  1. Hi Green -- For me, it's milk products that cause outrageous gas. Not so noxious, well maybe the rest of my family would beg to differ, but just mass quantities. I think I'm heading toward lactose intolerance or something. Never had this problem pre-band. It's so weird.
  2. Congrats on the birth of baby Owen and welcome back, thread starter extraordinaire!!
  3. AWESOME, LAP!!!!!!!!!!! you certainly "can- can" and "are-are" getting it done! Keep us posted on the baby news.
  4. Yeah, baby! Sounds great. How about today? 7/7.
  5. :thumbup:ABSOLUTELY!!!!! I need the support and would love to see us both have fabuous lab results! 1
  6. Good point about the Niacin, Munchk. I'll stick with the exercise, no red meat and oats then re-test in 3 months. Surely, I can get everything in the normal range. (I know, your name's not Surely.) Hey Sidann and Deb; good to hear fom ya!
  7. WTG Dee on your loss!!!!!!!! Thanks for the reminder about oats! I forgot all about the benefit of Oats on Cholesterol and will be adding that to my Steel Cut to my grocery list. Here's a good recipe I found -- could probably substitute some Splenda to cut the carbs and freeze in 8 small containers to make it a quick morning fix. Crockpot Oatmeal Recipe 2 cups steel cut oats (not instant or rolled oats) 6-8 cups water, depending on how long the oatmeal will cook 1 tsp. cinnamon 1/2 cup brown sugar 1 tsp. vanilla 2 apples, peeled and diced 1 cup raisins 1 cup sliced bananas 1/2 cup chopped walnuts Spray crockpot with nonstick cooking spray. If you're planning to cook the oatmeal 8 hours or longer, use 8 cups of water. If you want to cook it less than 8 hours, use 6 cups of water. Put first seven ingredients (through raisins) in slow cooker and cook on low. Just before serving, Stir in bananas and walnuts. Sprinkle with additional brown sugar if desired. Serves 8. Per serving: 256 calories, 6 g fat, 0 mg cholesterol, 49 g carbohydrate, 4 g fiber, 4 g protein, 1% Vitamin A, 6% Vitamin C, 5% calcium, 8% iron My liver function was "normal" and my triglycerides were 113. I check a fasting blood sugar occasionally and it's usually around 90. I haven't though about getting kidney function done due to the protein intake, but I'm absolutely going to ask about that -- thanks for the heads up! Nicnac -- I'm so glad you're hanging out with us again!! Mal -- Did you mean my son? Or were you talking to someone else? No daughters here. But my boys are ok today. You know, in this house, it's a one day at a time thing! How are your's doing? Glad the headache is easing off Mini and your getting back to your old lovable self. It just keeps getting better from here on, chica.
  8. LA- Way to go on the swim program -- that's great! I think lunch with a band buddy is a great way to jump start things. I had a long post last night, but lost it when a power went out . Instead of re-creating the whole darn thing, let me just say I'm hoping everyone is feeling good, eating healthy and moving around. Woofay, I'm glad you're back. I missed you. Nurses or anyone who's interested or has ideas: I've already got my lab results, even though my physical isn't until next week. (I have my PCP do the orders early because I have a 45 minute commute to the lab and I try to combine trips. Of course, my insurance company only has a contract with certain labs IN ANOTHER TOWN. Don't get me started.) My results were good but not as stellar as I had hoped. Everything is good except my LDL 103 (0-99 normal) and my HDL 42 (40-60 normal), but they just need tweaking. My total cholesterol is 168, so my ratio would be 4:1. Anyway, I haven't taken my cholesterol medication in many, many months and I don't want to re-start just for a few points. I know I can get the HDL up by exercising more and the LDL down by cutting out all red meat. I'm taking Fish oil and Flax Oil now. I really don't want to add another pill or supplement if I don't have to (besides the two I've mentioned I take a multi, Calcium and biotin). I am off my anti-depressants for about a month and doing ok, more exercise and better quality sleep has made a huge difference there. But I'll be sure to start those back again if I start to slide, no doubt. I think I'm going to have him repeat the labs in 3 months and see if I can do better with my HDL/LDL. I want a HgbA1C done anyway -- I don't think I've ever had one; my fasting glucose is always normal. Any suggestions? Should I think about taking Niacin? Happy Sunday everyone! Back to work tommorrow.
  9. Welcome Tennessee! You're off to a amazing start. Glad we both found Dr. K.
  10. Down 2 pounds (one mid-wk, plus one today)! Dee, I'm down 9.1 from the start of challenge? No problems with the thread this morning. Maybe they've been working on the site? I'm going for my yearly physical on 7/14. I would love to be down an even 90 pounds by that date, but that's only 9 days away and that's a stretch. But I'm going to do my best. I'm hoping my lab work results are good. Happy Sunday, folks!
  11. Lookin' so good, ladies!! Thanks for posting this Dee!
  12. It has taken me forever to get to the end of this thread today -- I keep getting kicked back to the forum home page! I finally in desperation started about page 10 and inched my way up here. I sent in a technical problem email under the Contact Us link. If I don't post for a few days, know it's because I just can't get access to the end of the thread. Do ya think that we've overloading the LBT bandwidth with a 381 page thread or something?? Ha! or , more likely, I've got a technical problem on this end. Whichever, I hope to be re-joining you soon!
  13. Hey Mal (and LA and whoever is doing walk/run to 5K), Have you ever tried the Podrunner Intervals? There are free weekly downloads for first day to 5K. I haven't used them yet, but the music is supposed to change when you are to change from run to walk, walk to run, etc. Here's a link if you're interested. Podrunner: Intervals - Free Workout Music from dj steve boyett Right now I'm just walking with hubs and not running at all -- his dr's goal for him is to walk 2 miles/day, 5 days week so that's where things are. I'm still doing Spin though and trying to spend about 15 minutes/day climbing my stairs (I know that sounds weird, but it's a cheap stair master and very available on my 12 hour work days!). My goal was to do a 5k this fall, but I think that may be a realistic goal for next fall. So, just now, I signed up to so a 1-mile Fun Run for Autism on Oct.11 in Raleigh. I think that's doable from where I am now. I'm hoping to run a mile with ease (ha ha) by my surgery anniversary 9/19.
  14. Welcome Brasraweya, 9pdmnm5, and lotzasunshine! And a second welcome to Nicole. Denise -- Hugs to you and your sweet daughters. LA -- Insist on the gall bladder function test for sure! Sometimes the gall bladder can have "sludge" which can't be seen on the initial ultrasound (unlike the stones). Of course, insurance companies don't want to pay for surgery unless there's a stone. (Let's be real, insurance companies don't want to pay for anything if they can avoid it.) But if there's sludge, then maybe the function test will be positive. Lap -- Beautifully written; I am loving the fact that you're writing about this journey. Were we at some of the same family gatherings? That "girl, you haven't missed a meal" line said with a southern slant has come my way several times. Lifesaver -- 10 pounds in 5 weeks is awesome! Take care of those tootsies (my mom's word for feet). Deb -- Dr. K told me the same story about the French Fry girl! And, your parents sound like wonderful people. Mal -- Get a tatoo of Buster!!! Dee -- How are you? I'm sure you're somewhere working, working, working. Mini -- How's "The Banded Life, Day 3" going? Munchk -- Hope you get the day off today and can spend it playing with your puppies! Brandy -- What's up with you these days? I'm sure it's baseball, baseball, baseball. Happy 4th people!
  15. Yay, Mini! Welcome to the other side! Welcome, Nicole! Glad you've found us here. FW: Thinking of you, your friend and your daughter. I'm so sorry about this tragedy. I can't even imagine. Lap: I can't waited to get the scoop on your PS! Go get 'em. A big kudos to you on your weight loss -- good job! Deb: How'd the phone consult go today? Sidann: I didn't have a last meal before surgery either. I was too afraid that Dr. K wouldn't like the way my liver looked and would refuse to do my surgery. That was one of the first things I asked him post-op -- how was my liver. I was liver obsessed. Mal & Dee : Details, please, on the matching tattoos that you got last night! You wild, wild women! Brandy: You sound (post?) like you're doing good -- I'm thinking the slight unfill and Prevacid has done the trick, yes? And a big ups to you and Denise for the 10's. I can only dream.... Hey, Lifesaver! Hope you're doing well. Hi Jill, how's it going? Marcy, How are you? Munchkin -- What's up? and how 'bout a shout out to the MIAs -- Woofay, Michelle, Taynuh, et al -- what's new??
  16. Good answer! Score one for the new man. He may just prove to be Dee-worthy. Did you request of photo of him?
  17. I think those are used to pick up a wash cloth and wash the hard to reach places?:confused2:
  18. Yeah, Denise! Rockin' those size 10s!! You'll be in the Daisy Dukes before you know it.
  19. Me, too!:smile2: I'd be on the next plane out, but I'm so broke these days I can't even pay attention. I'll be thinking of you all -- I'm spinning tonight, so that's something to look forward to!
  20. Yeah, FW! It'll soon be your day! Ya'll enjoy your dinner this evening! Good luck tomorrow, Mini!
  21. Dee -- I am so glad that the first guy went after his wallet when he did; otherwise, you may have invested some time in him before you found out he was an ASS. You dodged a bullet with that one, my dear. (But I must add that he is now next on my list to obtain an open can of redneck ass-whuppin' from yours truly. Hold me back, people, hold me back. ) Now as for the new gentleman, he sounds worthy of a photo and, if he plays his cards right and behaves, he may be worthy of your time. You only deserve the best, of course. Keep us posted. LA/Ador -- I don't know anything about a kidney cyst. Did they only see one? I've heard of polycystic kidneys before. Keep us posted on what the doc says. Denise -- Something about those firefighters... Maybe it's the way they stay buff by lifting weights at the station...maybe it's because they're so brave in the face of danger...maybe is the hot, sweat.....oh, sorry,is it just me or is it suddenly getting warm in here???????? Going to bed now. Nighty, nighty folks.
  22. Don't forget the camera at either gathering this month! This "wannabe there" needs my fix. Denise -- When a group of hunky firemen notice the change, you have arrived ... you are gorgeous! Own it, strut it, live it -- you deserve it!! Survived, actually, enjoyed my pop's birthday. Would you believe he even got on the back of my brother-in-law's bike (a 3-wheeled Gold Wing, but whatever) and rode around the block to celebrate his 91st? What a trip the man is. He was so proud. I helped him get on (several of us did) and held his hearing aide. Bless his heart. On a side note --- not one snide or underhanded remark was received -- what's gotten into my extended family these days?? Or maybe, what's gotten into me? Maybe I'm not as sensitive? Maybe, since I'm not as big as I was, I'm less of a easy target? Who knows.
  23. Don't believe them, Nicnak, they are ALWAYS 2 crazed wild women! I always laugh so hard my morning coffee shoots out my nose, everytime there's a back-and-forth conversation between the two. Add Muchkin in with them and it's a free for all. I have laughed so hard I've farted. BTW, I'm glad you're back to stay, Nicnak. This place makes both the good and the bad days, better. WTG LA/Ador!! Take your old stuff to a consignment and pick up some new threads for yourself while you're there! Congrats to your hubby, too! Denise, I'm sorry your friend said that to you. Maybe one day she'll get past the jealousy and realize you're still the same friend --just thin, not fat -- and the friend part is what should matter most to her. Maybe your success will inspire her to do something to improve herself. Maybe not -- that's her deal. Either way, KNOW that you're doing an awesome job and we're thrilled with your success. You've worked hard to get where you are and have inspired alot of folks (like me!) to keep working at it. You deserve some new shorts -- go get 'em! Lap, I'm glad your man's doing ok. The way you write about it cracks me up! Well, friends, I'm off to spend the day with extended family at my Dad's 91st birthday celebration. You know how these events make me nervous. But I made it through father's day without a hitch and I'll make it through this, too. Happy Sunday, banditos!
  24. Lap, Amazing. It is so cool to see your month-by-month transformation!!! Your weight loss is bringing your radiant beauty out for the world to see. Thanks for sharing.
  25. @ Mal -- I absolutely think that we should blame "office TOM" for any weight gain!@ Dee -- I know those "working girl" scrubs all too well. My sexiest ones had jelly Beans printed on them ~~ and probably some in the pockets, too, back then . Congrats you bunch of losers!!!!!!!!!! You know who you are! Ami -- Belly dancing, SO COOL! I hope the Motrin does the trick -- keep us posted. SidAnn -- One word = AWESOME! LA -- Thanks for the Protein calorie list -- another great find! Mini -- Pack your bags, woman! It's almost time! 5 weeks left!! I think I'm down a total of 7 (help me with my math Dee), which means I've got to get my fanny perpendicular and crank it up to get 13 off in 5 weeks. Let's go peeps! We can do this!!
