck in finding something you like. -
Another Puree Phase Question
Chelly replied to ArcusX's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree that you should be checked out by your surgeon's office. It's important to go on with each stage that you are put on but don't do it yet until you are checked out. The sooner the better. Good luck with what you are doing for yourself. -
Here's an idea, a thought and a question...
Chelly replied to Steviefan1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The mask could work for you. My surgeon has a card he gives patients to be able to order kids meals or a senior discount due to surgery. I carry that with me when we go out. Now onto getting medical alert necklace or bracelet just like a diabetic would wear. They are available from the same companies just put on there your info. Good luck with your surgery. -

Day five of surgery and my legs ache tonight. Is this typical?
Chelly replied to svandygr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are they swollen? Have you been walking several times a day to keep blood flowing properly? If the answer to the first question is yes and the answer to the second question is no then I would call your surgeons office first thing or go to the ER because it could be something worse. You should be getting in 64 fl. oz of water slowly through out the day if your not you could become dehydrated. Which again should be immediately checked into. Good luck and take care.
