    Dark/thick skin

Hello, I went to Livestrong.com they have a lot of information on dark skin conditions mostly related to obesity with is related to diabetes. I am going to look into this as well. To the first person that responded to your post, thank you. Dark skin on the neck is usually a result of something known as acanthosis nigricans. It's characterized by the National Institutes of Health as a skin condition that causes hyperpigmentation along the folds and creases of your body. The hyperpigmentation is usually accompanied by an abnormal thickening of the skin. Most people affected by this condition have an increased level of insulin within the body, as would be seen in diabetes, polycystic ovary syndrome and obesity. Want to look fantastic? This is typically seen in conjunction with obesity or resulting from type 2 diabetes or other conditions affecting insulin levels. Some medications cause the condition as a side effect, including those that regulate hormone or cholesterol levels and systemic corticosteroids, notes the New Zealand Dermatological Society, or NZDS. In some cases, according to the Cleveland Clinic, the darkened skin results from other medical conditions such as Addison's disease or pituitary or thyroid disorders. Some cancers, particularly in the stomach, can cause dark skin, according to NZDS. In rare instances, acanthosis nigricans is hereditary, points out MayoClinic.com. These changes may appear anywhere on the body, but tend to show in skin creases and folds. Skin elsewhere on the body is usually similarly affected, particularly on the armpits or neck. It is not uncommon for the lips, soles of the feet or palms of the hands to be affected as well, according to MedlinePlus. In some instances, darkened skin itches, and, if left unchecked, it often spreads slowly, says MayoClinic.com. Skin tags or lesions are sometimes seen on affected areas, too, reports NZDS. oh my god.

I swear yesterday, I heard a TV ad saying something like "If you are a love had died or gotten diagnosed with liver disease please called this number". The FDA has a system in place to check for recalls and drug related illnesses and diseases. Not mean to scare you any further but it is a great resource.

    Surgery scheduled but nervous

You will be just fine, because you have been down this road before. You are moving closer to your dreams each and everyday. This is the first part of two I'm assuming. You got this one already in the bag girlfriend. The hernia is nothing for these doctors they see it all the time and this second for them. Believe and trust in God first he'll take good care of you. Secondly, believe and trust in your decision to be pro-active in your health, you are doing the right thing. And lastly, believe and trust that God is in charge, guiding their hands; doctors are not alone because we are praying to God on your behalf and we know that he make no mistakes. I/We are here for you when you need to talk or express yourself. Good Luck pumkin73

Is there anyone out there that think they are too small.

DLCoggin, thanks for the inspirational message and I totally agree with you guys. I can't help but be a little nervous about the unknown. I to want to be on the other side living the dream.
  14. Hi just curious, I was wondering is there anyone out there that think they are too small since surgery. Are you happy with where you are 1 or 2yrs out. I am a pre-op without a date at this point hopefully this will change soon. I actually don't have a whole lot of weight to loose, 60-80lbs. I worry that I may get too small. Is there anyone with that problem or knowledge of someone in that position. I need to get the weight off for health reason and have tried for quite sometime now. I am gaining new co-morbidities every few months it seems. I have five as I speak along with other things such as joints and incontinence problems.

I need to learn all I can about the RNY quickly

I went for my first appt with new providers and I am so happy with them and decided to switch. The Nut treated as if I was brand new walking through the door for the first time with no knowledge of WLS. She treated me with respect and went over things from start to finish. I picked a doctor today, I am so excited. I was tild that I would probably need one more visit because I have lost 5lbs. I am at 223 and the liquid prep would take care of the additional pounds. Doing great and feeling great. Next appt is October 15. Pre- Authorization takes about 2days to 2weeks.

Initial Consultation Tomorrow, 4 hour visit?

Don't worry it will be fine. I agree with lisalisalisa. They will have list of things to go over with you and labs. It can be overwhelming there is a lot of information maybe bring someone with you if you can.
  19. I DON'T WANT TO BE REFERRED TO AS "MORBIDLY OBESE" EVER AGAIN. Better health. I am looking forward to loosing the HBP meds and hopefully it will help with my kidney disease. And get my sexy back.

If it's not one thing it's another!

Its okay the rant. That would make you throw up you hands. I am so sorry. I can imagine how you must feel. There has to be a bright side to all of this. It must be an emergency for the Doc to take so much time off. Good Luck.

I need to learn all I can about the RNY quickly

Thanks for responding mgarrett1311; my issues are now resolved.I changed clinics. I am comfortable with the RNY now. I didn't want my system changed for fear of injury or more damage with my IBS. It was hard to swallow after my first meeting with the team. I only received the information if I asked questions they basically gave me no dialogue. I would never recommend them, it was the surgeons it was the team. You only see the surgeon the visit before the surgery. Not coooool. Might work for some but not me. I was warned that the surgeons are busy and they had done hundreds of procedures. It is something that can be taken care of on the table. No, no I want talk with them prior to gain understanding of who I am working with. My hernia is a large one I have been told. The new surgeon said it may require an additional surgery, glad I went elsewhere. I would have hated to find this out after I woke up that I need another surgery or should have done the open procedure. Thanks.

I need to learn all I can about the RNY quickly

This is really sad news. I am glad that you are being pro active in your care. I will be calling another hospital tomorrow for another provider also. I like the doctors there but not their staff. I hate to meet you under these conditions; but it is nice to meet you and have someone going through similar issues maybe we can share our experiences and help each other. There are good ppl on these threads with a wealth of information. Please keep in touch and let me know how things turn out.
