Ah, Dee, you make me blush! Thank you for your very kind words and for inspiring me every day. Being your bench mate is quite the honor. (I'm working on the elbowing but like mama said..this "child just cain't keep to 'erself." ) I am at 201 this morning. Down only .8 ! Feeling desperate for my Memorial Day Goal, but pushing the negative thoughts away that have always sabotaged me. The rest of this week is about water, protein, watching the carbs and moving! I know I am PMSing and bloated, so I've got to avoid the salt that I am craving and maybe I'll release the 2 pounds that I'm holding on to. Everbody please take a second to check in -- I worry about you if you don't post in awhile. I'm not naming names, but you know who you are. Now don't make me come back there......... -

Me? Are you sure you mean me? Gee, "amazingly great"? I don't think anybody's said anything remotely that nice about me in a long, long time. Thanks, Mal!!! Tips? Well, I'd say the biggest plus for me is coming here to stay in touch and feeling like I've got some traveling companions on this life journey. Another is not allowing myself to be negative about everything I do the way that I have been in the past. (Forgiving myself has been big for me!) And lastly, I keep reminding myself that I've made a huge financial investment in my health with this band and I am determined not to have wasted this $$!! Other than that I'm constantly stealing ideas from you guys and trying to make them work for me. Everyone have a good night and a healthy tomorrow with good choices all around! -

Hey Mal -- Poor Chris! I hope he's doing ok. I know what you mean about starting anew after a weekend of eating at gatherings. I did terrribly myself -- but kept the portion size in check, only a tblspoon each (like that helped or something!). But just in the interest of coming totally clean with it -- I had BBQ (pit-cooked pork, of course), slaw, potato salad, hush puppies (just one), banana pudding, and a sliver of pound cake. With sweet tea. Yep, with sweet tea. No roll for this girl, though; I had to do something to preserve my dignity. I went to a memorial service with a dinner on the grounds afterwards, so I HAD to eat. It is so totally a Southern thing. Someone passes, we cook, we eat. Someone is born, we cook, we eat. BUT, I walked today and am going to make a fabulous chicken salad for lunch! Turning a new page to a new day. What kind of walking shoes do you like? What about shoes for working out? I am a total exercise newbie, so excuse my ignorance, but I have one pair of New Balance that I wear for whatever and I'm getting ready to replace. -

Hi Sidney! I'm glad to hear that the surgery went well! You'll notice that the swelling will improve day by day. Since you're on the full liquids, you may want to try some yogurt to relieve the diarrhea and allow you to complete the full course of antibiotics. Antibiotics kill not only harmful bacteria; they also kill the healthy ones in the intestines that we need for digestion and, thus, we end up with diarrhea. The live cultures in yogurt can help replenish the intestines with helpful bacteria and treat the diarrhea. Dr. K sent me home with a script for Phenergan for nausea/vomiting; isn't he still doing that? -- I had my surgery back in Sept, so maybe not. Keep us posted on how you're doing and Welcome to BAND LAND, bandito!! -

Ouch on the cost of living up there! I love when you post about Nome life -- the whole idea fascinates me, even though I'd never be able to afford it and my thin skin wouldn't allow it! While we were having lunch today at a restaurant, my son's Kids Menu had the ususal puzzles, coloring stuff and some "fun food facts" -- one being that people who live where you do keep food in refrigerators to keep it from freezing in winter. I thought that it was probably so you wouldn't have to freeze your hiney while you you went outside to retrieve dinner, otherwise, why pay the utility bill?:woot: -

You all look wonderful ladies!!! I look forward to the RR pic every month -- thanks for sharing, Dee, and have a good day at work. Lap -- way to go on joining the gym!! Marcy -- forget the chicks, buy a dairy cow for the green house this year! Brandy -- where are you? Happy Friday, banditos, wherever you are this weekend I'm wishing you sunny skies and beautiful weather -- let's get out and move this weekend! -

Welcome to the journey, new folks! LA -- ice cream is a problem food for me too! Write the past off and let it go, jump back on the band wagon. Ok, RR folks. It is 2:40 pm EST and there are no pictures posted yet. What gives??? I want to see your cheekbones, dearies! Today my scale said 201.8. Tomorrow I am going for a pedicure because I want my feet to look presentable when (IN THE VERY NEAR FUTURE!) I post a picture of my scale showing 199 with my fat Barney Rubble feet plopped on either side. Ah, onederland -- so close I can taste it. I just may make my Memorial Day goal! Cheers, banditos!! -

My apnea has improved tremendously! I have been sleeping without my CPAP recently and am feeling good/rested. Husband says my snoring has really decreased dramatically. I have my annual physical scheduled for July and I can't wait to get my lab results to see how my cholesterol, triglycerides are. -

Hey Mini -- Love the name, by the way -- I have (had?) high cholesterol, PCOS, sleep apnea, depression. He operated on me, no problem, and I had a very easy recovery. No worries -- he'll tell you right off the bat what he will/won't do. -

Brandy, -Step away from the soda, cookies, cheetos, etc. -Take a deep breath. -Go back to page 270 and read what Dee wrote about what to eat and how to eat it. -Tommorow is a brand new day and a brand new start. Forget what happened today. Think about all the success you've had so far -- YOU are the exercise queen, remember? YOU have come so far and done so well -- there are only healthy days ahead!! Hang in there; better choices will be made tomorrow-- we are going to get to goal, my friend!!!!! -
Hi, Dr. K did my surgery 9/07 and required no pre-op testing for me. He had access to my 6/07 yearly physical exam records and did his own pre-op assessment. Based on those 2 assessments, he didn't require any additional testing. I think any testing that is done is requested on an indiviual basis as needed. Good luck on your journey!

Good to hear from you Michelle and so glad about your happiness ~~ you deserve it! Good Luck Sidann -- can't wait to hear your banding adventure! I just got back from my walk and I feel great -- too bad I only walked for about 40 minutes today -- I was the only one on the trail and a strange dog came up, so I left. I absolutely adore dogs, but am not willing to take a chance around one I don't know. Why do people let their dogs roam?? (There's a reason for leash laws people! Just do it! ) We have a rabies problem in this area and it breaks my heart the way that people allow dogs and cats to repeatedly breed and then ignore their needs. Ok, I'm getting off my soap box. Sorry for the diversion there. I can't wait to see the Red Robin pictures!!! -

Hi B.. and welcome! I, like you, was self-pay and did lots of research. Traveled from NC to CO for Dr. K to do my surgery and have absolutely no regrets. I suggest you look back over the 278+ pages of this thread and you'll find a variety of Dr. K banding tales for your reading pleasure! Again, welcome, to the Dr. K thread where you'll find some icredible people (if I do say so myself!) to support you through your journey. -

Bookholder -- You look AMAZING!!!!! LA -- Laps in the pool are great exercise!; I'd love to have a back yard pool. I've heard that walking in the pool is supposed to be great for the legs, too. Lifesaver -- WOW! Lots of good stuff happening in your life! Congrats on the job, the date and ONEDERLAND! Taynuh -- I've always considered you my band sister since we are both virtually the same in terms of when we were banded, progress and goals. Onederland is so near, but it is taking so long to get there. I feel ya. As far as exercise --- I'm loving my morning walks, but I know you said you hate walking. How about a Spin class or water aerobics? Many Y's have one and have child care available. How about an exercise DVD at home?-- yoga or Pilates? Maybe a mommy-n-me class -- dance or Tae Kwon Do or something? -- the little man is probably too young for that, of course, but your daughter would probably love it! Maybe think about getting a big wagon or double stroller for the kiddos and pulling/pushing them around with you on walks -- man that would be a great workout!! Wish I had a magic wand, friend, and you and I would already be at goal without all this!! Happy Saturday and happy mother's day! -

Hi Aviatrix, Wow -- I'm sorry that you had such a terrible experience! I read your first post in the General Support thread and my heart goes out to you -- sounds as if you've had a very, very difficult journey with your band all the way around for the last 3 years (dead surgeon, unsupportive PCP, little weight loss, overfills, reflux, nausea, sleep problems, etc.) Maybe it's time to ask for a referral to a GI specialist/radiologist to do a series of GI studies to determine exactly what's up with your band?? Maybe it is slipped (God forbid!) and a routine fill is just not going to be the answer? Bless your heart! If Dr. K isn't a good fit for you, I'd say try one of the other LB surgeons in the Denver area (I'm concluding you're local, sorry if your not), give them your history, and get a referral for some GI testing to see exactly what you're working with here. I hope this all gets worked out for you -- you've been through so much and you deserve to get healthy like everyone else on this journey. I'm a nurse and I had a very positive experience all around with Dr. K and would go back to him in a heart beat, but everyone has different needs, It sounds to me as if you need more than a fill. Hang in there and don't give up! -

Never could keep my hands to myself. Almost failed kindergarten because of it. At least I remembered to wear my deodorant today, so the bench may be getting crowded but it's not smelly. (Love ya, Dee! you know it!) (((((((((((Mal))))))))))))) where ya been?? I've been thinking of you! -

Woofay! Good to hear from you -- I've been thinking of you. Lucky you with the summer off to enjoy with your boys -- I keep thinking of that old Alice Cooper song (ok, I'm really dating myself here) --school's out for summer..school's out forever... Speaking of songs, what is everyone's favorite exercise tune? I'm looking for some new ones with a good brisk walking pace. I use Folgelberg's Netherlands for my warmup and I'm pretty dedicated to that one, but the rest is open for new suggestions. I like any kind of music -- right now I've got from Lauryn Hill to AC/DC on my MP3, so I'm open to broaden my horizons. Any suggestions? Who are you listening to? -

Funny you should mention this -- in my efforts to find SOMETHING to give me batwing coverage in the pool I've been looking at the rashguard tee shirts like the surfers wear. I like the idea of the cycling shorts -- I've got some around here somewhere that were my sons but they've got this seat padding that would probably get water logged and I'd be pulled under. The thigh support would be awesome though. Kudos to you for gettin in the pool, Dee, no matter what you're wearing whether your birthday suit or full armour. I have got to get back in the water -- I am paying for a Y membership anyway and it is so against my frugal nature to pay for something and not use it. -
