External Psychological Reactions To Bariatric Surgery Patients
ranchbrat replied to Lori Nevins LCSW's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
I would like to add to this, I wish the medical community not just our WLS surgeon but other doctors, understood that as a patient we cannot have NSAIDS, anything that is going to reduce or relieve inflammation in our bodies such as all cortisone shots due to the fact that we could develop ulcers. My surgeon said absolutely no on anything that could damage our knew stomachs. I have found that all relationsips change. My immediate family is supportive, my mom and sisters still don't get it, so I always take my own food and then they ask why and how my weightloss is going. For my mom she is all about the number of pounds I have lost, she is actually a downer unfortunately in her eyes I will never be pretty enough or thin enough, she even suggested that I start wearing face makeup with a blush!! Because she thinks that I look pale lol and in other words not pretty enough. I look at food differently and not place myself in situations where there is going to be bbq's or drinking. I can eat that stuff, but its that stuff that got me where I was before I had WLS. Sorry I probably got alittle off topic -
This happened to me as well, I had my GB in Sept2013. I was so glad to of found this site and know that I wasnt the only person with these ouchies too. I also developed pancreatitis too, not sure if that is related or not. And I have acid reflux all the time if I don't take Prilosec...its so scarey and horrible feeling.

I am 11 months post op, for along time I did only chewable Vitamins from Celebrate, then I got brave and did a bottle of prenatals and then went back to the petite vitamins from Centrum and I am now deficiant in some of my vitamins. So I am guessing the chewables are the best for a gastric bypass patient, because we need those easily absorbable vitamins quicker than most. And capsules have to always be broken open and taken with food or Water. I hope this helps somewhat, its easy to try and find a cheaper Vitamin but in the end its not the results we hoped for unfortunately.

I tell ya, I willl wake up with an awful burning in my throat and the more I try to swallow the worse it gets. I am 9 months out and I was supposed to be taking an OTC Omeprazole its an acid reducer. So I got some at the store today and while it comes in capsule form I just break it open into some greek yogurt or apple sauce and take it that way.

What foods made you dump?
ranchbrat replied to Lthomas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Anything high in sugar, my diabetes didn't go away, so I have to be really careful on the total carbs. If its over 15 grams of total carbs like baked goods and ice creams are no no's I have to really watch sugar free baked goods and ice creams as it depends on what they are sweetened with. -
Hi Britt, Let me tell you,as I told my support group that We are big chrystal light drinkers in my home, and I always drank the lemonade, fruit punch and grape, However, since having my GP last September I cannot tolorate any sugar free drinks they are either too tart or too sweet even though they are sugar free...I just can't drink them blah Getting in enough Protein is a stickler for me too, because my taste buds just keep on changing. So I found at costco a 5 pound tub of Cookies and cream protein pwdr its EXCELLENT!! It kills two birds with one stone, I get in between 54 and 72 oz of my daily liquids plus all my Proteins as well. One scoop has 25 grams of 5 different proteins. You really have to watch the calories per scoop and the total carbs to not go over in calories. I hope that helps
-
I would like to say that taking a protein drink with you to the gym is a great idea, and also having a Quest bar as well. Once you start getting that feeling of having low bs you will want to take in the protein. It should help stabilize you and definately help you feel better. I know it does me.

Do you hope to get smaller than your goal? Why or why not?
ranchbrat replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was at my heavyest a size 17\18, then was got up to a 13/14 through out the years, by the time I had my gastric bypass in Sept 13 I was a size 13/14 I am now a size 7/8 in wranglers and a size 5/6 in a different brand jeans. I really don't want to get any smaller as I want to look healthy and not start to look gaunt. My doctor wants me to lose another 25 pounds, however I think that will be alittle too skinny for me. I have the tools now for what I need to do, to lose the weight and to keep on exercising a few days a week so that I don't bounce back to my unhealthy lifestyle that is in the past...I never want to go back there and hope nobody else does either. -
I get them really bad under my breasts too. Just hope they get better after surgery If its the same thing you are talking about its called cystic acne, they are taken care of a few ways with medications by mouth, however I am unable to take the meds so for now I get to suffer through them...so the answer to your question is for me they didn't get any better after gastric bypass.

I have found that people who don't like to wear bras, have never been properly fitted and therefore either wear the wrong size band and cup size which plays a big role in how comfortable the bra is to you or they opt for a cheaper made bra in the size they think they are and the bra doesn't fit correctly.

Rating protein powders
ranchbrat replied to Oregondaisy's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I go to Costco and buy the Muscle Pharm Combat Protein Pwdr, in the Cookies and Cream Flavor its awesome with water otherwise it gets way to sweet for me. It has 25 grams of protein and 5 Total Carbohydrates and 140 calories per one scoop. So mixing a scoop and a half with 18oz of water 3x a day is a great way to get your protein and water in at the same time. -
I went from a C cup to a B cup and stayed with VS, because their bras feel great.
-
If you want a Pop Tart then have one, however you will probably feel like crap after and want to get sick to your tummy. It has something to do with the sugar you just want to get it back out of your system...its called the dumping syndrome

Thank you everyone for your encouraging words

I wished my diabetes had gone away, I take less insulin but it stayed with me unfortunately. I didn't start getting heavy until after my first child was born, however I was always under 200 pounds. Im in the process of digging out where the gult is stemming from. I find that eating salty stuff I blow up, such as low fat crackers, or anything with added sodium. Good luck to you and thank you for your comment
-
Thank you Sillyolme, for responding. I will have to check out the "the losing friends chat forum". When I got married and had my 3 kids, the weight crept and crept along. My mom all in my highschool years had me on every diet that came out and I was probably a 32" waist I wasn't heavy but in her eyes I was. I developed Type 2 and control it with insulin and exercise my diabetes has not gone away. However I take alot less than I used to and maybe someday it will all just go away and no more shots for me.Good luck with your surgery and stay in touch

I just found out that my iron is low, my Dr. put me on liquid iron that tastes disgusting. I took it with some applesauce and it automatically gave me a bellyache. I was taking 30 mg of the celebrate iron tablets but maybe I need to increase it to 60mg. Does anyone else have this kind of iron issues?

All WLS Supplements Are Just Too sweet
ranchbrat replied to SnowDaisy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went through this phase as well, even Crystal Light was either too sweet or way to sour. Same goes for creamers for my coffee, I had to switch to decaf because the regular coffee soured my stomach. Im finding that its not getting any easier to find a Protein shake that is not sweet enough, most have that after taste of stevia ick! and I am 3 months post op. Did anyone else have these changes? -
Besides weight loss, what has been the biggest benefit since getting surgery?
ranchbrat replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Aside from taking 30 units of lantus I'm down to 10. My diabetes is not gone but it is better than it was. -
Always check your Total Carbs. Sugar may say 5 grams but it is not total carbs

What Was Your Starting Weight?
ranchbrat replied to Mid West's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I saw the nutritionist for 6 consecutive months, and we have nutrition classes as well as support classes here ...so I will go to the support when I am able too. The next one coming up if a few days after I have neck surgery in about 3 weeks so that will have to wait. -
What Was Your Starting Weight?
ranchbrat replied to Mid West's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Kiwiladydee, I was denied at first, but I had done all of what was required to have the surgery and I also had Diabetes Type 2. I was devistated so I appealed it and was approved within 30 days. So yes my insurance paid for it.
