    September Post Ops!

I will check in... Had surgery Sept. 6th, that puts me a little shy of 2 weeks post op. feeling pretty good, pain is almost gone... almost. I still get a reminder belly stab pain under my incisions if I move to fast or bend too far, but it's getting better every day. Still can't sleep on my side... But hopefully soon, then I will sleep more restfully. Looking forward to progressing from the shakes & soft stuff stage to a bit more solid stuff. I see the NUT on Friday, so I am hopeful she will move me along. GERD gone, Diabetes gone, and 16 pounds gone so far... Feeling good!
  3. Made the protein pumpkin pudding tonight... Awesome! Thanks for posting!

    Anyone from New Hampshire?

It went very well. The surgeon and the hospital were top notch. Surgery itself was smooth sailing. Recovery... at one week out now pain is pretty much gone, eleven more pounds are gone, and diabetes is gone! An awesome bonus. The program at PRH is really phenomenal... Getting protein is is really easy, I found that using unjury and mixing it with skim milk, makes an 8 oz shake that has 29 g of protein... 2 of those and the requirement is about met. I'll also usually have a nectar lemon tea... 23 more grams protein, and replaces a plain water.

    Anti-inflammatory

That liquid tylenol is the greatest! Funny thing, the morphine did absolutely nothing for my pain (did make me sleepy and not care though)... But when they ran that little bottle of tylenol, pain dropped away! Tylenol! Who'd of thunk it?
  6. I used my celly all day when I was in for my stay. Even watched NFL Sunday Ticket on the ipad. It was not a problem at all... Kind nurses even charged my phone for me when it got drained and I couldnt get up and do it myself!
  7. I'm new here... Hello all! As stated in the subject, I was preparing for sleeve surgery scheduled for next week Friday. I have been advised by my surgeon to go with the Bypass... But it is still next week Friday!! I have a lot to learn in a few days! Any post op advice?...
  8. Forgot the best part... I am going home minus the Metformin! No more diabetic medication! What a bonus!
  9. Had my surgery Friday! Im now sitting up in the chair in my room, just finished a carnation instant breakfast... Waiting about an hour (maybe two) to be cleared to go home! Hopefully I'll be home before 1 oclock kickoffs!
  10. Done deal! Had surgery this morning , all went well... Have been sleeping on and off all day (which is actually a treat or me). No nausea to speak of... Pain earlier on, morphine was not very effective... But of all things- Tylenol did he trick ! Switched to Tordol late this afternoon, and feeling good. Of course i have mot tried getting up yet, so we will see if that holds true when I got for a walk about an hour from now. Overall... Better than I expected to feel so early on, I hope it keeps up this way! Thanks again all for your good words and advice!

    big day tomorrow

Good luck tomorrow!! I go Friday... see you on the losers bench!
  12. Great story! I have lost the majority of my pre-op weight after having a similar revelation. At my highest wieght I was 410 or so, after a year or so of cutting out the processed foods, adding smoothies (with the Vitamix!) and some juicing (Omega), I am currently 337... not bad. Having my RNY this Friday! I have come to really enjoy the smoothies and juicing... I know I will have to give it a break for a while, as I follow the post op diet religiously... but how long do you think it will be before I can handle the natural suger that would be in the juice? Would I have to wait a few months? years? I know everyone is different, but I'm just trying to get an idea of when I should be safe to "try"... I can only hope to have success such as yours! Thanks for sharing...
  13. Thanks for all of the comments and advice! It has been very helpful, and I have learned so much in the past (even) few days, that I am now not only comfortable with the swtich in plans, but very much looking forward to it. I had been "spooked" about doing the RNY in the past, thinking the worst of the malabsorbtion issue... now I have come to welcome malabsorbtion as a great aid in this journey and have learned to understand why it is important and even more desirable. The reason for the change in plans for me was that my pre-op upper endo revealed a touch of Barrett's, and to a lesser extent that I am a type II diabetic (although well controlled). The RNY would cure/elimnate gerd/acid reflux... which aggravates the Barrett's. This is the main reason for the switch, with no more acid reflux, the Barretts will not progress. As a nice bonus, my diabtetes may be eliminated once and for all as well... or at least made even easier to control. The sleeve, although a great procedure for the wieght loss/general health improvement tool... would not eliminate that reflux for me, in fact it may have increased it. SO.. a no brainer. I just needed to become comfortable with the idea of RNY, after preparing for the sleeve for the past 9 months! This place, and you good people have helped me to do that!! Friday is go time! Thanks again to everyone!
  14. Thanks for all of the advice! I'm sure I will be back asking for some more after the deal is done (a week from today!). It's great to have a place to ask questions and have good people willing to share their experience... Thanks again!
