    Anger issues post-op

Sometimes anger is a symptom of depression. Especially is it occurs because you are aggravated at everything.

    OMG October 2013 Post-ops

I had one incision site that remained sore for 1-1/2 weeks. Once I left the hospital and the morphine drip, I discovered that the Lortab did nothing for the incision pain that was almost like a deep bruise. Tylenol helped more for that. I asked why I got Tylenol in my IV in the hospital and they said it was for inflammation. Maybe that's why it helped with the incision site pain. Good Luck.

    OMG October 2013 Post-ops

I had surgery on October 15th and felt pretty good while in the hospital. I began walking for 15 minutes the afternoon after surgery and walked a lot in the hospital. I didn't have much issue with gas. I stayed overnight and went home by noon the day after. Morphine was great. And they also added anti-nausea med and acetaminophen in IV. Late afternoon of the day I went home, I felt nauseated and called the doc. Got a prescription for meds to handle that and for 2 days I only got a window of about 2 hours every eight that I didn't feel nauseated. I took Lortab for pain, but there really wasn't a lot of pain except for one of the upper right incisions. That incision continued to hurt deep, like a bruise, until late last week, 1-1/2 weeks after surgery. As long as I was sitting or lying flat I was okay. Since the pain wasn't relieved by the Lortab I stopped taking it 4 days after surgery. Beginning with day 4-6 after surgery, I got in at least 48 oz of fluids and 40 grams of Protein. Beginning day 7 to present, I am doing 64 oz of fluids and 60 - 80 grams of protein. All the significant amounts of protein are from Protein shakes and Isopure Zero Carb ready to drink. The pain in my side really lessened last Friday (1-1/2 weeks after surgery). I am very careful to only eat what is on my doc's list of foods and in the amount suggested. I've had absolutely NO food issues and no dumping. I'm having a BM about every day. I feel great and I've lost 30 lbs since October 1, which includes the 2 week liquid diet before surgery. Breath deep, don't get anxious, don’t eat too fast and follow your doc's orders. It's worth it.
  4. Mine is today, 3rd day after 10/15 surgery. I came home yesterday at 2:30 pm. As long as I was in the hospital, getting morphine, fluids, aceteminiphen drip, nausea shots and walking a lot I felt decent. I passed a lot of gas by burping and did walk about 3 - 4 times per day the day of the surgery and the day after. The nausea started last night. I got some meds for that and have to take it before I can take the Loratab. The nausea meds only give me about a 2 hour window without nausea to get some proteins in. I am drinking sips of water even when nauseous.

    Too sweet protein :(

I meant 1 pkg of decaffeinated INSTANT coffee.

    Too sweet protein :(

I also think the drinks are too sweet. I'm pre-surgery now, operation is October 15. I've been doing the following to help. I mix 1 pkg of decaffeinated coffee with 8 oz skim milk and 1 scoop Unjury Vanilla protein powder. I mix 1 heaping teaspoon unsweetened cocoa powder with 8 oz skim millk and 1 scoop Unjury Chocolate Splendor protein powder. I know the cocoa powder probably has a little caffeine just because it's chocolate. That's the only way I can drink them. As for other protein drinks, I like the Zero Carb Isopure RTD Coconut because it isn't sweet. It's almost clear and is made with coconut water. You have to like coconut, though.

    Any October surgeries out there...

I've been careful to ask for pain meds with Tylenol to kill toothache pain. The liquid diet isn't bothering me cause I can't chew anything anyway. What a time to have this since my Surgery is next Tuesday, 10/15.

    Any October surgeries out there...

My surgery is October 15 at 7:30 am. I have to be at the hospital at 5 am!!! Sunday, a tooth I got a root canal in 15 years ago starting hurting. By evening the pain was really bad. I used one of my husband's pain pills from a car wreck he had in July. Even that didn't control the pain. Went to dentist Monday and he referred me to Endodontist. That office x-rayed my tooth and determined I have a crack in my tooth and that it is infected around where the roots used to be. He prescribed better pain meds and a Z-pak to cut the infection. I go back tomorrow afternoon so he can extract the tooth and clean around it. Hopefully the tooth won't crumbled and can be reinserted. If not, I have to get a partial bridge or implant.

    Brachioplasty(Arm Lift)

Why are you having it before you reach your goal? Just curious.
  11. Are you getting 90 grams of protein per day? If you are only having one protein shake a day, maybe you should get some unflavored protein powder, like Unjury brand, and put some in your soup or soft food. Be careful not to make your soup or food too hot as it can change the consistency of the protein. I think it can't exceed 140 degrees F.

    Protein Shakes

I tried the Nectar Chocolate Truffle because I liked the name. Sounded like candy. It wasn't as good to me as Unjury Chocolate Splendor because the Nectar one was weak tasting. Course, I put a tsp of plain unsweetened cocoa power in the Unjury to make the chocolate flavor more intense. I like the Isopure Zero Carb RTD Coconut. You have to not think too much about the fact that it is clear and a little thicker than water. Outside of the consistency I liked the fact that the Coconut wasn't so sweet. A lot of the protein drinks are too sweet for me.

    Any October surgeries out there...

I have my pre-surgery Dr. appointment tomorrow and start my 2-week liquid diet Tuesday, 10/1. I've tried samples of a few protein drinks and so far I don't like the Syntrax Nectar drinks. I do like the Unjury powder drinks, Healthwise Fruit Drink powder in Pineapple and Isopure Zero Carb ready to drink ones. If you like coconut, the Isopure RTD coconut is good. Not too sweet. A lot of the powder drinks are too sweet for my taste. I do better with fruit based drinks. What protein drinks have you tried and liked or hated?

Cheryl_S asked abut good RNY books. I've read a few, but the most helpful for me is: The Emotional First Aid Kit: A Practical Guide to Life After Bariatric Surgery, Second Edition Cynthia Alexander (Author)

Hi Ladies! My surgery is scheduled for October 15. Glad to have found you so we can support each other. Why are you shaving, waxing, etc? Because you don't want the hospital to do it? Just curious.
